Wow!!!! Salsa forever, love this you guys are amazing. Imagine using this in a march? I wonder how many marchers would have broken hips from trying to march in time with a piece like this, gotta love please do more, Latin rules as do you...
Fab jam here! If budget ever allows me a Reference Series kit, I'm definitely planning on the FFX-1410 - most drumkit snares don't have a gut option and I'd rather have the lug strength to crank the snare drum past the highest tom's sweet spot.
dang...ScoJo made that 14 sing....i dont even tune my 13x10 that high...sounds absolutely amazing. Head combo? I run Evans Hybrid Grey on top, with a Remo Falams II on the bottom
hey anyone, im trying out for snare as a junior in one month.. i am pretty good and can play most drum corps licks, the only thing i need to work on is that I crunch my left hand diddles a little bit and marching.... i know how to fix my marching... but can you give me advice on my diddles??
Not sure if it's too late- but the best way to work on diddles is accenting partials of the two notes (Rr Ll Rr Ll etc...) and just taking them slow (R R L L R R L L R R L L RR LL) work on those left hand chops (8s you know the drill) that kind of stuff! Best of luck with your audition! Hope you make it! -Sean Bowers, 7th Regiment drum line
thanks... my tryouts went great.... i have more auditions this week but im pretty sure i will be one of 3 snares... i was kind of worried becuz this freshman was kept one snare the whole 3 days but not so much... thanks a lot... it really helped
XxWickedDrumzxX without looking at your hands its hard to fix from the comments section. there are a lot of possibilities as to why your crushing them. if you put up a video f you playing people could give you good advice. but the best solution i can tell you is to do a double beat exercise really really slow...like where they feel like 8th notes and spend quality time speeding them up. you may be able to play dci licks but that doesnt mean you can play them well, not to hurt feelings but its just a fact. take your time in learning how to produce good quality spacial diddles.
thanks.. ive been practicing and the gotten wayyy better... my instructor told me the only thing i need to work on is timing... plus im kinda worried that he will put a freshman than cannot diddle, has terrible technique, and checks out too much... im worried because he did that last year... so thanks but i think its favoritism and not really how we play.. so thanks
XxWickedDrumzxX not to be mean but i would take someone who can play checks in time more than someone who can diddle, just work on timing too. take a sixteenth note check and take out a sixteenth note in each measure...so 1e&a ect. as the check then take out beat one, so..e&a then the "e" then the & then the "a" idk if that makes sense same thing with triplets. and always play with a met, i never did my freshman year and was really upset because i could ram notes all day but i couldnt play in time with a snare line, why i didnt make it. but DM me your email and i could send you a triplet grid exercise from spirit, it helped me alot!
I myself enjoy pro marks just because of their durability and also the fact that they have really good tenor sticks. Along with that comes amazing quality control and just a good feel overall. Either way, I'm not biased, I've marched at least a season using Innovatives, Vics, and Pro-Marks, but Vic's and Pro Marks come pretty close, but I just prefer pro marks.
Actually not even true. I asked him at DCI championships about this and he said they really didn't care about the sticks he used, he was playing softly and not hardly.
Jesus tuned that drum himself
ScoJo's hands/chops are unbelievable. So smooth and relaxed.
How did they fit that much greatness in the room?!
Lalo and his wife helped our high school line out my senior year. Very nice guy. Fun to see him on here.
I love how much the guy playing timbale gets into it.
Christian Boose lalo Davila
Every player in this performance has great skill, groove, rhythm, and soul. Amazing.
Pearl. The ONLY marching snare to carry.
Scott Johnson of the Blue Devils infuses his style of drumming into a Latin ensemble with Lalo Davila.
Awesome! I also love the choice of stick!
Promark = THE BEST DRUMSTICK ever
+Ballard Mayes More than likely he was using DC17s, this was produced three years ago.
nope It' style no stick's
The definition of musical versatility. True percussionist right there.
Man. The real highlight of this vid is DeBerry in that cowbell. Outstanding.
I like the part from 0:01 - 3:48
I met scojo and lalo this year in Dayton lalo is awesome he help me get my singles faster and scojo signed my sticks he was cool too

Probably the best and maybe only time I’ve heard a good use of a marching snare in music.
I love latin percussion ! nice performance !

Are there sheets for this anywhere?
What size marching snare is that??
It is a 14x10 Championship Maple FFX Snare Drum...
I don't think that they had this in mind when they invented traditional grip... but they totally should have...
3,000 views and 4 comments! I guess everyone was left speechless...
Wouldn't surprise me
That *snare player* is Scott Johnson... herp derp
my question is why is he using what looks like pro mark sticks? why not use, oh idk, his own vic firth stick! maybe im just a vic firth loyalist...
He has his own pro mark you know...
I myself enjoy pro marks just because of their durability and also the fact that they have really good tenor sticks. Along with that comes amazing quality control and just a good feel overall.

He's with Promark and has been for a few years. That's old news man! Lol

Is there anyways that there is music dor this? Lol
Just wanna get up and start doing the tango
scojo looks like a steven segal on drums lol!
They're playing in a studio so Scojo has to use toothpicks
my sisters tech :)
Actually not even true. I asked him at DCI championships about this and he said they really didn't care about the sticks he used, he was playing softly and not hardly.
Wat the heck are timbalas
think they should start a kitchen career - outfit s already ok, chopping fast, trying put some flames under their potts, what tehey need is vegetables
hoola xD
See i knew marching percussion could find a good use other than marching percussion.
:-)
CHRIS DEBERRY!
...system blue?..........
No, the video features 100% Pearl products... :)
LATIN :D
Scojo would make this a Scojo like and would play it 400 times faster no prob haha XD
add some tenors
Snare is great, but doesn't belong with other instruments.
