- A great tune which has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years. It is somewhat unique in my repertoire as it is possible the only tune that I have received tuition on other than from my father. I was lucky a few years ago to be able to go over it with a man who has specialised in the tune's playing, Iain MacFadyen, at his home in Kyle of Lochalsh.
The Lowland Captain referred to is General Sir John Cope, whose forces were defeated by the Jacobite Army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart at the Battle of Prestonpans in September of 1745.
Hey Johnnie Cope are you wauking yet,
Or are your drums a- beating yet?
If you were wauking I would wait,
Tae gang tae The Coals in the morning!
