My favorite episode, the anime giving us flashforward of Dead end being clapped by orsted is pretty smart because when we actually saw him coming, we were scared of him, almost like his "fear curse" affected us.
When I first saw it I wasn't really a fan of it since it kinda spoiled the surprise but as I rewatched it I've gained more appreciation for the choice to start with that short in medias res to build up the tension even before Orsted appears. The only thing that this kinda negatively affects is the viewers perception and relation to Rudy. Since we already dread Orsted, just like Eris and Ruijerd, we can't really empathize with what exactly Rudy feels when he first meets him. To us he seems clueless, reckless and naive because we already know that shit will go south so most viewers tend to give Rudy more shit for how he handled this encounter than he deserves, imo. The main reason Rudy was less wary and wanted to ask Orsted for info because he is very serious and desperate now to find his remaining family and friends who got teleported and from that perspective he is pretty commendable for asking Orsted about info he might have on that. He was just very unlucky that the one time he didn't let other people's preconceptions and steroetypes influence how he treats another person (like with Ruijerd) that it actually got him killed since it made Orsted very suspicious of him.
@@Jakokokoroko Exactly, I always thought it was weird how everyone when reacting to this was giving Rudy a lot of shit, I mean yeah it didn't work out but really, besides Eris and Ruijerd's extreme fear there was no reason for Rudy to be super on guard.
I dont even read the LN, but I love how the anime made it clear(I sure hope lol) that Nanaoshi is also from another world. She is not scared of Orsted and her name is japanese unlike any other character we have seen so far.

@@eriksantos418 That's what i never understood either. Yeah Rudy (and Nanahoshi) weren't affected by Orsted's curse, but that doesn't change the fact that Rudy should have put two and two together.... It's different in the manga where Orsted actually is a bit friendlier (until hearing about the Man-God), but doesn't change the fact that if Ruijerd and Eris is that scared and that silent.... Rudy should have at least been smarter about things.
@@DarkFrozenDepthsActually his fate was decided once Orsted asked him about the man god since if Rudeus lied he would’ve gotten his ass whooped anyways. He should’ve stayed quiet from the beginning.
Its been portait to us that Ruijerd is one of the strongest character we came across in the story so far and to see him got defeated so easily was really shocking
I also like the detail that Ruijerd did a quick spear attack when he and Eris were practicing, and you see him going all with the same attack, showing how much he can regulate his own power
@@AnoAno94 The LN goes into very nice details. But basically it was Rudeus being stubborn and desperate to hurt Orsted in any way possible. As you know purple fire means its hotter than red, in the LN they go into Rudeus monologue more, about how he was imagining a nuclear bomb when he created that purple fireball, how he used wind magic to pump air into his lungs, how he used earth magic to let him get into position and as a recoil protector and so on. His was just super desperate to hit Orsted
@@valhallakombi7239 To be clear as I've seen a lot of people misunderstand this elsewhere, imagery does not equal power. The spell was incredible, potentially world power level as Orsted mentioned, but far from an actual nuke. Rudeus has to understand the mechanisms he is manipulating to work his magic (at least chantless), and put simply his education only goes up to Japanese middle school + what he's picked up in this world. Enough for more oxygen = hotter fire but not atomic manipulation. It doesn't REALLY matter but it's best to nip power scalers in the bud if at all possible, lest they get more annoying later on.
@@Reshapable It would have been on the same level as a nuke though, despite not having atomic manipulation. Between the mana supplying it (which is on par with one of the supposed gods), and the intense heat, it would have been as destructive as an atomic bomb, without actually being an atomic bomb. Enough mana and heat would still replicate the same heat and energy as the sun, without actually being the sun. Point is that Rudy would have still been capable of blowing those mountains apart, and potentially some of the surrounding area. "Power" is not definitive from a single source. Just because it's said to be on the same level as an atomic bomb, doesn't mean it IS an atomic bomb.... Rudy still would be capable of the same destruction that an atomic bomb would do, it's just that it's still nothing close compared to Orsted who is already a planet buster at minimum if Orsted goes all out.
@@Reshapable You basically hit the nail on the head. As far as we know for the entire novel, no character is capable of elemental manipulation on a scale even remotely as small as that. What we do know is that the visualisation is a reflection of the actual effect of the spell itself. Rudeus imagined a nuclear-scale explosion, and, using his knowledge of fire and explosives, the best way to do that would be to generate a lot of fire and shove a lot of oxygen into it. The anime also puts effort into expressing this by showing the change in colour of the fireball as its temperature increases
