@@troybilbrey A fellow crew chief and buddy of mine LZ was on 539 when it crashed in the Azores in 1984. Fast forward a few years, when it came home from depot I blocked it into parking. If I remember right it had 0946 on the nose and 0539 on the tail when it came home and Frankenherk on the front of the forms binder... Thank you for your service as well...

I salute this young Airman. I was a C130 Crew Chief for the USAF, Lockheed Arabia, Southern Air Transport. The video does not represent the hard work she performed, and the dedication it takes, to deserve the recognition she is receiving.

Best of wishes to you Jennifer. I was a Vietnam draftee (U.S. Army), in the Army National Guard and Army Reserves. I received a commission from the New Mexico ARNG Academy and left the service as a Cpt. (P) I take much pride in saying that I was a citizen soldier (term applies to all branches). Thank you for your service to our country as an AF Reservist. You are appreciated! Good luck to you in both of your careers!!

I was in a crew chief billet for 6 months at Hickam AFB in the ANG assigned to a KC-135 in 2000....it was taking a long time to get a school date and I felt in a way all they were were part order clerks on the flight line....I had a friend in CE and he told me about the 4 month building school so I switched and I did love the school, but in the end I should have stayed with the KC-135 and the ANG unit there.....but I am still blessed..........retired in 2017 as TSgt and got my retired id card and pension at 60.....

Good job. Crew Chief is a really tough job. One works like a dog and gets put away wet every day. If you stopped any where on base on the way home, there was always some office weenie there to chastise you for being greasy or dirty. The Colonels would come out once a quarter and tell us how wonderful we were and then provide beer in some hanger for those going off duty. I worked swings and did not use alcohol. I lost so much respect for these people. Crew chiefs really busted their butts.

@B Tenold I don't know where you were or for how long, but you obviously got pigeon holed into some kind of limited bs section; maybe you weren't deemed capable of anything more. I was a Crew Chief for 16 years and in that time I performed a sht load of "actual aircraft maintenance". APG, Crash Recovery/AR shop (which you probably don't know, includes everything from R&R to rigging of landing gear, flight controls, throttles, wheel and tire shop, lots of "actual"...) Then later job control and QA for 4 years then back to the flightline as a Line Chief/ Pro Super. Sounds like all you did was get your feelings hurt.

I was in the "REAL" Air Force, the reservists (weekend warriors) come in one weekend a month, we dont let them near the aircraft. No one in their right mind would let a 'part timer' work on their aircraft and actually fly on it. Reservists make rank crazy fast though... You could make E7 Master Sgt in about 3-4 years... pay, about $200 per month.

I’ve been on active duty for 6 years now and I have met with plenty of reservists who do their jobs really well. Just because you’re active duty doesn’t mean you’re automatically better than the ones who only come one weekend a month two weeks a year. Everyone gets the same training no matter what contract you sign. Besides, reservists can still get active duty orders anyway.
