When he said "I named it after another sword known as a dragon slayer" I’m at least 70% sure it’s referencing the sword Issei Hyoudou got in DxD _"ASCALON!"_ *_"BLAAAADE"_*
Not sure if it is the same (I dropped DxD), but they probably got the inspiration from the same place. Ascalon was Saint George's sword and according to the legend it is the blade he used to slay a dragon.
Something to keep in mind that the anime omits is that Makoto not only practiced regular archery, but also the art of combat with a bow, that is, the real archery that was used in times of war, not the modern thing that is used as a sport. .
Both comments are true. Kyūdō is the Japanese martial art of Japanese long-bow shooting. It is what we see Makoto doing back on Earth, waaaaaay back in season 1 episode 1. The light novel does specify that the level of archery Makoto uses extends beyond the modern revival version of Kyūdō done as a sport and martial art, but the art with its uses in practical, real combat. I did also read that a “kyudoka” is specifically a master of kyūdō. That places Makoto on a whole other level and adds weight to the original context of his comment. He’s not a close combat master. He’s not a sorcerer or master mage. He is a master of the bow, of kyūdō. And he didn’t reveal that card in this confrontation against the demon army and Sofia until the end and in a place away from prying eyes. 👀
So what yall are saying is when she had 2000 plus lives with her sword He went for war type of archery Then when its her alone, she is so trash that modern sports archery is good enough She is the equivalent of a dummy board for now practice
It's still so funny how unimpressed Makoto is with everything Sofia does, the disrespect she received here is not only hilarious to watch, but also well deserved. Also, is it just me or does this ep have several references to Fate? Aside from the obvious, we also saw another Lancer having a bad time.😅
Not so much "unimpressed," but rather he's learned to suppress his emotions in combat, like a true warrior. The fight in front of him has the topmost priority, he will never let the enemy find a opportunity (a lapse in judgement) to strike.
Makoto Misumi when he did as the Goddess asked "Yeah, I cleared the Fort ... off the fucking map!" (Visual Aid; ua-cam.com/video/bKEFjFTthjc/v-deo.html [I don't own linked video])
Sofia: "I am the bone of my sword..." Makoto: "First, stop it. We're not doing that. Second, you _really_ didn't think this through bringing me to where the sources of your power are all out in the open, like a field of targets. Third, I've just been playing around with you, and play time is now over."
The reason the Katana is so special is because it was made from a Japanese person, remember the hyumans in the Isekai are bootleg humans, so they aren't as strong, and Lancer turning someone into a sword makes that person's abilities your own.
Majin 魔人 Means something close to Magic/Demon and person. However, that's actually not the term being used. Majin 魔神 is used. This means Magic/Demon and god. You can sum this up as devil.

In the novel, Sofia's death was much more anticlimactic. I can see why they did it differently in the anime, it would've been cool to stick to the novel but... He used the same attack he used to destroy all the demon's thought transmission devices. I can't remember which episode it was but they definitely showed it in the anime. I know it's probably already been answered, but "Majin" is derived from "Magician." In anime, it's usually used to refer to someone with powerful magical abilities. As such, substituting the word with "devil" would not align with what a "majin" is.
the word "Ma'" in Majin can be translated into either Magic or Demonic depend on the kanji and the author specificly used "Ma" as Magic(Demonic) so it is more accurate to translate Majin as Demon-Man or "the Devil"
well in web novel it is called ascalon the same sword that saint George use but i don't know why they parodize the name when there is no copyrights about it
If I´m not mistaken, Slime uses "Majin" for any demihumans/monsters with high affinity to magic. Basically what Rimuru was before his full transformation. In a way, it combines both "sorcerer" and "demon/devil". Edit: I quickly nabbed this from Slime´s wiki: "majin: ..."Demonic Person", also known as Magic-Born, is a catchall term for intelligent Monsters" (might only apply to Slime´s world/anime.) (That said, I have no idea what the "more correct" translation would be. It´s just one of those difficult to translate words.)

The intention of that is, she should be reborn to redeem her many failures. Now she works as redemption for Makoto (against his will) in the new build palace where Mokotos parents lived.
