      The short answer is 'no' - its best to buy the rock and extract yourself, however, getting decent rock is now a problem, you quite often get 1 batch that is pretty good, then the next order you get a bag of sand. I bought a few samples and got them tested, no great. The guy I got these samples from is listed above, you could give him a try. Glad you liked the video.

      there are of course many facilities in Indian making / preparing and colleges

    @Netera Alchemy Thank you Bro for taking time to enlighten us, I would be glad to know that what proportion/weight in grams/kgs/liters of each of three ingredients >1.Raw Shilajit /2. Milk/Triphula are added together?

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the message, no problem, glad you felt enlightened.
      Shilajit in this video was 2.5kg (I think). You lose a certain amount due to impurity of material, hence the cleaning process. Milk 1ltr. Triphala was maybe 4 ltr.
      Triphala is 8-1 ratio, so 8 parts water to 1pt triphala, reduced to 1pt. Its a standard Ayurvedic mix.
      You need to start with quite a large amount, then reduce. Making triphala decoction is the longest bit.
      In Indian some companies just use milk only, but I'd not recommend. Make sure triphala is added last.

    I heard that in Ayurveda, the process of making Shilajit is by sun dried method. Boiling the Shilajit will decrease its effect.
    Please tell us more about sun dried method. Thank you

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  2 роки тому +3

      Both methods are given. Caraka Samhita mentions cooking to aid its mixing with other materials. Very high temperature is applied to obtain Sattva. Usually the sun dried method is applied because it requires less effort and is essentially a free cooking source. I'm not sure why heating would lessen its effect? What is being neutralised by the application of low heat i.e.: 100 degrees (boiling water).

      Hi and thanks for question. The problem with offering it
      commercially is that production is time consuming and so costly. In addition, some
      of the brands I've been able to test are pretty poor, low content or so called
      extracts. There are a few people who continue to supply the real thing, but
      equally I have bought from my original sources only to be sold 'cut' shilajit,
      usually mixed with sugar to bulk up quantity. The commercially available shilajit
      is relatively low cost but in some cases a gamble on what you actually get. Where
      are you in the world? I can maybe suggest a few suppliers.

      @@YouNolf No, not come across that. Milk has been given as a suitable medium to use in combination with Shilajit - admittedly more energetic than for its chemical properties. Also, milk as we know it is pretty poor quality these days. Homogenisation of milk or blending from different variety of cows might be a detrimental factor in its use. In India some factories were using UHT milk to clean Shilajit, god knows what that’s doing to the end product.

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  4 роки тому +2

      Shilajit is a medicine and so not really necessary to take all the time, although people may take more regularly due to the effects described. The one thing people often miss is that it’s not necessarily what you take, it’s what you are able to assimilate (digest). Many of these rasayana (tonics) were taken in larger quantity after periods of extended purification. There is a danger that without pre-preparing the body - tonics can become material that does not get used and may even contribute to ill health. I've tied lots of Shilajit, there is benefit to be sure, but it’s generally not recommended for everyone. Also it is not necessary to take all the time. If you read back through the many conversations on here you will see some of the contraindications of Shilajit as well as the benefits. AND like you said, yes, definitely better to process yourself.

    Is milk a regular additive in most common forms of shilajit? I've never seen dairy added before.

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  6 років тому +3

      Quite commonly in India. Milk is a general rasayana and so used to purify a good number of rasa shastra preps. Milk is also readily available, no decoction needs to be made up, so popular with some companies. Its best to use both milk and triphala, the astringency of the latter aids in
      removing or break up milk solids. If these remain the milk can sour or worse still, go mouldy.

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  6 років тому

      I think your thinking of fossilised tree amber? This is also used as a medicine. Shilajit is a bitumen that exudes from the mountain rocks. Ayurvedic classics refer to three types of Shilajatu, those which containing small amounts of iron, copper or gold. There is no consensus on the formation of this resinous material. Some say its mainly plant based, others mineral. The latter is becoming more popular, marketed as having taken millions of years to form (and so more costly). Shilajit might roughly be translated as overpowering rock, or becoming stronger than stone etc.

      If you incinerate it carbonises, black ash. best test is to place in cool water and see a piece dissolve sending out brown tendrils. If it stays as a lump its maybe cut with jaggery etc. Thread after burning sounds like sugar? Should be initial sweet, then bitter and astringent. There is so much junk out there now, its hard to know without trying it. I just got a batch chemically tested and thankfully it was OK. But I've bought a few batches that were terrible.

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  5 років тому +13

      Thanks for commentary, but you still do not cite any sources for your
      assertions. What is being destroyed by the heat? Boiling temp is not
      high temperature. The method given in this video is closely aligned to
      preparation methods given in Caraka Samhita (a 2000+ year old text).You’re of course
      entitled to your opinions but you’ll need to cite a source. As I have
      stated in many comments below there are a number of substances described
      as Shilajeet, so it is not 100% clear what was actually being called
      Shilajit/Shilajeet or Adrija (another name for this substance). In
      addition, classical 7th century alchemical texts tell us this material
      may be heated to a very high temperature to obtain its sattva or purest
      element. So your idea of heat being detrimental goes out the window I’m
      afraid. BTW it’s Shilajit, Shilajeet, Adrija etc. Not sure why that
      spelling is so hard to get correct? As a Dr. of Unani what texts are
      you actually following? What school do you follow etc? If your
      commenting on a local tradition that might explain why the method given
      seems wrong to you. BUT you have to go back to original texts as
      transmission can change/warp original ideas to suit the locale. So for
      instance if milk or triphala was hard to come by, another liquid might be substituted etc. This does not mean the original was wrong, its just not what you are used to.

      Tests are XRF and XRD for mineral compounds. I'd not done a

      This is a typical sort of report.
      Expiration period - debateable, as milk solids may potentially cause problems if improperly stored. I've not seen any moulds formed on shilajit, its probably too inhospitable for spores to grow.
      Longevity of natural unpurifed rock sample is indeterminate, as no one knows
      how long its taken to form, some schools says its millions of years old, others
      a relatively new source that is being replenished. Take your pick.

      Yes, Caraka Samhita mentions high doses, or what to that era 'seemed' normal but now seems high to us. Also, a number of variations are mentioned, so there is lack of clarity on what was actually being referred to. The question then becomes, what is a high dose? If its black bitumen a.k.a Shilajit, it seems OK to consume a few grams daily without peril. I'm not sure what dose would even be dangerous; as everyone has different levels of absorption and digestive ability. Overall, I have found this material works better when formulated. If you want to explore the question more deeply, start with Caraka Samhita: Volume III, the first part of which looks as various types of Rasayana, including various types of shilajit.

    What should be the ratio of triphala decoction and milk with shilajit. And after adding milk how long we should heat the mixture.

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  5 років тому +2

      That depends upon qty of Shilajit. Triphala decoction is 8-1(water to dried fruits) and reduced to 1pt. So for instance 1kg of Shilajit would need at least 1.5-2ltr of Triphala. Usually milk is half the qty of Triphala. It’s a good idea to do initial filtration with hot water only, to remove stones; sand etc. 2nd filtration can be water and milk. Final filtration is Triphala. The astringency of Triphala removes any remaining milk solids. The important thing is to make sure milk solids are washed out or they can mould. PS: make sure you remove debris of triphala fruits or sediment if you use triphala powder - don't mix this into the shilajit, it will taste terrible. Taken with warm milk and sweetened with honey it is not too bad. Good luck............ :-)

      Yes, it will freeze, that's what happens to it in the mountains, the spring thaw sees it dripping down the rock faces. I imagine over time this process slowly changes its apparance, the ice crystals helping to break it up, make it less earthy. What processing have you done so far?

    How wise is it to pour hot water into a plastic bucket? How can one be sure that the Shilajit is not being polluted by harmful chemicals leaking from the bucket?

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  5 років тому +1

      These are ceramic steel coated containers. I don't use plastic buckets!
      The tub at the end is regrettably plastic, but the resin (at that point) was cool. This was done more for effect, I normally store in amber coloured glass jars (the first and best option). Totally correct - use of plastic (and worse still aluminium) containers is prolific in Asia. Its almost a certainty that processed Shilajit from Asia is contaminated with either plastic or aluminium (allbeit a microscopic/trace amount). Hopefully awareness of the plastic problem will be addressed over the coming years :-)

    • @Neteralchemy

      Its the shipping issue, plastic is light and strong. A good quantity of Shilajit is sent from Asia to EU and US. Its a long voyage. If glass breaks its a right-off. Plastic is amazing stuff, to be sure - but its not without its own problems. Ayurvedically; plastic would be considered an oil/oily (hence heating). Shilajit already has a heating quality, so 'plastic packing' shilajit compounds the problem. Note the block of raw material at the beginning of this video is in a plastic bag. It was shipped to me in this manner. Nightmare :-)

      I had not heard of Montana being a source. Bitumen is found in many places, but it is usually the non-water-soluble variety. Shilajatu dissolves in water. In the UK we had used a ‘medicinal tar’ about 100 years ago, so there is some historical use. It was used for the similar ailments. Its impossible to say, the only way is to taste, see, smell qualities. Its expensive to have it chemically tested so impossible to know what you have. There are (and have to be geological differences), as minerals in the direct environment differ from place to place. Russian Shilajit (I presume) is from the Altai, kind of foothills to the Himalayas. I tried Mumio, its usually has a more bitter taste ie: lacking in madur (sweet taste), also more pungent too. I think it has most of the same medicinal properties, so should be OK. $25 for 100g is about the right price, initially it was cheaper than Shilajit from Pakistan and India but people find Russian dealers easier to trade with and so prices have gone higher the demand becomes greater. I’ve just got 5kg from an Indian supplier and it was not great quality (that is to say) Shilajit content was generally good - just low on actual content. Processing lost nearly 2/3 by weight, so expensive - shipping 5kg of rocks half way round the world :-)

      Thank you for the reply, i remember my first batch of the resin, I foolishly bought from a company in the U.S. ( I liven calif.) The company used the typical pitch, that only they had the most potent resin and highest quality. Along with scare tactics saying "watch out for other co. selling inferior resin" and so on. Well, I ended up paying 65 dollars for only ten grams! but I fell for there propaganda, sadly. I've tried several companies from India. Here is my issue, I have never noticed any improvement in my well being or overall health after taking "the sought after" "wonder" resin. I feel like it would be best to be left alone (not processed) like herbs and roots and mushrooms, I.e. Chinese medicine. I feel like the actual shilaji powder should be used rather than heat it up and refine it. Keep in mind that heating or cooking always destroys the natural nutrient quality. I don't see why it would be any different with shilaji. Have you noticed a difference in any area health wise after useing the resin?

    • @Neteralchemy

      Thank you for the feedback. Its a long tale but I will shorten as much as possible. Sorry to hear about your experiences, I’m not surprised. There is allot of nonsense written about Shilajit. I can say: Shilajit has been mentioned in ancient Indian medical treaties, we know that. Its described as being of a number of types. The one rich in iron is the best quality. Unfortunately it needs purification as do a number of materials falling into the category of alchemical medicines. Traditionally its heated in water, then milk then triphala decoction (three fruits). Its then cooled and as it dries under sunlight forms a skin. Its then powdered, or in some cases mixed with additional herbs or mainly formulated with outer ingredients. Due to the terrible weather here it has to be heated to dry, but as its mainly minerals like calcium, carbon or metal like iron, boiling in water is fine, temperature never gets about 100c. The heating process also helps make it more digestible. Milk adds sweetness and helps promote strength and building of tissue. Shilajit is termed rasayana (drugs which promote longevity, health, anti-ageing etc). Its best taken long-term, over many months in small doses and stopping every few weeks. Its best taken with warm milk (this aids in its absorbsion). I saw it used regularly in Sri Lanka and India, but given mainly to patients undergoing rehabilitation after long sickness - particularly with diseases of the urinary tract. It does work, but needs proper purification and anupana (milk, warm water, honey etc). Sadly most factories do a pretty terrible job, just commercial - just trying to make profits. I usually purify even the purified stuff, you won’t believe what I pulled from the net after filtering some stuff, bits of metal, stones, sand, glass, gel, string - really sloppy work. This is why I made this video, to show how to do it properly. Any more questions feel free to ask. Sorry you’ve had a bad experience with Shilajit. It was considered by the ancient texts to be one of the great medicines.

      Yes, amazing but true: www.ironbridge.org.uk/explore/tar-tunnel/
      Victorians marketed it as a panacea for all kinds of aliments. It seems to be marketed as Bettons British Oil (a type of shale /tar/oil). Its chemically different from Shilajit but the treatment similarities are uncanny. Similarly; resins extracted from mummies (Egypt) were thought to have similar properties. Again a type of mineral pitch used to preserve the dead. There is not a huge amount of info on the UK oil - but some PDF's may be found. I'd called the museum in ironbridge and spoken with them - they confirmed its use as a medicine, at one time. You might try contacting them for more info. Currently the Tar Tunnels are closed due to restoration work.

      OK - no problem. Good luck with the local stuff, make sure
      they don't mix in a bucket of sand and avoid extracts - another tricky trick.
      Ironbridge is currently closed - but hopefully will re-open. I suspect many of
      these resins/bitumens have similar properties. If you read ancient accounts of
      Shilajit (in Ayurvedic texts) there were a number of varieties, mostly associated
      with various metals, and some described with completely different appearances.
      This all needs more investigation. Its actually a good remedy if you get the
      right stuff. Its a bit heating and drying (due to astringency) but if taken
      with sweetened warm milk, it has good rasayana effects. I hope you find some good source.

    Hello don't you think pricing of your book is on higher side it's in USD and when I convert it in to INR it damn expensive. See I understand in US that amount is quite middle ranged but not in India right?!
    See more than 50% of comments are of Indians in this video so understand that how many Indians would be willing to buy your book but your pricing takes consumer surplus level to negetive and not only that in simple he won't buy the book
    How will buy book working professional or student . Yes student how can you think I will be so free in his pocket to spend here
    See come with some innovative ways by which you reduce you pricing level
    Thank you

      Thank you for your comments. Yes, it is a problem and I do
      understand your predicament, however Rasa
      Shastra ~ The Hidden Art of Medical Alchemy is offered internationally as
      well as in India. Its is also a highly specialised book and of considerable
      size and weight (over 600 pages + hardback with colour slides). You can therefore
      imagine Asian shipping costs. In addition, even as author I must purchase from
      my publisher making any profit on re-sale. While I do receive an authors discount,
      I myself struggle to compete with Amazon.
      If I were to offer this book in rupees I’d be subsidising both purchase and
      shipping. Not a great business model, I’m sure you’d agree. With regard to
      electronic copies (PDF/ebooks) I had previously offered a set of CD ROMs which
      detailed Rasa production. These proved to be of interest but were pirated
      (alas), making me wary of electronic formats.

      So is there a option for some subsidized price for me, see I had commented so big only reason is I want to buy that book and book is being very heavy on my pockets. I hope you understand, I did enough research in market in online but no where I found a book of yours on the line of competition It's way above others. There may be really good books better than yours only reason is lake of knowledge and availability and it's because secrecy no one is ready to share the knowledge 😕

      Its a shame there is no access to this knowledge for you. India is the home of Rasa Shastra. I was able to get quite a few decent books while I was there. I am sure you'll be able to find something available in book shops in India. Good luck :-)

    How much pure shilajit u obtained from raw shilajit

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  6 років тому

      Hi, it varies from batch to batch, from raw rock its about 550g per 1kg - BUT that is highly dependant upon the sourced material, some rocks are very very low yeild, maybe 150-200g per 1kg. This tends to be the ligher coloured (sandy) stuff. The sticky, dark coloured rock is much higher. Also the sweetness of the balck rocks is better, so higher rasayana properties.

      Difficult to know, as there are so many products that claim ‘sudha’,
      but gods knows. Most of these companies do the bare minimum to clean it. Allot
      of the stuff I tested was still full of rubbish. I find its best the get the
      original stone and do it myself. Beware - as dealers are one step ahead of you
      and while they will supply the stone (begrudgedly) they don't like too. Their favourite
      trick is to supply a decent 1kg so you feel confident to buy more, then sell
      you 5kg of sand (bless em).

    Does it contain any toxic metals like lead(PB) ?and any toxic material that found in Earth crust..??

    • @Neteralchemy
      @Neteralchemy  6 років тому +2

      No, nothing seen so far in chemical testing. Of course there are trace percentages of metals - but these very small. In ancient Ayurvedic texts (Caraka Samhita) they describe Shilajit as being of three categories: 1. containing gold, 2. copper or 3. iron. Of these, Shilajit containing iron was considered highly beneficial. Its unlikely Shilajit ever contained appreciable levels of metal as described, these references maybe refer to subtle colour variations found in the resin at different altitudes or locations of the Himalayas. Of all the samples I’ve tested, no metal deposits were detected in any quantity.

      This process is correct, it’s the method used in 99% pharmacies in Indian and Sri Lanka. Traditionally this only needs to passed through fine cloth, not filter paper, it’s not coffee :-)

      Nearly all samples tested here contain similar elements. These include: sulphur (S), calcium (Ca), silicon (Si), potassium (K), carbon (C), oxygen (O), sodium (Na) and iron (Fe). Its unclear what causes the overall effect, its maybe a synergistic property of this material.
