@@jamesrevels oh yes it seems neat but the magnas just have a special place in my heart. I ride a 1900cc roadliner and I'd trade it in the very first second a modern v65 Magna came out.
I find it funny how many VTX owners are pressed about how a 25 yr old 750 bike is out running 1800 10 yr old cruisers. He didn’t miss a shift and I promise you we ran way more than 1/4 mile
I had a 1982 Honda V45 Magna in San Diego about 1990-3. After the passing of my mother, I needed to get out alone and think. The bike was perfect for that. I took solo trips up the Coast Highway, and to the Grand Canyon. My brother had a V45 Sabre, and we drove down the Baja coast together. I also commuted to school and work daily in SD traffic. Only bike I've ever ridden. I haven't ridden any motorcycle since selling her. I miss that bike. Your video really brings back memories--that sound, especially when you're accelerating up to highway speed. I took the baffles out to make her loud! I never raced. I was a cruiser at heart. My brother raced his Sabre with the same engine.
2 of my top 5 bikes. Both have classic styling. The Magna has a little 70s chopper look. The VTX reminds me of a Heritage Soft Tail but with more horses and that smooth Shaft Drive. Ride on!
Not sure how big you are but the vex rider was 2 people in one, which makes a huge difference. I seen a VTX 1800 tuned with a programmer and cold air intake and it was a monster. I had a stock M109 R and it pulled away from me like I had hit my brakes. A guy riding with us had a generation 1 V Max and at 150 the old X was still with it. Take off was limited on the VTX by the low rev limiter, but from 2nd on, it was a beast of a motorcycle. I’ve had a stock VTX before my 9 and the 2000cc Kawasaki after that. Years earlier I’ve owned the DOHC CB 750, GoldWingsfrom 1100 to 1800cc, but my favorite bike of all still is the VTX 1800. Just does everything well and will eat both the V45 and V65 Magnas alive on high gear roll one, rode with them as well. Love the Magnas, love the inlines and the Goldwings, but the freakish torque the VTX has is addictive, though the 9 was a freakish beast itself but that is another story. Nice Magna you have, be safe!!
He may be a lot bigger than I am, but his bike has twice the displacement and makes 107 hp and 120 torque where I make 80 hp and 50 torque. I know weight is a big factor, but he has twice the engine I have
@@jamesrevels I realized the X makes a good bit more power, but I really feel like you aren't grasping the weight difference here. Its not just 20, 30 or even 100lbs. The best part is that this isn't even the fastest Magna they made. The 84-86 magna 700 pulled 5 more horses and a bit higher redline, and the magna 1100 of the same years made over 100 horses and was the fastest production bike of all time when it came out.

I’m not saying the VTX isn’t a nice bike, I like them, just not the bike for me. The good thing about the Magna is I can take a 500 mile road trip, and still be quick. I love the sound and it’s not the worse thing on a trip. Definitely not a touring bike by no means. I’m actually taking it on an 800 mile road trip in September
@@jamesrevels Both are nice bikes. But they have their uses. If i was 5-3 i 160 pounds man that rides alone...I would prefer a magna. Specially in the city. But in my case I'm 6-3 220 pounds...if i sit a woman in the back and take the highway. I want a Vtx 1800. It is really a matter of how and what for....you end up using the machine. :) Good Luck
Best thing to do is find a wiring diagram and start narrowing down the system. Does it crank? Is it getting spark? Does nothing happen? Whichever system isn’t working just get a multimeter and a test light and start seeing where your losing signal
check out your voltage regulator/rectifier. They go out leaving your battery either dead or in my case, overcharged and led to a dead bike with a boiling battery off of the highway - let things cool, swapped batteries (cranked up immediately) to get home, then changed out the r/r and no issues since. Other commonly missed things: if your throttle is sticking and neither cable is damaged you probably need to loosen your throttle pull cable. And if you cant pull the clutch and crank the bike (with kickstand raised) in any gear, your clutch safety switch went out or needs to have its contacts cleaned. Reeeeeally sucks to stall and have to hunt for neutral quickly and A LOT of magna owners believe they HAVE to (they don't, its actually a designed safety feature to be able to quickly restart the bike. Some bypass the switch, but I do not recommend doing so as you could then crank your bike in gear without pulling the clutch at all and watch your bike try to jump forward and fall over lol
I know this is an old video, but the new Rebel 1100 is reminiscent of the Magna. Sport bike twin with a 270 degree crank, and it moves with 85 horsepower. Comes close but not the same.
I don’t know anything about them. According to 0-60 times it’s 1/4 time is 12.4, my fastest on the magna is 12.3 so it would definitely be a really good race and would depend on rider
what's your gas mileage? I remember getting over 100 miles to the tank but nowadays I only get around 60 but I only take it out for errands and to grab a quick bite around town now
Just looked at a 87 magna the other day and I decided it’s be a good 1st motorcycle at 17 years old. Anyone have any advice maintenance wise on these things?
I'm still rocking an 84 magna V45. Abslutly love it but I'm looking to upgrade for a more comfortable ride. And The bike I wanna upgrade to is the 1800.
Are you referring to a throttle assist? Little different than a true cruise control but yes, they're great for long road trips!! Nice little growl on that Magna. Can you please tell me where you got that waterproof (magnetic?) cell phone tank case? I could really use one for long trips. Thanks for a cool video!
Think it’s called a throttle lock. They are $19 on temu. Copy of the expensive $109 dealies. I love my actual cruise control on my bike. We don’t have any hills so I dunno how it would do.
Que hermoso es el sonido, el placer de correr, la adrenalina, la potencia 😭😭😭😭😭😭. casi lloro de tristeza por no poder tener una moto de ese calibre 😿. pero algún día lograre comprarme una, lograre mi sueño.
My boss has a 1980 V65 Magna. That thing is stupid fast. Maybe it can't beat a modern 1000cc+ crotch rocket, but it can leave almost anything else behind. And it's 40 years old. Just amazing bikes.
Yes, I am lighter than my buddy and I have a lighter bike, but he also has more than twice the engine size that I have. 300 lbs difference isn’t enough to matter for that big of a gap. 100 lbs will generally increase 1/4 mile time by .1 seconds. That’s more than a .3 second gap
The VTX shouldn't be able to touch the 750, they are only slightly slower in the 1/4 then the V65. Now I'm talking about the original 750 Magnas, don't know much about the later versions. You also need some one who can handle it.
I used to have a 2009 Honda VTX 1800 F. It only has five gears. When you’re in fifth at around 88 miles an hour, if you fully twist the throttle, that thing will take off like shifting from 3rd to 4th. I sold the bike, never should have and purchased a 2nd gen, 2014 Honda Valkyrie. I don’t regret purchasing the Valkyrie but, I should have never sold the VTX.
If you're in a pinch bro you can take a rubber band or anything for that matter and place it in between the throttle and the casing...bam cruise control!!!!
yeah you may have pulled out in front, but he probably didn't he was racing. that little beginner bike was wrapped up in the red line. that 1800 was probably running 3 grand. but the camera work made it look impressive anyhow.
🤔 we was literally stopped in the middle of the highway and he done the 3 honks. How would he not know we was racing? He is the one that initiated it 😬 VTX owners are really pressed about this video for some reason 🤣
I test drove a Magna back in the day and was very impressed. I went with a sport bike but I could definitely make room in the garage for one of those little sleepers. I would love to see one go against the Vulcan S, the Magna sounds quicker through the gears than the Vulcan does on its videos. I'd be willing to bet $20 on the Magna.
Just based off of 0-60times.com, the Magna is about a second quicker in the 1/4 mile. Take that as you will though, a lot depends on the rider. This bike is very quick for its age and was one of the fastest cruiser bikes in the 90s
@@jamesrevels IMHO it is a novel, under rated and under appreciated motorcycle. Since I got my driving license in 1974 (yup) I have owned over 30 motorcycles. My present bike is a 2003 ZX9R, another under rated motorcycle that I am extremely attached to, but it's not as rare as the last generation Magna. Safely enjoy your riding James, cool bike!
Swap riders and the Magna will lose. That guy on the 1800 is a big boy. Add passengers and gear and the 1800 wins. And better mpg on the 1800 to boot. Thank you for the video. I was torn on which bike to buy prior to this video.
The magna handles a passenger and gear just fine. I have since even pulled a trailer with it. For a long trip with gear and a passenger the VTX is a better choice, but the magna is a different class. That’s like comparing a dual sport to a super sport.
lol it is one thing to think something.... by the numbers, not a chance in hell my friend. Not to mention your top speed is almost 20mph slower with 13 less hp. Your bike does 0-60 in 5.92 seconds for a 14.26 qtr mile time at 88.12 mph. My 94 Magna 750 does 0-60 in 3.9 for a 12.9 second qtr mile at 103 mph producing over a 1/3 of G force more acceleration (it also reaches 0-60 approximately 28 meters sooner in terms of distance traveled). Maybe if they miss a shift and your front sprocket is a tooth small, you might catch the jump for the first couple feet ;)
Yeah.. my friend has a ll00 vt.. 86.. my magna is 85.. he loves the speed and quickness on my magna.. but he loves his vt.. long range torque. Sadly we both haven't ridden in a few years.

Got an '02 Magna with an electrical problem. It just quit on me and I can't figure out what the problem is.
Thanks guys.
I have a vn2000 with cobra exhaust no baffles big Barron air filter and power commander 4000
How much do you weigh, and the other dude looks like he's pushing 3 bills?
I know this is an old video, but the new Rebel 1100 is reminiscent of the Magna. Sport bike twin with a 270 degree crank, and it moves with 85 horsepower. Comes close but not the same.
Badass wonder how they would do against a Goldwing 1500
What a FUN video! Loved it!
Wonder how you would do against a vn 2000
I don’t know anything about them. According to 0-60 times it’s 1/4 time is 12.4, my fastest on the magna is 12.3 so it would definitely be a really good race and would depend on rider
what's your gas mileage? I remember getting over 100 miles to the tank but nowadays I only get around 60 but I only take it out for errands and to grab a quick bite around town now
I always ask questions before I finish the whole video haha... I think the tank is 2 gallons with .5 reserve
I was getting around 100 per tank but I get around 80 now but I’ve changed a lot on the bike.
@@jamesrevels yeah right now I don't ride it enough to justify what I'd probably have to fix to get it back to where it was
I have an 82 and really have a ton of fun on it . I love when a street glide trys me .

So helmets are not mandatory around there?
Nope, there is no laws on riding gear. I’ve seen people in flip flops, shorts, and a t shirt and that’s it
Did you remove the pipies ???
The pipes are 4 into 2. It’s not the “Magna” look, but it is better for performance.
@@jamesrevels thanks, i already order my wrap , pls if you have Instagram just share me , I wanna follow you
Instagram link is in the description
Have an 82 750 older than me still runs like a champ love hitting the 9k marker when i shift during highway rides.
Is it tough to find parts for the v65? I was thinking of getting one.
I honestly don’t know, I have a V45 and parts aren’t terribly difficult to find
@@jamesrevels oh ok. Appreciate you.
Yea, it’s more of an assist, but I use it as cruise, just constantly adjusting it. I got the case from a local Harley dealer.
Think it’s called a throttle lock. They are $19 on temu. Copy of the expensive $109 dealies. I love my actual cruise control on my bike. We don’t have any hills so I dunno how it would do.
Holly shit man!!I was sure that 1800 will eat you with its second gear 😬...well done magna!
That Honda V 4 is a GREAT engine !! Very strong !! I have a 96 Magna and 2020 Fury and the Magna will run all over the Fury.
You should try a v65 they’re great bikes.
Que hermoso es el sonido, el placer de correr, la adrenalina, la potencia 😭😭😭😭😭😭. casi lloro de tristeza por no poder tener una moto de ese calibre 😿.
pero algún día lograre comprarme una, lograre mi sueño.
What is the fuel range on that bike?
I get about 100 miles give or take a bit out of a tank. It’s just 3.5 gallons
@@jamesrevels App the info
My boss has a 1980 V65 Magna. That thing is stupid fast. Maybe it can't beat a modern 1000cc+ crotch rocket, but it can leave almost anything else behind. And it's 40 years old. Just amazing bikes.
Yea, the old V65 is an amazing bike. I want one eventually
11:35
Smashed it 👏
Im with everyone on this..I was looking for a V65 eating lunch race. Still fun, be safe.
Nice bike. Been wanting a Magna (V65 or V45). Have a Yamaha Vmax. V-4 life.
Vmax is a nice bike too. the Magna I have is a V45, but there seems to be a lot of support for the V65 though
It must be a magna thing with the second gear. My v30 does the same thing under fast shifting
Hopefully it doesn’t do it on the race track in a few weeks
@@jamesrevels I wish you the best brother. And be safe.
My 1999 vf750c (Magna) does it as well
Man I wish I had big beautiful open roads like that In jersey all we got is traffic and potholes
There isn’t that many people around here, whole state has less people than the big cities lol
I've had a 1994 magna for about 4 years now it's a little over 22k on the odometer managed to get the bike to do 135 easy with just a sprocket change.
one of my first bikes as the 83 V45 .. fun bike
I seen that redline on your bike, I have a Honda Fury 1300 and a Victory Hammer 1700.
I didn’t mean to run it out that long😂 I meant to shift around 9k
Awesome video....thanks cheers from Texas
Thank you
I ride a VTX but I also still have my 1981 CB750 custom that bike still smokes people once in awhile pretty entertaining
They are definitely fun bikes. I love mine
Had an 80-CB750 Custom. Bike was fast.
Magna 750 best bike ever. Thankx for the awesome video
With My 99 750 magna it will only do 68 miles on a full tank with the new after market petcock before it hits
reserve.
Is the main height taller? Unless you’ve changed something else, that should be the only thing to change that
Man, if they made a v65 with fuel injection in a modern chassis😮😮😮😮😮
Had 97 Magna. Fantastic bike!
THAT 1800 IS PULLIN LIKE 1800 POUNDS THO !
@@jamesrevels IZ JUST PLAYIN BROTHER...GREAT VIDEO....IM GETTING A 2002 VTX 1800C TOMARROW...EXCITED.
I know😂, it was all in good fun. He was surprised when I passed him thanks for the support
The 1800 vtx has a higher top speed than mine however and more comfortable on a long ride.
The VTX shouldn't be able to touch the 750, they are only slightly slower in the 1/4 then the V65. Now I'm talking about the original 750 Magnas, don't know much about the later versions.
You also need some one who can handle it.
Two of my all time favorite bikes :D now slide a V-Max, and an M109r in there, and you have my top 4
I started out with a red 150 honda dream My last bike in 305 super hawk 2 450 last was a clumsy goldwing
I alway hope Honda will build another magna.
That would be awesome but I don’t see that happening unfortunately
I used to have a 2009 Honda VTX 1800 F.
It only has five gears.
When you’re in fifth at around 88 miles an hour, if you fully twist the throttle, that thing will take off like shifting from 3rd to 4th.
I sold the bike, never should have and purchased a 2nd gen, 2014 Honda Valkyrie.
I don’t regret purchasing the Valkyrie but, I should have never sold the VTX.
Gotta luv the "one-n-dun" Valkyrie with the built in anti-theft styling! Lol. With that F-6however, it truly is a velvet hammer!
At 8:38 the dude was like let me get in this left lane and pass u
He doesn't get slapped until 10:25...
If you're in a pinch bro you can take a rubber band or anything for that matter and place it in between the throttle and the casing...bam cruise control!!!!
That's not a bad idea, may have to try that.
yeah you may have pulled out in front, but he probably didn't he was racing. that little beginner bike was wrapped up in the red line. that 1800 was probably running 3 grand. but the camera work made it look impressive anyhow.
🤔 we was literally stopped in the middle of the highway and he done the 3 honks. How would he not know we was racing? He is the one that initiated it 😬 VTX owners are really pressed about this video for some reason 🤣
There is a lot of people out there that don’t know about the power of the Magna.
So when is outrunning a big v twin cruiser something to brag about?
Wasn’t really bragging, just was out riding and having a good time with a friend and made a video on it lol
@@jamesrevels was referring to all the posts about outrunning a cruiser.
Road a magna 1 time and was really surprised how fast that damn thing was nice video
They surprise a lot of people at how fast they really are
I have a honda shadow 1100 and im sure i could take this of the line , but still sounds and moves like a beast! Great bike🔥🤩
Only one way to find out lol
Um, well no, you can’t beat a Magna off the line with a shadow.
lol it is one thing to think something.... by the numbers, not a chance in hell my friend.
Most Honda's r great....but a mag 750 will leave that shadow n the dust
Yeah.. my friend has a ll00 vt.. 86.. my magna is 85.. he loves the speed and quickness on my magna.. but he loves his vt.. long range torque. Sadly we both haven't ridden in a few years.
Tuve esa moto por muchos años, excelente potencia!

What pipes on the magna she screams and I love it lol
Good luck finding them, I haven’t seen anything like them anywhere. They was on the bike when I bought it. I have been told they are called Megaphone by Jardine. I have a 4 into 2 style exhaust rather than the 4 individual pipes

Magna is a beast man! I have to stick with my 1100 ACE Tourer because I’d kill myself on that Magna!
Okay maybe the the V45 had gone úp a little on my estimations, but a a V65 would hàve left them in dust !
