Lol 🤣 You are funny Ian! Great job on all the work, filming, editing and carrying ridiculously heavy tiles!! Love Daphne’s input!! 🤣 Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
This was so much fun ☺😄Love the tiles and yes, they look incredibly heavy, so kudos to you for getting them inside without breaking them! The grounds are looking incredible and it's a such a massive job to upkeep trees and plants when there's so much wildlife about. We have a lot of wild boar and deer in our area too, so I know how much damage they do. The moat is looking awesome and I love your Sphinx as well!. Just so much to love about your wonderful home...thank you so much for sharing it with us! 🥰😍🤗💚🌳🌺
Thank you Marisa! We have had our oar year into the backside of the chateau for a few years until we built an electric fence, so we plan on hooking up to that and extending it to surround the garden. 👍
Fabulous vlog, loved the dog with the camera 😂😂 I would plant easy to maintain ones as the two have you have so much to do, or look to get the town involved with the garden would be a suggestion, they could use it in exchange for their time?
Well that was fun! I am wondering if there are any nearby Horticultural schools that would be interested in having their students have real-life experience work working in your gardens? Cheers from Toronto
I suggest you consult a landscape designer because you will need to plant a large variety of flowering shrubs, perennials and bulbs. The soil should be tested to ensure that it’s suitable to support your investment and efforts. Good soil is the basis of a successful garden. You have an amazing area to plant an exquisite garden that has both historic and personal significance.
Peppermint or rosemary, essential oils, put in a spray bottle with vinegar. Shake up your spray, bottle and spray on bush and at the base to keep the deer away. I use this for my tulips, which deer absolutely love to eat mine . If you don’t want to do that collect your egg shells and crunch up and drop at the bottom of your cypress trees and it will keep deer away. Deer hate the smell of eggs. I don’t know what works with wild boar. I love your inserts of Daphne when you’re talking to her she’s not there.😂 Great sense of humor! Thank your hard work is appreciated.
Thank you for your advice! Daphne will definitely use essential oils around the garden after we plant some more flowers and trees. We will also fence off the whole garden in the coming months, so we hope a combination of protective measures will keep our garden happy 😄
Essential oils will need reapplication fairly often, as they will degrade and lose effectiveness, so keep an eye (or nose) out fairly often in the beginning to see when the oils are losing their 'punch'.
most wildlife can't stand the smell of Marigold flowers. They are the best organic and natural garden border/ wildlife deterrent. Plant a circle around each chicken wire cage for now, then after you've fenced in the entire garden (which saddens me) you can remove the cages and if you like, continue to keep marigolds around each tree for contrast and color 😍
Yeah essential oils will be completely impractical. Too expensive, too much to cover, they wash/wear off really quickly. Here in California we can get a spray made from eggs and garlic. Deer absolutely HATE bad smells. It smells bad enough to make you gag when wet, but when it dries only the animals can smell it. Still have to reapply after rain. Also if that were boar damage there would be no tree left lol.
Thank you! We wanted to maintain a natural palette in the hunters lodge since the facade has limestone and there are a lot of large wooden beams. I think it will all work well together 😊
Bonjour, A tout hasard, connaissez-vous la référence de votre carrelage vert ? Il est sublime, l’harmonie que vous avez choisi ira tellement bien dans cette salle de bain. Belle journée à vous, Lola

I love your channel! The opening shots of the chateau are stunning! The dog and the camera was crazy! Like giving a camera to a small kid! The cat inspecting your work along the wall and on the sphinx made me laugh. Our cat walks around after we mow the yard or rake leaves. Thanks for sharing! ❤
I love seeing the gardens being revealed! Lavender running the entire length of the 4 long beds. Dahlias would be amazing to have in a cutting garden;good for event flowers. They are a lot of work though. (have to be dug up every year and replanted in spring). It would be worth getting a Landscape Designer to create a planting plan. It would give you the big picture and then you can implement it yourself over time .
Since you have a wedding venue I would research what are the most popular cut flowers for weddings and plant those. Definitely lots of roses, hydrangeas, peony and baby's breath.
In your potential Formal Garden Feature Lily Pond, you have a stepped side which allows for Nelumbo plants (8-10) in large submerged baskets. The Nelumbo plants need to be closer to the surface of the water to get light to their emerging leaves which are magnificent. Hydroponic feeding with tablets monthly is your big maintanance chore (but wait, you've got waders). Don't bother with fancy koi, choose a hardy fish able to withstand your milder winters, maybe Shubunkins or Comets which come in lovely bright colors perfect as a backdrop to the lotus. There are fish safe water dyes if your pond needs to become more sky-reflective instead of seeing the mechanics of the plant baskets early in the season. Solar or electric, you will need power to aerate the water both for the plant health and for the fish yearround. Best wishes from a cold hardy New England gardener who had all of the above.
So happy to see you :) Earthworms are good! :). Living in the New Forest I have to say that I doubt your chicken wire will deter deer. They are strong, determined and relentless but something is definitely better than nothing. You must miss Daphne a lot and Sabrina is such a darling Hope you arent too lonely what with posting videos between 4-5 am I guess you are .. The dock looks great xxx
Thank you! The chicken wire is a temporary solution until we fully fence off the garden in the coming months. I definitely miss Daphne and Sabrina is the cutest! Thankfully she will be back soon 👍 Unfortunately, the weather here has been crazy and messing with our internet. This video should have posted several hours earlier but the internet decided otherwise 😆
Unfortunately, even the tallest fence won't deter deer. Needs to be over 8 foot There are plants, many that flowers that can be placed in the garden that might help. Lavender and peonies are two. I haven't had them harm my orchard trees, but they do help clean up fallen rotting fruit in the fall off the ground.
We’ve done this exact thing to our arbor vitaes that we planted a couple years ago. The chicken wire will keep the deer from rubbing their antlers on the trees and tearing them up. For some reason deer have a keen ability to choose gorgeous new trees to destroy rather than using the ones in the forest. 🧐. It’s frustrating. Another thing we did was to tie some reflective tape on the chicle wire to spook the deer. It seems to have worked so far. Good luck!
Deer love that type of plant, gonna need a tall fence. The resin idea was pretty cool to see. Cannot wait to see how the bathroom comes together. Thank you for sharing.
You are more than welcome to watch our videos as many times as you can handle 😄 I will try to get the next video out faster so you can have something new 👍
DUDE, you are in so much trouble (using all that footage of Daphne whilst she's away). It cracked me up and I laughed almost the entire vlog!! p.s. Not so much loving the "green" with rust vein tile.. it will be hard to match up with the neighboring piece and make the wall dizzying, as well as hard to decorate accordingly. (IMHO) Go with the beige/tan, it will be gorgeous!!
Love your humor! Wow you sure did a great job on the moat! Your Chateau exterior has more color and design which would be perfect framed in an all white flower garden. Just a thought - whatever you do will end up stunning!
I was actually looking for a new video from you two just minutes before it posted and viola! This was another absolute treasure of a video with great laughs, your editing was hilariously awesome! Love the new tile, we know not to mess with you now that you moved them all yourself! Escape to Rural France has a great tree guy - maybe get a hold of him and ask him how to deal with the tree in the fence? If anyone has the experience to give pointers it is him. Tree guy's name is escaping me but Dan has the EtRF channel.
I must be psychic 😉 or our internet took the struggle bus and delayed the posting by several hours 😜 I appreciate your encouraging feedback! Thank you very much for keeping an eye out for our new videos. That really means a lot 🙏
The travertine, green marble, and wood-look floor tile is a good combo. It is exactly what I used for the master bath in my house in Austin. I also added clear resin to the larger openings in the travertine which created a unique look that people liked. I may do something similar to my new house here in France. Cheers-
Glad to see ya, you did good on the editing. Flower ideas would be endless. Dahlias, roses of course, peonies, Irises, Lavendar, Russian sage, tulips, Bee Balm, Clematis, crocuses, lilacs, impatience, wildflowers to attract the bees and butterflies. Guess I am thinking, of the flowers planted around my house and a few extra I don't remember their names.
Wonderful you are protecting young trees. I can see the plant Yarrow , which has so many benefits for all on earth, growing well and Calendula for your own best health , love your vids❤
Ok that was pretty funny with the cut always to Daphne. Hopefully she’s home soon - bet you miss her. Your dog sounds like our German shepherd when he wants attention - the nose whistling can be intense 😂
Get yourself some Irish Spring Soap and hang it in the trees 🌲. Use some netting material like what onions in the States comes in. Use about 1/2 a bar for each tree. Deer 🦌 don’t like it cause it smells like humans.
I would suggest, Lavender and Hydrangeas for sure. Mix in some bulbs, both Tulips and Daffodils for some early color. The bulbs will self multiply over the years, so some extra to transplant elsewhere if you wish. Planting some Rosemary plants would also be a good permanent choice as well. Both the Rosemary and the Lavender plants detour Gophers as well. Since I am also from NoCal, bring a bit of home to your Chateau, throw out a bunch of California Poppy seeds, I bought some at the Jardin store when we were at our French Farmhouse last year. The California Poppies will bloom most of the year and will self seed for new plants for the next season. Have fun! 😎 Enjoying your Videos.

C est si agréable de voir des objectifs qui se construisent ...hum des pétales de fleurs dans le traversin ou le marbre qu'elle idée creative. J'adore votre vidéo jeune homme!!! Merci
Placing soil on stumps quickens the rotting process, how could you bag soil around the wood left in the fence? Just a thought. Or just keep slicing the remaining wood to quicken the deterioration
It’s good to see your sense of humour coming out. You could also plant vegetables in the garden as well as perennials and annual flowers. How about some fruit trees?😀🇨🇦
Great editing! 😂 Looks like maybe you need deer resistant flowers and plants. I know from experience they don’t like certain hydrangeas, Heather, rhododendron, azaleas and zinnias. Almost everything else, they will eat. 😢
The deer eat my hydrangea and I've had two types. They also eat zinnias and azaleas in my yard. They never eat lavender, mint, boxwood, holly, hellebores, daffodils, Alberta spruce, dianthus, peonies, irises in my yard. They ate my cypress as well. I've had the war against deer for years. It's frustrating and wasteful at times to find my investment ruined. I've sprayed with oils but it's temporary until the next rain. I would recommend a fence if possible, but I do believe 8feet is necessary. I love your blog and wish you both success! What hard workers you both are!
@@calvarychapelnorthjersey7040 They eat my white hydrangeas but leave the blue and pink ones. Thankfully they have not discovered the other plants and hopefully never do. 🤗
Yes, it has been used for boat launching. I needed to clear it out to get our boat in there to clean the rest of the moat walls. Usually our boat will stay tied up on the launch through summer.
I laughed out loud at the shot of your dog running out with the camera 🤣 On the subject of flowers, I would highly recommend Hydrangea Paniculata. They start blooming in the early summer into beautiful white conical flowers and stay in bloom all summer, they eventually turn into a dusty pink color in the fall - which is pretty as well. Another variety is the Hydrangea Arborescens "Annabelle", these bloom into huge white flower balls and are great to use as dry flowers. I think this could be used as stylish deco for your wedding business. Be beware, Hydrangea don't do too great in the full afternoon sun, they prefer a morning and evening sun. But they are super easy maintenance and frost resistant. Just need to trim them once a year. Also, I would definitely recommend a small rose garden because what's a château without one, right?
Archaea is a natural camera pup 👌 Thank you for your input! We will probably add hydrangeas and plenty of roses! Daphne is hoping to plant some low maintenance flowers for this first year of reviving the garden. It is likely that the floral design will evolve over time😊
I would recommend always wearing gloves and using a respirator mask when using resin. Exposure to resin/epoxy is extremely dangerous. Auntie Tay has a great video on her youtube channel about the health issues she's faced after using resin without proper PPE. It's called "WARNING!!! Before you EPOXY or RESIN ANYTHING!!!" Love your videos!
STOP! WARNING Landscaping is expensive and HIGH Maintenance. I’m landscaping a 1/4 acre alone for years now. I’m outside everyday roughly 5hrs work. If I go away for 3 weeks the weeding becomes Astronomical. Baby plants need twice the care. You NEED a Full Time GARDENER for your scale of project or you will loose a lot of money and plants. Alternatively you will find yourself with a new career Landscape Gardener after just a few beds. Make a plan with a Landscaper and think about Volunteers their needs/ accommodation meals etc…Your Garden is BIG, Think BIG. Can’t wait to see it all. All the best.
Awesome video on your own! 👍 Since this is my thing, every time I see your land I think of how it is suitable for outdoor dog events like Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Lure Coursing, etc. Not sure about Paris, but many clubs have trouble finding suitably large spaces for these events. They are usually multi-day events. Ask the Fédération cynologique internationale (FCI) - it is one of the biggest dog organizations in Europe. Arcadia will thank you. 😘 🐾🐾
Plant A LOT of mint, and rosemary, lavender and basil. Deer and bugs won’t like it. You can research other repellent plants to add. Chives, Sage, and Oregano are also good.
For flowers maybe Peonies, Dahlias, Lavender and of course some Roses. I know for sure all of those grow well in France. There are just so many to choose from.
If those bamboo stakes are starting to bud, you’d better remove them. You absolutely should not use fresh bamboo to stake the cypress. It’ll root and take over. Dried bamboo (hollow in center) is fine to use but not fresh. Love the “camerawork” from the dog😂🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Just a suggestion, a wood chipper might be easier and faster for clean up.All you need to do then, is remove wood chips.Just a thought.😅 I think wood chippers are available to rent.
Lol 🤣 You are funny Ian! Great job on all the work, filming, editing and carrying ridiculously heavy tiles!! Love Daphne’s input!! 🤣

plant an ocean of tulips in all colors..that would be nice
I think you should make the moat into a water garden. And of course plant natives, that are beautiful and beneficial for the neighborhood.
Your pretty funny, that was a good vlog...
Well that was fun! I am wondering if there are any nearby Horticultural schools that would be interested in having their students have real-life experience work working in your gardens? Cheers from Toronto
You did a good job on removal of the ivy. 👍 Your dog is gorgeous. 💕 It’ll be deer eating your tree.
As far as I remember, deer love cypress…
That dog running away the camera was priceless.
360 camera + dog bone + duct tape = priceless 👌

Your dad is very cool! Also very funny episode. Love your stories.
Hydrangeas, Crepe Myrtle, Cherry Blossom
My husband woke up before me and waited for me to watch with him 😂
That’s a good man 😉
Thsts sweet
Great editing! 😂 Looks like maybe you need deer resistant flowers and plants. I know from experience they don’t like certain hydrangeas, Heather, rhododendron, azaleas and zinnias. Almost everything else, they will eat. 😢
Thanks for the tip! We are planning to fence off the whole garden in the next few months, so hopefully our garden won’t become snack time after that 😄
@@TheBeauChateau Oh boy, I think they say 8' is almost definitely deer proof and that 4' will deter quite a bit. How high are you planning?
I think a variety of wildflowers would look awesome in the flower beds!
Do you think that was a boat launch?
Yes, it has been used for boat launching. I needed to clear it out to get our boat in there to clean the rest of the moat walls. Usually our boat will stay tied up on the launch through summer.
@@TheBeauChateau you’re doing a great job! Looks great
Best edits of all the videos I’ve seen so far. The “what do you think daphne” moments were hilarious love your channel.
Archaea is a natural camera pup 👌
Thank you for your input! We will probably add hydrangeas and plenty of roses! Daphne is hoping to plant some low maintenance flowers for this first year of reviving the garden. It is likely that the floral design will evolve over time😊
Wow...So beautiful... 😮😍What kind of courage do you need for such an endeavour? I feel miserable. 😊 Good luck to both of you.
I would recommend always wearing gloves and using a respirator mask when using resin. Exposure to resin/epoxy is extremely dangerous. Auntie Tay has a great video on her youtube channel about the health issues she's faced after using resin without proper PPE. It's called "WARNING!!! Before you EPOXY or RESIN ANYTHING!!!"
Love your videos!
STOP! WARNING
Landscaping is expensive and HIGH Maintenance.
Ooo - hydrangeas - big creamy ones - I’m hoping to have a couple myself 🌼🌼🌼
Enchanting! Love the Chateau and what you are accomplishing!
You are so funny!!! Oh, I'm editing this by myself. LOL. LOL. LOL.
For flowers maybe Peonies, Dahlias, Lavender and of course some Roses. I know for sure all of those grow well in France. There are just so many to choose from.
Climbing roses. Cosmos violas violets. Lavenders. Borage
😂😂😂👍🏻👋🏻👋🏻🇨🇦🐉👩🏼⚖️
This one was hilarious...I love all your funny editing work! You obviously kept yourself busy while missing her ;)
Woow Ian thats A LOT OF WORK God bless these hands 🙌🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Getrud jeckyll designed the most wonderful gardens. Or, plow the squares and sew a flower meadow….
Flowers of daffodils, chrysanthemums, a lot of bulbs so they come up in summer ... colour ones .. great clean up of the sphinx
To begin with, maybe have wildflowers in those huge beds. Shouldn’t be too expensive nor high maintenance.
