i swear some of these dudes look like they're 14 and others look like they're 35
Beach Dreams bruh I know
It’s cuz they are. Brandon Olander was 15 here I think, he just aged out out at BD this year at 19? Not sure something like that
He marched academy in 13 and blue devils 14-16 and 18-19 so he’s marched since he was old enough
@@shariqarain you don't age out until 21-22 lol what are you talking about he was 16 or 17 here
@Awkward productivity not true. minimum age is 14
is that the same brandon from 4 years ago that played with BD when he was 12?
Yeah
Yep
Yeah
Yah
powuhh yes it is
Joey Staab was a snare tech for Clovis North High School, and his former students thought that by continuously yelling "JOoey StAAAb" after every exercise would make him break.
Did they not like him?
We love Joey! He is so hilarious, that guy. We miss him dearly though... He said that he got a job opportunity elsewhere, and he moved on!
Aaron Reyes yeah he techs at Leigh highschool now
Thought they were saying Joey Styles, I'm a little sad now
I marched with Joey! I did BDB 2011 if my memory serves correct that’s when I met him. I was on the contra line
how are they so clean it's amazing
They aren't humans they are robots.
Base line are the craziest counters💪🏽
So CLEAN
Brand Olander was apart of the highest scoring DCI Show in history? Makes sense.
Here before this gets recommend it to everybody
I was literally looking at a Jeff Bezos video, I don’t understand how I got here.
Ima 22 year old snare drum retired section leader. I came back to this video just to see this flawless technique.🔥🔥🔥
anybody else notice how Keelan cut his eyes at the guy that walked up behind him...lol 0:33
my drum-line directer is the directer for the b line for blue devils
I would sure love the sheet music to this
www.snarescience.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18403
The name is In the title.
I played this so many time in the pit room in high school, fuck
a performance is amaziiinngg...
one million views oh my god
Corp style drumlines can strike something up easily
Are they using Promark Dc50 or Promark Dc17 Scott Johnson?
We use the dc-17s! B corps uses the dc50s. Love both of them. :)
***** what would you recommend for beginners?
:30 yoooo its Keenan waddup
that 16 year old dude is in this. thats awesome
❤️❤️❤️
This is a legitimate fucking song
What tempo is this
Comfy tempo.
110 or 115 bpm I think
A wee bit more practice and maybe they could visit Scotland lol great stuff guys cheers
Do you know how difficult it is to do this clean?
Very
Cool
This goes hard as fuck and I'm not sure why.
They look like they’re tryna summon a cult or something lmao
this goes hard as fuck
ok so Brandon is in this one. But was he on blue devils 2017? Cause I have not seen him in one video.
he marched bd from 14-16, took a year off/something of the sorts, came back in 18 and 19.
@@lmaoitsmee1812 in an interview he said that he was burned out after the 2016 season and wasn’t gonna march anymore but really regretted it near the start of the 17 Season. He was set to be an injury replacement in case in case someone went down on snare
0:30 peep Keelan Tobia bottom right corner
isn't that 2nd to last snare drummer the kid that was too young at first to join, but then he got older and was able to?i think i had seen it on the news or something like that. if so whats his name (sorry for poor description, just going off of memory) ~update: Never mind i found it, in case anyone else was wondering here it is ua-cam.com/video/sx4zAnVDV9Y/v-deo.html
Triumph HD old news...
Brandon olander
Triumph HD yes
there is no age requirement for dci so he was never too young to join
+Axus Drumming ScoJo felt he was too young for BD, and didnt think he was ready for the activity. So he marched Academy at 15 years old to prove ScoJo wrong. Plus, many top 12s wont accept under 16, unless under super specific circumstances.
You best know whos style it is.
Why do some of the bass drum mallets look bent
+Dylan Evans It's just the lighting and exposure on the camera. It makes the tips of the mallets disappear into the head.
need to have that serious face
Check out home girl on Bass #1....when they get to that jam section she gets groovy in the pocket man! Yo, thats whats up!
2:34 Joey Staab
Does any one know where I could start playing snare. I live in New Zealand and we don't have many people who teach how to play like this
Keep watching videos of these "DCI" groups and take note of everything they do, try to match them perfectly, but most importantly start slow.
Jonathan Ostrander thanks I'll try
Jasmine Ward Always practice with a met.
vicfirth.com/40-essential-rudiments/
If that doesnt work cause youre in New Zealand, just google "Vic Firth 40 Rudiments". I literally started like 3 weeks ago and its helping me a lot.
Uppish awsome I will lol at it thanks
I really miss the dynasty drums that sounded terrible
What is tempo?
+Dr. Oshawott Thank you!
みつを neat trick for in the future, play around with the metronome. Test a tempo by pressing play on the metronome on beat with whatever song you're listening to. If the metronome beat starts dragging, then the tempo you picked is too slow, and if it's rushing then it's too fast
Love dem Pearls tho
They’re trying to play 8-8-16
BRANDON IS THERE
Starscream50592 Playz we know buddy
so this is the thing that all the freshman at my school try to play.
This isn't hard, they should be able to play it
Just requires some chops if you wanna play it up to tempo.
they try...its easy im 14 and learn this at 13
^^^cool kid alert
Try to play? Ha.
What tempo is this????
TheLegendaryGamer 130 bpm
Comfy
they look like they’re having fun
Is this sarcasm or your really think they're having fun
Akame Ga kill they're having fun, they just have to look professional.
Play a warm up 400 times. You don't do it for fun after a while.
Thats manners
Chris C ya but they arent dreading it, theyre ‘warming up’ thats litterally the whole point, they know its good for them and they enjoy it im sure
RIP the Pearl drums.
porque?
@@hectorzelaya5443 ya no usan esa marca
oohh cual usan ahora?
@@hectorzelaya5443 usan system blue. Es una compania que les ayuda
Ikr now they got those trashy as system blue drums
I don't understand how anyone can be that clean without a met
Caleb Byrd 300 billion hours of practice
Caleb Byrd Metronomes is basically cheating in my book. I never use them and don't plan on starting. Playing on time should be an automatic doing. Using a machine to help you with that is useless. To me at least lol
Michael Solis if you plan on marching anywhere get used to hearimg cause you dont start off with playing in perfect time thats why mets are used not for cheating but hearing what playing in perfect time feels like then memorizimg ehat it feels like thats why they dont do lots with mets at finals
Michael Solis how would it be cheating lol
Caleb Byrd are you like a beginner or something lol
Anyone notice the badass way they mark time with one foot?
Tristan Bach it's called pulsing a lot of bands are starting to do it
Tristan Bach I do it
It's just pulsing 1 and 3
I see you
everyone does it now
JOEY STAAAAAAAB
And this is their warm up, neat
MY BOY BRANDON OLANDER KILLING IT!!!
I figured out last night the importance of warm ups. I tried to play a book report thing and my forearms cramped up.
1:09 ... damn
The actual part there isn't hard to play if you have decent chops but, even though there was a teeeennnnyyy bit of dirt, the group as a whole sounded super clean and that is what amazed me.
:)
Badger Yo Homie x
Actually there was some haha, listen closer
Is I'm the only one hearing that grove part in there? That shit rock
Keyvon Gardner I hear it! Sick!
Legit have no idea what u said or what that means but I totally agree!!
This the cleanest drumline that I ever heard in my life. Major props.
The snare drummer that they zoomed into in the beggining looked depressed
Clovis was pretty hot.
Brandon Gedalje WHAT ITS ACTUALLY BRAND THE CENTER SNARE DO YOU HSVE AN INSTA YOUVE BEEN IN LIKE THE BEST YEARS OF BD
@@briancantero6123 lol
Kyle Cruz He wasn't depressed. He was just thinking about hitting the gym more often cause it's hard carrying all those gold medals year after year.
@@gunner-qf9eh that’s pretty good ngl lol
1:46 my dude bowing down to the greatest drumline ever
Love that keelan is there watching
Every Dci line I see they some arm for their left. I know it's natural but my instructor wants me to use all wrists. How do keep my left arm from moving on diddles and accents.
shaquan talbert It really depends on the tempo you're going at. At higher tempos, you're going to want to use a bit of arm for your diddles and accents. But when you're at a moderate to low tempo, use your wrists instead of using unnecessary muscles.
its called traditional grip, you need to learn match grip before it though, traditional is harder btw
i totally read this wrong lol, yeah wrist for diddles i guess, but if your making big accents you want to use a little forearm
It's important to make sure your strokes are coming primarily from your wrists. Thats not to say that there isn't arm involved though. Your arm should be able to move naturally. Using the weight of your wrist and the back of your hand is the best way to get a sense of power and sound quality in your playing. Hope this helps!
+shaquan talbert in order for your left stick to get better diddles and accents, especially at higher tempos, you kinda have to use some arm. your technique shouldn't be 100% wrist, nor 100% arm but a comfortable mix of the two; even in your right hand. it should feel comfortable and smooth. next time your at your drum, take your hand and hit the drum while making your arm look like a wet noodle.
that bassline is one of the best ive ever heard.
In case your wondering why they looks so mad it’s because they’re concentrating
Most disciplined drum line I’ve seen. No rocking heads, all eyes forward, this is drum line!!
Well it is the blue devils
Actually rocking your head is called pulsing and is a good thing.
@@drummersnare6276 I mean you can see they're all pulsing with their right leg. Normally keeping time would suffice too. Really an aesthetic choice tbh.
@@Alex-mi9wq One of my old high school drumline instructors Pete Sapadin from the blue devils, really engrained in us to nod our heads to keep pulse. It does really help
@@drummersnare6276what school? He’s the percussion instructor at mine also. I’m from Los Osos high school
I like the thousand yard stare as they concentrate. I wonder what an MRI would look like as they play.
0:31 keelan tobia
Joey style???
Joey Staaaaaaab.
+BornVillain who is that?
+Will Cochran The guy it zooms in on at 1:16.
I like the part where they played the drums
where does bd constantly find these phenom asian girl first basses. i feel like they have had 1 my entire life lol
I'm pretty sure this girls latina but haha you so right about that lol
Fr tho! I just realized that.
1:05 "while everybody's like NOOOOOOO..."
Death Grips?
When the quads and the bases synch up its magic
sooo, what up with Joey style??
Its Joey Staab he was on the snareline that year
Josh Tolentino pretty sure it's joey style
that's my band room
I’ve had this in my recommended for years but I never click on it, well fuck.
I unliked this video, just to like it again.
its hilarious at 2x speed
Hogarth McMallian LoL it is. 3000 beats a minute.
1:20- 1:32 sounds like a helicopter
James, the second tenor from the left is our Drum tech at our high school! He is amazing!

(Say in a Mr. Burns voice) good, Good
Is this the Henry Clay High School in Lexington Kentucky?
They're facility at HCHS is not that nice, plus this is in California. Btw I live near lex so I know
No, it's the Blue Devils from Concord California, look them up sometime, they're incredibly impressive
***** thank you.
this school is Buchanan high, clovis ca.
I wish fellow Kentuckian
Rip to Pearls.. ): they sound so good!
I went to this this and got to take a picture with Keelan and Chris Drummer. :3
Them tenor are killing it
Blue Devils my favorite drum corp since 2014
The hairlines😂
1:59 what's this stroke called?
Pretty sure its a single stroke 5
Mr Montage it’s a four stroke ruff..
ABSOLUTELY CARS it’s 5. O can confirm from a transcription by KEELAN TOBIA himself, and by slowing down the video to where it’s more audible.
@@ShadfishX it also is sometimes called a sentry note
Who’s here from Terry Davis?
Was looking through the divine right playlist. Hurts bad man.
I actually know what happened to these Pearl drums. Our school in South Carolina called Wren High school bought them for like 36,000 dollars. If you look up any of our competitions from 2018 you'll see them.
Inferno heck yeah, SC schools rule!
i love how uniform the tenor stick heights are really just a perfect cheery on top
I spy Keelan 0:29
Go ahead to bass!!!!!!!
The guys of Pollution by Slipknot
IT FINALLY HIT 1MIL
0:38 what call of this technique
Pretty sure its moeller
I couldn't hear the snares with the damn tenors
Peep keelan tobia sitting down on the right towards the end
Does anyone have the sheet music? The only thing I can't make out is the flam part, everything else is okay to remember and see what they're doing.
Two Swiss Triplets into a Flam Tap. Similar to a lick they have in BD Flams.
Just watch and learn.... not to hard to learn...
+Erich14 he's not wrong
