I was amazed too! I was also thinking that this kind of labour was done by dozens of workers in the past and to think you are accomplishing this on your own is something to be celebrated.
By the way, the actual footage from visiting him was 2 hrs long and we cut it down to 40 minutes of fun gardening factoids! We plan on posting a 20-30 minute video of that on our Patreon in the coming weeks 😊
Your channel has quickly evolved into my very favourite channel to watch. 🤍 Your efforts to research the history of your beautiful chateau paired with your honest, backbreaking work to restore and preserve it is truly mesmerizing. Keep up the good work and your refreshingly down-to-earth spirit! Much love and respect from Austria 👏🏻🤍
Great teamwork! I'm worn out from watching you both do all that work!! lol. The garden is going to look amazing when you're finished. What a blessing to have each other, and live on such a Beautiful estate.
Thank you so much! 🥰 We try our best to count our blessings and not take it for granted. We appreciate sharing the experience with you and all of the other chateau enthusiasts!
It's nice that having a UA-cam channel can help pay for upkeep! I'll bet a lot of the properties wouldn't have been lost, if this income were around earlier. Just watching & enjoying from the comfort of home to help their business, is better than traveling in cold weather!
Hydrangeas would look beautiful along the curved wall. I can picture the brides taking lots of photos along the wall. Great job in the garden, coming along beautifully. ❤️
Loving the progress of the garden restoration. I just hope you didn’t plant the cypresses too deep. Watch to see how to water sits in the well that you created around the base. If water collects and gathers at the base of the tree it could kill it. Easy fix. Just pull the tree out and put more soil in the bottom and then replant making sure the rootball of the tree sits elevated from the native soil by about an inch or so. Remember that the soil that you back fill into the hole needs to be packed tight around the rootball. Good luck! ❤️😊
If you have a lot to plant you may want to consider using a drill and auger to dig the holes. I have not used it myself but have seen it on UA-cam on Garden Answer. It's a US family that owns a nursery and uses various sizes of augers for planting bulbs, bushes, etc. It makes quick work of things. You may save yourself a tonne of time and energy! Good luck!
Are you going to plant flowers in the 'racing strips' that you can cut and use for your weddings? I think its called a cut flower garden? Either way I'm so excited for you both! It's going to be SO beautiful!! What a great space!!
The trees are too close to the brick perimeter. You need at least 6 feet, 12 feet is better from a perimeter to allow for tree root growth that won't lift the perimeter in 10+ years time.
Wow, this project is fascinating - keep telling us more! I would love to hear more of Monsieur the Apple Cruncher. I wonder if there are any historic photos that show the terrace in use?
Thank you so much, Barb! Our plans keep growing as we spend more time in the garden. We are very patiently waiting for the electricity to be ready in the offices so we can continue that project this winter as well😊
I am ready for spring at the Chateau! Planting the flowers and working on the "hidden garden" is going to be so exciting. Lots of work still ahead, try to conserve your energy (and muscles) so no injuries occur. Cypress trees are going to be amazing. Well done.
Have you thought about using a small excavator to take the top layer off the garden soil and grass? As the drone flies over, it gives the amazing views with the edges you guys dug, and a small digger may help to uncover the cobbles too. The tree guy was fascinating! He seemed like his knowledge was endless. What a gem of a man, that he is coming alongside your garden adventures!!
There is a machine the helps lift sod. Maybe you can re t one to lift the sod off the cobbles. Can’t wait to see what you uncover. Maybe it was an outdoor stage. You are such a lovely and hard working couple.
This is all so exciting!! Several years from now you will be getting so much fruit you won't know wht to do with it! I know you want to sell to some restaurants so hopefully you will have massive success!! It will be stunningly beautiful as well!!
How amazing that even after so many years since your grandfather bought the property and of you living there, the Chateau still has hidden new parts of the original garden landscaping for you to discover. It is such a magical place and you are clearly making great advancements! Uncovering those cobbles will be hard work, but so worth it! And well done on the cypress trees, they look great! 💕🤗💕
I am so excited about your Chateau garden transformation! You can obviously see the thought and enthusiasm that goes into your projects .Another lovely video, thank u!!!
You two are like me and my guy--we work like field hands! 😂 Last spring we fully landscaped our front yard. You haven't really had fun until you've met the challenge of bring home three 8 foot crape myrtle trees in a Honda CRV (no, we didn't do them all at once. We are hardworking, not crazy). But landscaping is some of the most satisfying work you can do--instant transformation! You guys both work hard and keeping entertaining us, while your dog lives a great outdoor life. 😂👍
I would love to be there with you! If I were 40 years younger I'd be very tempted to jump on a plane and show up! Thank you for letting me live vicariously!
I think, with the size property you have, it would be well worth investing in a wood chipper! It would handle fallen leaves, branches, and anything else you could turn into free mulch. The orchard / garden is going to look amazing, once those trees mature!
Wow you guys are doing such amazing work. Well deserved nap for sure! Depending on the wind in that area of the garden the lovely cypresses may need a bit of support when they get bigger. Just to keep them straight while their trunks get sturdy. Looks beautiful already.
The dog is such a good helper! And cute, too. The cyprus trees are charming. So glad you are following the old parterre garden look. Are the orchard trees going into another area? (I hope). It'll be nice to have your own fruit. You guys work so hard. Why not have volunteers? Many hands make light work. And you'll reach your goals faster with volunteers. It takes a village.
I am absolutely loving your videos. You have a beautiful place and wonderful plans to revive its history and I get to catch up with the french language. I can understand the majority. I enjoyed listening to the knowledge of the fruit tree guy. He could fill your videos with great stories. Hope you'll visit him more often. 😁 What a great difference with all the branches cut down. Can't wait to see the before and after aerial view.
Ok you two, I am tired watching you and it's 8pn NY time and I am lying in bed, so you know you worked your tails off. The garden is going to look so wonderful when you are done, I am so happy you will go with an electric fence instead of hunters for the wild boar issue. Not to add more to your plate, but the cobble stones sound interesting, I think a fire pit when all is finished would be a nice place for some R&R with a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next video. Love from N.Y.
@@TheBeauChateau Awesome! Do you watch any of the other chateaux channels? Chateau de la Ferte is doing a grand salon in white and gold leaf. The Pethericks are working on an abandoned convent. I watch some where I do not like their taste - too modern and monochromic are some problems I see. I love traditional. Probably the retired history teacher in me. Everyone seems to own a digger, cherry picker, and chipper. Hope you’ll own your own soon!
I’m tired just watching you guys. Yard work is hard enough but a chateau garden is another story 😂 The tree farmer was fun to listen to. Très sympa, and knowledgeable in fruit trees. People freak out about earwings but they are veracious aphid eaters and not the bad guys everyone thinks they are.
Nice work, but did you account for the size of the cypresses at maturity? You may lose the definition and symmetry of the stonework when they grow up to or overgrow the stone boundary. I know they have a narrow/columnar habit, but they seem quite close to your borders. Your visualization technique with the bamboo was a great idea/teaching tool, but you could also use a cardboard cutout to help visualize the footprint of the plant. It really helps when laying out beds. As others have noted, I'm really glad to see you promoting permaculture and sustainability. Best of luck. Oh, and a note on flamethrowing weeds. If you buy a flamethrower/garden torch, be sure to check the BTUs. They vary widely. The average disposable (bad) lighter is 3000-3,500 BTUs, so that's a starting point when shopping. I bought a garden torch here in the States that is 500,000 at full blast. It is most satisfying to go out in the rain and torch. Can't wait to see your progress.
I just love your vlogs! You're doing a grand job on the property. As a keen gardener, I'm watching with a great sense of excitement all your garden plans and renovations. The guy at the apple orchard was very interesting and had lots of info on how to garden sustainably. Can't wait for the next episode! Keep up the good work, it will be so worth it!
Hello from Nashville, Tennessee! I have a question. Should you have the planting spaces scraped before you plant flowers? I would think you would want someone to scrape up the grass and weeds in the big rectangular areas too. I am not sure but I would want to scrape it back down to where they planted gardens decades ago. Just a thought. I am sure it will help you out come springtime! It's going to be great but I would think it would be time to call in your friends to help clear out the upper terrace too! Best of luck! I wish I could be there to help you out!!!
Also do you know which Essential Oil the man at the tree nursery was using to keep deer away? I found his methods really interesting! I didn’t know that about earwigs!
I would love to know that farmer's deer trick! We have the worst problem with deer and have tried everything!!!! They rub against our small trees and eat all our flowers. It is demoralizing (to say the least). If you find out the essential oils he uses, please share! It looks great guys!
I love your channel! You have an amazing opportunity to uncover history. When you showed the garden picture in the earlier days , I can see some difference on the structure of the building. Am I mistaking but there used to be 3 floors instead of 2?
Watching your Chateau garden progress from a 36 deg summer here in Australia 🇦🇺 Totally immersed in your video, absolutely loving the garden restoration & of course your gorgeous dog 💕
I don't know why I got choked up, the man talking about the trees, the varies, boars, deers, and how to care for them. It happened again when the cypress trees were planted. Maybe it was about the restoration of the gardens from hundreds of years ago, is returning home
New to your channel and I am really love watching what you are doing to this beautiful Chateau. Will be fun to see how your garden grows. Love your dog and cat and how they watch over you.
Have you thought of espaliered fruit trees. They look beautiful. Where your terrace is in the garden, how about a beautiful pergola. Or the pergola at one end of the garden where you have unearthed the curved part of your grass. Enjoying seeing the unveiling of your lovely garden. Love your channel.
As the bed markers are so deep into the ground are you going to have to remove a lot of the topsoil that’s built up over the past hundred years to make them flush with the ground again?
Goodmorning guys, wow great job, love to see you're caring for the environment also!! 💚 The farmer you guys found was outstanding ,he's full of excellent advice,I'd befriend him for sure!! Thanks again for sharing with us,all the best and have a good one!! ❤️
Very nice. Trees will be beautiful. I love the curve of the new discovered wall. So much work. Gardening is back breaking. Hope you all got rest feel better.
Great suggestion. In case they have to bring in big machinery to fix the fountain or dig trenches for to fix or lay new pipes. I would hold off with planting. If you have to dig trenches for pipes, it may be worth putting conduit in the ground for future lighting. You can add the lighting when you can afford it. It’s best to create one big mess, put everything in the ground and then start planting.
We are still trying to find someone who knows how to work with the fountain and can give us a quote on it. In the meantime we will not be planting where the water lines are running so we can dig them up if necessary. We cannot wait to get bring the fountain back! 😊
I smile every time I watch your videos. I found your channel yesterday and I started from your very first video ever and I've been binge watching them ever since and now I'm addicted. How exciting! You guys always find something unexpected! I love the Cypress trees! It’s fun to see the planting begin! Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
What a wonderful job you're both doing! Just love seeing your progress and you're both such hard workers! One day in the near future, you'll look back and reminisce over all the wonderful things you have achieved! Bravo! Love it all 🥰🤩🤗😘
I truly love your channel. Look forward to it more than most of the Chateau channels. Something very special about yours. Archea is such a sweet girl and an excellent supervisor. 😉
Fantastique ! 🌸🌸🌸
I would recommend, to really take a good look under the earth...20 cm min.....like You already found cobblestones underneath...I'm sure You'll find more, especially under this 'terrasse" ...
I was utterly drawn in to the conversation you had with the fruit tree specialist...wow, does he know fruit trees!!! He's so intelligent and I love that he's organic. Thank you so much for sharing. ox
Aah lovely, your doing great! Love your vlogs, I know your doing the hard work but it’s so relaxing to watch 😂 it will be amazing and rewarding when you stand back and to yourself…”We did that” ❤
You are so cute and so beautiful, full of energy, ideas and strength. Thanks for sharing it with us!!!!! Loved the pepinieriste and his tree knowledge!!!!
Am I the only person who anticipates a video every week from The Beau Chateau like it’s a TV show?! 😂😍🙋🏽♀️
UA-camrs usually have a posting schedule they stick to. So it works like a TV Show
Probably not. Would be nice, but one plans one's plans and then life happens regardless of the plans.
I totally agree! I love The Beau Chateau! It’s absolutely charming ❤
❤
Same ❤most favorite channel from all chateau channels that I’m following
Constantly blown away by how much work you two can get done by yourselves!
We appreciate your support! It is a lot of work, but we do our best to make it fun. Archaea helps bring the laughter 😊
Was about to remark the same! My back already hurts by just lóoking at You two toiling away..
I was amazed too! I was also thinking that this kind of labour was done by dozens of workers in the past and to think you are accomplishing this on your own is something to be celebrated.
You have given the garden a lift with just the Cyprus giving height to the formal garden.
Your apple guy is terrific! He is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable
We loved how he uses his shovel as a walking stick 😄

Could you guys use a metal detector around the property? You may find something interesting! By the way, good job.
Planting is so exciting! I’m so impressed with how much you’ve accomplished in the garden. You’re planting dreams! Remember to enjoy the process. 💕💕💕
I love that you share the French language and talk to French people. For me, it enriches the experience of non-English cultures.
Ah, to be Young, in Love and Living your Dreams! So impressed with you two, & look forward to each and every video!

So nice to learn from the tree nurseryman. He was so knowledgeable. I learned a few things for my own fruit trees.:)
I do enjoy watching you both you’ve accomplished so much. I look forward to seeing you each week

The apple guy is a gem!
Pardon, I don't believe Monsieur Pomme's name was revealed. But he has an interesting accent.
Use a digger with the grater attachment then plant fresh sod ❤️🇨🇦
Many times I see people but down a layer of cardboard before the mulch. Not sure if that would help but I hope it’s okay to mention it.

How does that dog know how to dig where you all are digging and carry the bamboo around , so funny!!
It was so sweet to see how well you got along with the orchard grower. He was delighted to see your enthusiasm for permaculture and plants.💖
Great work! Love seeing the Airforce stuff on.

Great work !! Did you take in account the space the cypress will have when an adult tree ? For me it seems a bit close to the border ...

Those trees really make a dramatic difference ! It's looking really great ❤
oh i can't wait to see the trees later as well as your plans for the garden come to fruition
If I was u I would take out the bamboo sticks as bamboo spreads and spreads and could takeover the whole garden. It is very difficult to get rid of.
They were just place holders.
Essential oils?
So proud of you! Don’t know how you do it! All the hard work is bringing back this amazing garden. Love watching the progress.
How exciting! You guys always find something unexpected! I love the Cypress trees! It’s fun to see the planting begin!
Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
Thank you, Mary! We are very excited about it too 🥰
What a wonderful job you're both doing!
That means so much to us 🥰 Thank you!
Fantastique !
