    "The thing about having a handmade craft is something about [each project] just takes you right back to who you were when you were making it." 🥰love this sentence!

    That’s so fun! I knit my first hand spun up almost immediately and honestly the only thing that saved it is that it felted a little because not only was it my first but I also left it as a single 😂

    I’m taking my first spinning lesson tomorrow! I have to tell you that you are a big part of that. If all goes well I will be ordering a wheel. Just felt like I wanted to tell you. THANK YOU!

    I love every time I see you pop into my notifications. Your energy is contagious and have brought me back to my wheels. You should definitely put the yarn you would just give away into your shop to sell. Just a thought.

    I have a nano. I’ve only spunk 4 singles bobbins. Plying scares me haha 😆 and some of my singles are so jacked as they are my first spins ever.

    So loving all the Shave 'Em to Save 'Em plugs! I learned so much about processing and working with a wide variety of fleeces from it and discovered my beloved Jacob. Such a wonderful program m

    Thank you! This video makes me so happy. I am a knitter and my favourite thing is undyed natural wool too, I love how their colour varies and the extra 'life' they bring to my project. Every yarn you spun is so beautiful to look at, so many wonderful fibers! Love your work, you make me want to try spinning myself.

    You don’t like the wound up sw merino/nylon? I can’t put enough of that in my shop updates. People go bananas for that softness. (She says as she spins Southdown babydoll from mellyknits)

    i'm not (yet?) a spinner, just a knitter, but really enjoy your color sense (yay rich and moody colors!), hearing about the different qualities of all the various breeds, and when all the sheep & lambs start emerging from their barns next month here in Iceland, i'll definitely be looking at them with a slightly different eye...

    Now wait a minute. I was literally starting a crochet blanket project right before I saw this video come up. I have actually been crocheting all week. I'm so happy you're practicing the craft.
    I would love to see more self care idea videos. Or a nice guided meditation. 😊

    Thud! My heart is so happy lol. All the glorious spinning! My first yarn was done at a spinning retreat on a borrowed EEW nano using rolags not meant for a newbie lol so it’s atrociously beautiful art yarn lol thick n thin over/under (both) spun loveliness! Love the stash!

    that bright yarn, blueberry cobbler, is fabulous! can you see it as the CC in a colorwork yoke? maybe w/ black MC? all your multi-color yarns are so beautiful i'm *almost* tempted to start spinning.

    I love seeing the progress! All of your spins are so beautiful, and it always is a nice dose of reassurance to see successful spinner's starting points, so thank you for sharing. Hopefully, I'll get to the point where I can knit with my own hand-spun. Just a matter of finding the time to consistently practice.

    I think even your first skeins are gorgeous! Lovely, lovely work! Oh, I remember seeing your and another podcaster's Harlow hats and commenting that I wanted to learn Brioche knitting but was intimidated, and you both encouraged me to just do it, and I finally did! I'm working on a Brioche hat now (a free pattern) and I'm so happy I met at least one goal for 2023.

    This was such a fun tour of your hand-spun yarn. RE selling your yarn. If you want to destash some one your yarns but don't feel comfortable with selling it at market rate because you're unsure about the quality, you could put them into raffles for charity. You could ask for feedback to get a better sense of if your yarns might be sellable. Just a thought.

    • @stitchesandstarlight
      @stitchesandstarlight  Рік тому

      It’s not so much that I’m unsure of the quality of the yarns - I’ve had my spinning assessed by many a discerning eye - it’s just I am hesitant to add commercial value to a hobby that is my passion project which is why I give it away as gifts instead. But I think it might end up getting sold so it ends up in the hands of people who can actually use it and make it into something lovely.

    For your chaotic first-timer yarn, I suggest using it as the weft in a weave! I'm pretty sure you've said you have a rigid heddle loom. It could make a cushy memento and a pretty scarf.

    • @stitchesandstarlight

      I do, I use storage bobbins from the Bobbins Up line but they no longer make them so I’m babying them to make sure they don’t break.

    When a spin doesn’t work out, can you recycle it in any way? Or is it just done. (Just wondering if it could be carded again and then spun into a new skein)

    • @stitchesandstarlight
      @stitchesandstarlight  Рік тому

      It’s very hard to both unply and then unspin wool back to its beginner state so once a spin is finished, it’s kind of finished. There are a number of things you can do with it but going back all the way to the beginning isn’t really possible.

    Hi Tazhi! What a great inspiring episode for a new-ish spinner! Question for you - I would love to hear how you sample before you spin. Do you sample? How much of your fiber do you typically sample? I’m concerned that I’ll waste a whole bunch of beautiful fiber on sampling! Any good resources for a good sample process? Thanks so much!

    Loved seeing all of your handspun and the journey! You mentioned that you wash and set your yarns before skeining and measuring yardage. Can you explain how you do that? I've been trying to figure out the best way to measure my yardage for my handspun so that I know what projects I can use it in!

    • @stitchesandstarlight
      @stitchesandstarlight  Рік тому

      I skein my yarns before washing and setting them and I use a Dreaming Robots yardage counter to track my yardage as I skein my yarns.

    Thanks for sharing! That teal and copper near the beginning is totally my colors. Let me know if you're ever interested in selling it ;) . Spinning is an amazing journey. I love that you jumped right into chain plying early on. I did the same thing! I hated (at the time) barber pole yarns. I hadn't yet discovered how wonderful they could be knit up and I wanted to keep all the gorgeous colors together. I've been spinning for nearly 10 years now and am finally in the middle of my first fractal spin.

    Great to see your progress in skeins! I have my first handspun, knitted up and mounted on a board. I tried prepping fleeces but didn’t get on with it, combing hurts my hands 😝 and I can’t hand card fibre I like to spin. Your drum carding looks amazing though, I think I could spin one of those batts 😍🐑

    Really enjoyed seeing your hand spun stash. I was inspired to learn to spin by how much I love Spincycle yarns. I’ve been knitting for years and never ran across a yarn that made me want to learn to spin. My mother in law gave me her vintage wheel which I have since had repaired so it actually works. Enjoying the journey. Thank you for your very encouraging episode.

    Love seeing how many different types of fibres you've worked with Tahzi! Do you keep a list of all the places you've sourced your fibre from anywhere? I'm just getting into spinning myself after knitting forever and have been finding it hard to find places to source future projects. You've got me extremely inspired and humbled to learn through the process. I did a tiny spin yesterday and felt good by the end. I learnt SO much from it! It was very meditative!

    Perfect timing for this one! I have been very curious how your spinning progressed. It's very encouraging and fun to see. I love hearing the particulars of each challenge. I am on my fifth ply and knitting with my 4th finished yarn. My short forward skeins are getting more consistent but now I am trying to spin woolen long draw unsuccessfully. I am just getting the hang of my spindles. It really is a journey. Thanks for sharing yours!
