90-SPEED CATRIKE 700 RACING TRIKE - Somebody just got an UPGRADE! Another Utah Trikes FAST Build

- You didn't think it could happen, but we did it. We made the Catrike 700 FASTER. Even with the stock configuration, the Catrike 700 is quick on the road. It's got slick tires, the right geometry for speed, and a huge 700c wheel in the back. Really the only way to make it any faster is to upgrade the gearing, and this 700 got just that. We threw on a Pinion 9-speed and widened the gear range 568%. It is FAST.

you guys are just the best at showing what these advanced bikes can do with a real rider like Lewis, who looks like he''s clean n sober for a week maybe while rockin his legit plastic leather jacket and drifting the trike in the snow...impressive.
Wowza....looks like quite a machine. Enjoy
Sweet!
Yea, and the trike too!
Is there a chance you could vid a comparison between the Pinion and Schlumph drives, pros/cons particularly?
What is the distance traveled on the 700 30 speed in the top gear per crank turn vs. The pinion in the 90th gear distance per crank revolution?
How does it compare to the ICE sprint x?
Hola, me gustaría saber como adquirir un proyecto tan fabuloso como este y traerlo a Colombia, cuál sería el costo?. Quiero uno
Could a person buy a built pinion gear box boom for an already rolling Catrike 700. And if so. How much is charge for custom boom with a 9 speed gear box?
Can you say it will get you over 30+ mph?
And where do these race?
When it comes to bike speed weight is everything. The pinion drive adds about 4 lbs. to the weight of the bike. How does that make it faster?
Gear ratio. Mechanical advantage may "outweigh" the weight... the difference in weight may not actually hurt speed too much but most of the time racing trikes probably would prefer a lighter setup ultimately. I doubt even half of this gearing is used for most riders.
I'm a fan of your mods and internally geared hubs like the Pinion and Rohloff, but on a racing trike?
Sure, a strong rider can only go as fast as his gearing.
I wonder if it's possible to build a custom Catrike 700 with Pinion 18-speed gearbox and Rohloff 14-speed Speedhub. I want Rohloff Speedhub at the rear wheel because I hate derailleurs with a passion...
What good would that be unless you have 90° hills to climb???
I don't see it on your website.
is this mod only for aluminum booms or can you do it on you carbon boom as well?.....
Great question! Currently, the only frame bridges available (the carrier mount that the Pinion bolts into) are aluminum or Chromoly steel. An aluminum bridge could be bonded to a carbon tube, but you'd probably be better off using an aluminum boom if your carbon frame would allow it.
Is it possibly to add the pinion gears to an expedition cat trike?
yes! the pinion is a front gear hub and it can go on any trike!
what is the trike with little wheels in the background?
If you are referring to the red trike, it is the Fat Tad CXS. www.utahtrikes.com/PROD-11619824.html
Can I modify an '07 Catrike Speed to run a 700c rear wheel?
We do make extensions, but a 700 wheel is too big for most Speeds. www.utahtrikes.com/PROD-11616085.html
From our page: "- We have had many users use this kit to put 700s on their Speeds, but due to variations over the years on the Speed model the 700 wheel may not fit. Don't ask us if it will allow you to put a 700 on your Speed because we do not know.
"
Damn nice beast
What's the achievable top speed?
Am I wrong to think that trike should be extremely good for long distance biking (as if hiking on the road)?
And lastly shouldn't there be some front glass /aerodynamic cover? I imagine air resistance at higher speeds should be quite high indeed
You should make light titanium folding models like the 559.
I own the 700 version.
Too many of speaker 👎 and too little of presented stuff.
Are you aware that using the parking brake as a drag brake is incredibly dangerous? It is very easy to lock up that back wheel at speed, and once it locks up the trike will go sideways and will tumble! Catrike advertises that brake as a PARKING BRAKE for good reason.
Thanks for the comment. At very high speeds a drag brake setup can be invaluable. Definitely don't want to lock up the rear wheel though. Learning how to use the brakes on your trike is the first thing any rider should master, whether they have only front brakes or also have a rear brake. Some riders insist on having a rear brake, which is why we make adapters to retrofit rear brakes on their trikes. Sounds like we need to make a video: "Rear Brake or Not?"
Of course there must be a technique for using it as a “drag brake”, but the weight, complexity and expense of a disc on the rear as a “parking brake” sounds ludicrous to anyone who remembers leather toe straps. (Cinched around the grip/brake lever)...
i use the parking brake on my hp velotechnik trikes on long descents. there are a couple in the area where i live at a 15% grade for more than a km in a residential area. i just make sure not to do all the braking with the park brake but try to mix it with the front discs.
needs a motor!!
We build plenty of trikes and quads with motors. Not every single one needs a motor. :)
I am surprised that trikes are still sold, not only they are crazy expensive, here in Quebec they absolutely did not catch on... I was a owner of a Trail for almost 10 years and I think I encounter 3 or 4 other trikes. I thought they would have got really popular but it did not at all... I am always amazed that a shop can live on selling trikes and that customer ask for custom mods that cost thousands of dollars on top of buying a not so comfortable trike after all...
It's all relative. People spend their money on what they like. We ship a lot of trikes to Canada, especially Catrike models.
Trikes dominate sales among recumbents in the states.
@@DanLimbach it's even less rider I've seen with recombent two wheelers... I thought it would have gain success here in Quebec but I guess money exchange rates make those toys unnarfodable for most riders who have interest in riding a trike...
@@Aleziss Some trikes arfodable and some ar not.... :-)
@@scottschultz9572 it depends on what you call afordable... here nothing really below 3000$...
Put some makeup on dawg!
😂 you are not get more speed, but more super slow speed, unless pinion is giving you a 75 tooth equivalent front gear...it is still only 10-11 tooth gear in the back!!!
Need to do a better job of showing what this bike has as far as speed goes. This did nothing. Be somewhat serious on this part. Let’s see what it’s got for real.
