Not sure how I landed on this video. But it’s great to see that there are so many resources available to kids these days. I came to US for my masters in 1997. And I used to write letters to professors (email was not easily available in India back then). If you are planning to live in either of the 2 countries long term then there is no competition between US and Canada. US is unmatched as far as opportunities are concerned. Me and most of my friends from college are multi millionaires earning really well. Some of my friends who chose Canada are doing well, but there is absolutely no comparison. There is. a reason why getting a GC takes 10-15 years vs 2-3 years for Canada. Back in the day I had applied and for Canadian PR which at the time we could get in 6-8 months... The opportunities were just not there. So think long term beyond your education. God bless!

What were the rules of h1b back then? It would definitely be easier compared to situation right now i guess.

    • @fnamelname7296
      @fnamelname7296 5 років тому +12

Well every generation has its own set of challenges. Back then, there was no lottery and you could apply to H1 anytime and get it because the quota was never exhausted. The challenge was to find a company that was willing to file H1 for you as most companies were not even aware of it. So you were more or less forced to file through desi consulting companies that used pay peanuts and you were stuck with them for years. The GC used to take 4-5 years but then you could only extend H1 once and if you did not get your GC within 6 years, you had to go back to India. If you changed employers there was no provision to capture priority date so your clock began all over. There was no PERM filing so you could be stuck in labor for years. There have been many positive changes over the years but then there has been a huge increase in the number of kids coming from India.

In fact if you have lived in the Silicon Valley for the last 15 years or more i would be surprised if you are not at least a millionaire!

I would choose Canada because it is easier to settle in Canada after completing your education. But in the USA it's not certain that if you will be able to live in the USA. One can even get Canadian citizenship if they continuously live in the country for 3 years or more. But that is not possible in the USA. Also, the USA is much more expensive in almost all aspects.
At first, I wanted to study in the USA because it is the DREAM country. But the road to achieving that dream is way too tough. that too without any certaininty of success. Everything changed so quickly. The policies, the government and the acceptance. After all this even today if I get a chance I would choose to study in the USA without giving it a second thought. Because again "THE USA IS THE DREAM COUNTRY".

I was very confused whether to go to Canada or USA, this video gave me a lot of insights. I will be choosing canada as my first priority and US will be my backup. PR life is definitely better than H1b life. Why I was leaning towards US is that my brother works in the US on a H1b so my family thinks we can live together to save money. But there are very low chances for his job and my college being in the same place. And I don't want to be stressed in the horrible US visa backlog, so I think canada would be best.

Both Pros and Cons of studying in canada and USA
    Usa
1)If you are from stem you can easily get jobs in michigan (automotive) atlanta(hvac) boston(robotics) there are loads out there
    2) Healthcare here is expensive
    3) you can get a permanent citizenship after 10 years in rare cases 8-9 after naturalization
Rents are high if Living in Bay or big apple select properly
    3) job market is competitive you got to be the best
    4) Good universities for stem categories and non stem too
    5) Diversification and new cultural experience
    6) good salary depending upon positions
    Canada
1)Cold Climate winters which are unbearable
    2) Can get permanent residency after 2 years
    3) Health care is cheap
    4) ontario and toronto best for engineering job prospects
    5) High taxes
    6) Meagre or low salary unless big positions
This is my view and opinion regarding both countries based on my research

DO your bachelor's. Get your PR (around 6 months after application outside of QC). THEN you pay Canadian resident fees. You just need to live for 3 months (or whatever the provincial law is) to establish residency in your province, if they have a different tuition fee for out of province.
We allow dual citizenship here, so you don't lose your original one unless THEY don't allow it.
Memorial in 2021, is around 11K$ for international students, 3400$ for out of province, and 2500$ for NF residents. Per 30 credits year (10 courses, at 5 per semester) for a Business BA.
It's basically only 500$ more expensive than Laval University in the mid-90s. WOW!!!

Starting as student, how many years will it take to be eligible to buy a house in USA so that you could own a place from your savings?
Also take into account the mature students. Does H1B visa allow your spouse to work in US? Compare the household income. What about child benefits and healthcare until you don't receive your green card? Don't forget green card processing time could take anywhere between a decade and three. Not everyone lands a job at Google and Apple so non-STEM graduates have lesser scope.

Overall, I'd choose the U.S. The U.S. has the world's best system of tertiary education followed by the U.K. One thing to consider is your prospects after university. Because of the massive difference in scale, there are many more opportunities in the U.S. Also, if you plan to work in the U.S., while Canadian degrees are acceptable, it is probably better to have a U.S. degree.

    Hi Harnoor,
That was a fantastic video! Much love and suport to you.
I see you're pretty active on replying to comments and queries people have, so I am giving it a shot here, hope you'd notice it and probably help me with few quick questions-
    1. I'm a History major (bachelor in History from Delhi University). I am not proud of this degree. I am a humanities student and maths is alien to me.
However I plan to switch my career path to an MBA now.
Do you think I have a chance in the US for an MBA? Or am I'm being a bit too greedy if I ask for the top 30 ivy's...?
    2. I have nobody in the US to call family. Pretty scared of the H1V thing you guys mentioned.
    3. Do you think it's a good idea for a person like me to even consider USA for an MBA. (MY field would be Supply Chain, Operations, HR).
    4. I'm come from a middle class family and I'm hardcore vegan. (If that affects something)
    5. If it's a green light for the above, could you please tell me some good cities/states where internships in those hotels and restaurants are available easily. Because unlike you, I won't get desk jobs anyway.
    6. Last point, so after completing my degree, would I have to go back to India if I don't make it to any jobs there? Or can I work as full time driver or something till the time I land a proper job? (This one is a big monster)
Those were few doubts I had. If it's not a lot of trouble kindly write me out. Thanks for the video!

Canada is way easier to get PR. USA is better if you are born in Canada. If you are born in India it takes longer because only 7% of applications are accepted from one country. Not many Canadians are applying for u.s. citizenship. But usa has lots of paths if you have money best path is eb5 which is the path I'm planning on taking with my business. Usa is definitely better than Canada but for Indians who just want quick easy pr rather than suffer trying to get a greencard I don't think usa is worth it. Maybe get Canadain citizenship first and usis might not worry about your birth country as much.

Singh... TOP Canadian universities, cost almost the SAME as the other ones in the same province. Ots a regulated tuition fee, because they are ALL subsidized. At least for Canadians. McGill, is actually cheaper than Laval for us. But YES, it's 29K$CDN for foreign students. at McGill Although if you compare it to the same level US university (Ivy league universities ONLY give you an edge in the USA. I have a buddy with an Economics degree from OXFORD, who now lives in Montreal and he won't get hired there or in Toronto because he lacks Canadian experience) ... It's WAY cheaper. ALL OVER THE WORLD' McGill is recognized. So even though Americans downplay it. It's just as worthy as the top ones there and it's ranked in the top 20-30 Unis in the world year after year... . ANd it's usually compared to Columbia by nitpickers. That means 30,000$USD per SEMESTER, for foreign students... OVER twice the rice of McGill. !!!
