The Aim-54's were never going to be good in a fight where both parties are low and are expecting one another in an isolated 1v1. However, I can see them being very sneaky in a dynamic game where you're not sure where a missile might come from or if anyone is even near you. High-altitude shots would go forever concerning distance.

War Thunder should create a new gamemode, that focuses more on modern combined arms.
Runways are the controll points. Ground and Air units spawn on these Runways. You can bomb and damage them, and aircraft wont be able to spawn on them.
Runways can be destroyed, (decapped), and must be repaired to take over (captured).
Aircraft are also able to scout enemy vehicles without shooting at them.
Tanks are able to scout enemy aircraft.
Objective is to protect your runway, while taking over the enemies. Whichever enemy has the least tickets, wins.
You first start out without any runways. Without runways, you are limited to only use ground units from your main base, which is indesctructible.
Once you capture runways, you can spawn in aircraft depending on your spawnpoints.
The distances are large between the runways. Barely enough for aircraft to reach.
GRound units from both sidescan spawn nearby destroyed runways to help fully capture them. Then ground units can be despawned with no penalty, and can go for aircraft.

that game mode is sim but no one really plays it.
In BVR, don't just throw all your missiles out like that to "lose weight". Get to a high enough speed, near M1.0, and launch one at 40nmi. Go ahead, maybe bring the throttles back and crank a bit to give your missile a bit of time (note that, in a crank, you still want your target on the TID to guide that missile in). Recommit at about 30nmi, if he's not dead by 28, launch again at 25nmi, crank, drop chaff (he's probably launched by now) and that's as far as real-life tactics can go. Normally, you wanna Fox 1- him at 13nmi but you can just launch another Phoenix ±3nmi that distance.
As far as BFM goes, the F-14 should outperform anything in the game. Period. Superior turn performance, climbing ability, low speed handling. All a MiG-23 can do is to hit the blower and bug out. Everybody else, just be a better pilot than the Tomcat guy. If the Tomcat guy knows how to fly, you'll die everytime unless there's like 3-4 guys on him.
This type of tactic only works in DCS. If you fly low enough any radar missile in-game will lose lock. Even if we launch at optimal speeds. Don't trust me. Try it in game. Fly super low on the deck in a line, and launch phoenix missiles or aim-7's. They will miss everytime.
@@AeroTurtle PD doesn't seem to lose lock against the ground, unless they're notching you.
I yet have to get a top-tier airplane. All tactics I know are from videos of DCS and real-life Tomcat guys. This technically also obliges me to trust you for anything regarding these aspects of the game.
Of course Phantom would lose.
It sucks as a Dogfighter. Loses to everything in game except the F-104.
War thunder plane models are inaccurate. But the F-4 Can win in a lot more dogfights then you think. Especially the F-4E with its Agile Eagle package.

In my experience, the F-14 has a better chance in the 1s circle while the mig 23 is better in the rate fight. When the F-14 tries to rate fight, it loses a lot more energy than the mig 23. This is the what I learned when dogfighting the F-14 against my Mig 23M and MLD but it may be different for other people
What speeds are you holding? Tomcat will either rate extremely well or extremely poorly depending on how fast you're going. Min-radius turn =/= max-rate speed
Tbh you can rate pretty fucking good in a F14 especially if you use manual wing sweep and pull the wings forward

And 300k is just a small amount if youre talking about US budget

I reeeally hope, gaijin reworks the F4EJ-kai's hud soon... it looks god awful compared to other huds ingame.
