Millions Of People Still Live In The Soviet Union 😱

  • In 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed. But why then do some Russian people live with a USSR passport and do not recognize the Russian Federation as legitimate? In my video, I talk about these people. "Citizens of the USSR" is a movement that does not have a pronounced center and a single name. Thousands of people across the country are united by the belief that the Soviet Union has not yet collapsed. They do not recognize the state in which they live, deny the existence of the coronavirus, do not pay taxes, and arrange scandals in public institutions…

The sovereign citizens in the USA are in the same dilemma. They believe they are forced to trade "Federal Reserve Notes" (FRN), aka dollars against their will, when the Constitutionally recognized money is gold and silver coin. Since these coins have not been in wide circulation since 1964/1970, and the paper dollar effectively went off the gold standard in 1971, the sovereign citizens have been denied the use of legal money.

OMG! I never considered that many Russian citizens don't believe the USSR has ceased to exist. It's as if as a southerner born and raised in Tennessee, I believed that the Confederate States of America still exists, and that the CSA is simply an country that's been occupied by the Damned Yankees since 1865. I've heard that the older generation in Russia wished the old system still existed, but never that they actually rejected the undeniable fact that it disappeared like smoke in 1991.

You're missing two important things. First of all, these people were young in the USSR and people often consider such periods as the golden age when everything was so much better.
Secondly, these people are likely relatively poor and don't feel accomplished in modern Russia, whereas in the USSR they at least could be proud of living in a great superpower no matter how infamous.

By their logic i can say that the USSR is also an illegal state because the 1917 OCTOBER revolution was an illegal revolution, and that the only legal government is the provisional government of February 1917, since the February revolution was organized by the people, thus technically making it legal.

    • @selohcin

Well, if I have to compare this to something in Denmark 🇩🇰, it might be the hippie-experiment free city of "Christiania" in Copenhagen. It started in 1971 on the area of an old military barrack, and soon turned into an alternative mini-society with own institutions, cultural offers, own money. And an identity as "non-EU territory". Kind of an unofficial "micro-state" inside our capital, but in recent years, the place has been "normalized". It has also become a tourist attraction in time. Some day, when I get bored, maybe I should make my own viking nation 🙂 - our country is so old, so you would have to go back to that period to find a real alternative "nation" on this territory.

If you believe that misery loves company, then the Soviet Union was the perfect system for sharing misery with your fellow comrades. Except for the party bosses, most of the population was mostly equally poor, but there were certain basic needs taken care of, such as public housing and old age pensions. But for example, being guaranteed 10 square meters (90 square feet) of housing per person might qualify as "shelter" by Maslow's definition, it's hardly living large. It's also not living homeless on the streets. And maybe you had to stand in a line to get bread, but you had bread to eat.
Meanwhile today in Russia you might have to deal with oligarchs and the крыша Mafia, but you can walk into a bread store and have a selection of loafs to buy at almost any time. So some people prefer the "nanny state" that they grew up with, and some people prefer the meritocracy that they grew up with.

We have them in America too. They are called the Sovereign Citizen Movement. They claim changes in law in 1870s mean the United States is no longer real, they make their own documents. Some people make money off the conspiracy theory. Just like Nasty describes going on in Russia.

Why does this sound so much like the Reichsbürger movement in Germany. However, the Reichsbürgers are very popular amongst the Russian regime. Lavrov even met one of the leading figures of that group, Ralph T. Niemeyer, several times, who considers himself to be exile chancellor of Germany.

America has a similar group of knot heads, they call themselves “sovereign citizens “. They refuse to get a drivers license, license plates on car, say they are not US citizens, in extreme cases make their own money etc. a real pain in the ass I’ve met a few of them. They usually get arrested and sometimes end up in prison. Looking lovely as always BTW.

Because of the cyrillic script, its weird,in Russia you say SSSR,which is CCCP,and in west we say USSR.Which would really be YCCP!Its maddening.I used to know it means something Soyuz Soviet Socialist Republik or something?(In Russian of course)

    • @jscotthamilton5809
      @jscotthamilton5809 5 місяців тому

Soyuz Sovietskikh Socialesticheskikh Respublik - Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Sorry for the butchered transliteration, but yeah, Russian "C" is English "S", and Russian "P" is English "R". While the dominant political party was called Communist, the federated union of republics was called Socialist.

Union of Socialist Soviet Republics? Soviet = “council”. They pretended to have democratic councils everywhere, hence the name.
