You owe it to yourself to ride a VFR the are kinda cool n sound incredible. I woulda posted a photo of the one I service for a buddy who has one but it wouldn't allow it here.
Harley is doing a great job killing themselves these days. Way too high priced and not as much performance as you get from . . . well, basically anyone else.
I have owned my 96’ Magna CD since 2000. It’s an awesome bike. It does have a couple of shortcomings. First off the rear drum brake. I did the bigger back tire mod and the brake is not real effective. I recently changed the shoes and it’s better, but a disk would definitely be an improvement. I am sure going back to the stock tire would fix this but I like the look. Besides for only having a single front disk it works well. The second is the fuel capacity. Let’s face it, 4 cylinders, 4 carbs, 4 exhaust pipes. This is a hot rod. And I have the K&N, Cobra pipes and DD shim and jet kit. Another gallon of gas would be a bonus. It will out accelerate many cruisers, sportsters, Vtx’s both 1300 and 1800 , Fat Boys have been destroyed in a race by me. It is an awesome canyon carver and very dependable. I have heard that there’s not much you can do to customize the bike, no options for saddlebags etc and I call BS. I currently have viking bags on easy brackets but ran Mustang hard bags on ghost brackets until I moved them over to my Yamaha Raider. Back in the day, there was plenty of dress up options from Kuryakyn, Jardine, Cobra, V&H and a company called Cycle-istic who until the owner Dobie G passed away made quite a few aftermarket parts for Magnas as did Dave Dodge Racing. Realistically you are now talking about a bike that is for mine 26 making it a classic bike. Kinda like you fussing about not being able to get the newest parts for your 57 Chevy. My Raider has been hot rodded and in an all out drag race will probably take my Magna but now we’re talking about a 1900 vs a 750, both hot rodded, the 1900 better be able to hold its own. As far as handling the Magna will blow it away every time. And being that I’m in my mid 50’s, that 1900 is a beast so the Magna isn’t going anywhere. I used to ride with Southern Cruisers, Rolling Thunder and Patriot Guard but now find myself mostly commuting as many of my riding brothers are either hanging up the helmets or passing away. If you get the chance to pick up one of these to add to your stable, you won’t regret it. It’s not a twin so it won’t ride like one it will ride like what it is….aV-4 muscle bike fast light and nimble. And when you add a set ov V&H or Cobra pipes, K& N and the proper jets and carb shims to get rid of the stumble the sound coming from this bike is intoxicating.
I have 3 Hondas and a Road King (great touring however I like my Goldwing better). What suprising is I use the Harley as my be like everyone else bike. I use my VTX 1300R as my fun bike.
A buddy of mine had a 1st gen Magna (circa 1984), right after Honda dropped it's displacement down from a 750 to a 700 to avoid the tariff. There were several of us that had bikes living in the dorms on an Air Force base. We had this thing on the weekends when the grills would come out (and the beer), and guys would do burnouts in the parking lot. This guy was trying to do a burnout on his Magna, but he kept bogging it out and couldn't get the tire to break loose. He got frustrated, parked his bike, and was upset, claiming the bike was a dog. I got on the bike (with his permission of course) and did a burnout to the end of the parking, then did another coming back. I got off and said "nothin wrong with this bike." I told him to drop the hammer at about 8K and she does really nice smokies. He had no problem doing them after that....we did have to keep an eye out for the LEs though, they didn't take too kindly to this practice...at any rate, the Magna is hardly a Harley wannabe, it's V-4 separates it from any twin, and performance wise the Magna would smoke any Harley except the V-Rod...
Had a '96 Magna back in the day. Fantastic bike. Pretty quick once it got up on the cans around 7000 rpm. Riding position was only good for a couple hours, but you could be two hundred miles away by then!
Speaking of 1997 magnas !! I have that bike! Bought it for 2 grand. Spent another 2 grand on tires etc , and another 600 alone on a corbin seat. Now what I was riding before? I sold my 2020 triumph rocket 3 . I know that you guys think I'm crazy but this bike is raw fun . I also had 2 harley Vrods and even a 2019 fat bob special. Trust me, this baby runs on regular gas and gets 44 mpg !! It's a keeper. Sails along at 85 mph revving at 6 grand, which is Nothing for this bike. By the way. It's almost 25 years old and only has 17 k miles on it , three thousand that I put on in the last 4 months since I bought it .
Loved my '99! I spent 9 months on it touring around North America. It's a great long distance travelling bike when it is set up properly. I had the windshield a Mustang seat with backrest and forward controls and could do 12 hour days no problem! When I bought it my buddy bought a Harley, I had more power more performance and more chrome at half the price! And the kicker was self adjusting valves!!
I loved my 2001 Magna I owned that bike for 16 years I put over 100,000 KM on it. It was a beast . I kept it so long because I never got bored riding it . It was like my best friend I owned it from new and when I sold it I sold it to a fellow Magna enthusiast . Now I ride a Big Harley Touring bike.Great video well done.
@@maximalniy I love The Harley because I want to tour now. I do miss the instant power of the Magna but it is nice to not have to fill up every Hundred miles like I had to on the Magna. It was the best choice for me for the kind of riding I do now.
Had v twin cruisers before my 97 magna, but the power wasn’t enough, wanted to get a fast bike with the comfort of a cruiser. The best choice I ever made. Good for cruising and amazing for cornering(for a cruiser). Once you get the hand of it and squeeze all the power, beats most 600cc sport bikes between stoplights...the look on their faces...precious. You don’t need to buy expensive pipes, just debaffle the stock ones and it becomes insanely loud. Love it, did a complete rebuild and full restoration, will never sell...only buying more bikes...
Before I got my Harley's I owned two different Honda CX500C's. They were awesome bikes for power to weight with shaft drive and me not weighing much. They were fast. It's all about personal preference. Go for what you like and feels good to you!! Be Good and Be Safe!!
The Honda CX series were an engineering jewel. This was the powerplant that Honda choose for their Turbo bikes from the early 1980's. The also had a touring version which Honda tagged as the SilverWing to compliment the larger displacement Gold Wing. High praise indeed!
Just bought a 98 before the start of the year for 1k, rebuilt carbs and it already had cobra slashcuts on it. Riden a handful of hondas from shadow 750, 1100 ace, and valkyrie. For handling power and comfort it out performs all. Love it
I owned a 2001 magna. Great bike, but as I aged, it started to outride me. Have a Night train now. My friend owns my Magna. So, every now and then, I get to play on the Magna. Oh and it will slay any stock Harley even the new ones.
I just bought a 1996 with 6,250 original miles on it. Sweet bike. I had an 83 1100 Magna and loved it, never thought I'd buy another Magna tho. Incredibly happy I did.
I used to ride the hell out of this bike . put highway pegs on the front engine mounts. Super comfortable. It will go all day at 8, 000+ rpm cruise easily at 120 mph and engine loves going fast! Tops out at a little over 130 stock.....bulletproof!
I currently have a 1995 Magna Deluxe. They are amazing bikes. Comfortable, great handling for a cruiser, and plenty fast. In reference to several points in the video: I consistently out run other cruisers, stock or not, 114s or 116s, no really big issue. However, it's very true that the power comes in after 7, before that it is quick, but after 7 thousand rpm it comes to life. Comfortable for city to city riding, however, the more standard riding position makes my left knee lock up after about 3 hours, and the seat is Comfortable for only about 150 miles before my butt goes numb. The gas tank is incredibly small, a little over 3 gallons. Again, not bad for city to city, but anything I've 100 miles and you'd better hit a gas station. Exhaust sounds like a weedeater stock, a set of nice cobras or custom exhaust from Vance and Hines and this bike wakes up. It's a honda so incredible reliability, however, if you need to change something the engineers didn't think too far ahead, say the air filter, it is under the gas tank, so the tank will have to come off, which means the seat will have to come off. Not a big deal though if you're semi mechanically inclined. Great bikes, but due to Hondas lack of advertising or support, the bikes died off with hardly any aftermarket support. All in all, great bikes for newer ish riders, maybe too quick for new riders, but light enough to have no issues if you respect the bike. Any questions that I didn't hit, let me know and I will gladly answer if I can. Great bike man
longest I'd ride mine was LA back home to SD and my ass was grass on the stock seat, I'd get to Oceanside when I'd have to fill my tank up I think it's actually 2.5 but mine only gets 60 miles to the tank now haha... always had mad electrical issues with it though with overcharging batteries and burning out wires but still riding mine for quick trips around my area
@@Zennofobic That's not normal about the overcharging - you probably want to look at replacing the regulator/rectifier, that may very well fix your problem.
Nice, love the old Hondas too, I have a '79 CX500, remember those with the tranverse twin like a moto guzzi sort of? Also have a '97 Sportster that used to be an 883 but is now a hopped up 1250. If you lived close by, it would be an interesting challenge, since you said you've never been beaten by a V-twin.
@@trevorjameson3213 just talking To a buddy tonight about a biker Friend who did the conversion On a sportster to 1200 cc. According to him it's a totally Different and much faster bike. Hope you enjoy yours. And yes I do remember the Hondas With the transverse v twin Engine. What hasn't Honda Tried? Ride safe.
You're correct about the comfort of current bikes coming from a cruiser rider. The bikes I owned in the 90's, like a Nighthawk 650 and 750, and a Magna, road much better with a more comfortable suspension that my 2012 Kawi Nomad. Sometimes I think riding a mule would be more comfortable on the highway than my bike!
Got my dad's old 96 magna from one of his buddies who just left it in his garage back in 2016 when I was in highschool still riding it to this day absolutely love the bike!
I bought mine a few months ago for 2200 with only 10k miles! It was stored outside for only one year so it has some surface rust but I love it I got another month before I can ride it on the road but oround my yard and driveway and parking lots it’s great
The V4 engine is a different animal than a V or parallel twin. Not sure the cruiser crowd is necessarily looking for smooth, sportbike-like characteristics in their ride experience. But us personally, we dig the Magna! And nice 🍩 sesh!!! 👍 We'll see you on the next one... 👨👩👧❤
I had two VF750C Magnas. Lowsided on the first and picked up another one shortly after. If definitely is a cruiser with the heart of a sportbike. What I don't miss was the carb trouble that came with both of my Magnas, but I do miss ripping up 80mph in 2nd gear!
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Honda motor cycles in general but the magna especially. They have been relatively consistent over the years in quality reliability and value. The Magna ( both versions) the CB 750 , the 1st generation Valkyrie , and of course the Goldwing. I currently own a 2009 VTX 1300C and love it. My next purchase will probably be the 1800cc VTX
as a former owner riding twisties and cruising all day in desert heat at 100+mph, this bike is one of the best lb. for lb. ever made. I had cobra slip-ons great loud sound and Metzler Marathons it will rip with sports tourers and pur some chaps on for hour after hour lux. cruising.
Iv’e owned one for 16 years, ‘94 model. 1994 was first year for third gen Magna’s. I bought it with 21,000 smiles on it and it now has 54,000 smiles on it. The best tires for this bike is the Michelin commander II s . Excellent handling in both dry and wet and the tread lasts a long time. No major maintenance other then oil and filters and general maintenance. Don’t forget to replace the secondary air filter. My bike has been on the beach of Daytona and the Dragons tail. Like the video shows it’s hard to find something to replace it with. My newer bike is the one year only 2014 CTX1300 deluxe. Both machines sport V4 engines.
I’ve owned my 1994 third gen Magna since 2007. The first third gen was 94. I’ve put over 30,000 smiles on it just for fun. It has been on the Dragon A few times from Ohio and Daytona beach. I repainted it Corvette fiftieth anniversary Ruby red try- coat. I polished the wheels and front forks. This is the only bike I’ve owned this long. My other bike is a 2014 CTX1300A which is for longer rides. V4s are awesome. I’ve outrun numerous Harlies and other bikes with the Magna. The only issue I’ve had was the voltage regulator. The slow speed handling is excellent on the Magna. It along with the CTX will be my last bikes. At 76 the new machines look like something out of Star Wars to me. Great video.
While it’s comparable, it’s no wannabe either. My cousin had one back in the day, and it was a lot of fun. He had an old low rider, and he enjoyed both, but for different reasons. It’s a cool bike, and the right person will pay pay for it. I think it was a good investment.
Love my Magna. I think it's a very well rounded bike that does a lot of things well. I especially enjoy the smooth, wide power band this motor gives you. It's a level of refinement that's hard to find in the cruiser space.
I remember leaving a comment on your channel years ago talking about these magnas and you said you really wanted to try one out. Glad you finally got the oppportunity. FYI 78hp is the WHEEL number. These came with 87hp at the crank and that's what most people refer to when talking about bike hp :)
Great review. You're absolutely right about cruiser design going backwards. It's crying out for a manufacturer to put a high performance engine in a cruiser-style frame with good cornering clearance AND KEEP IT LIGHT. Triumph has kind of edged towards it but not cracked it, and likewise Kawasaki with the Vulcan. Nearest Harley got was the V-Rod which was obviously fast but still quite heavy.
The old VFR 750 have gear driving and 6-speed RC26 -RC36 -RC36II this magna have a chain timing. That's is the difference between those beautiful engines but still great Honda quality build i love it
I have a 96 VF750C, I also had a 98 HD Fatboy. One of them had to go, I sold the HD as when riding horseshoe mountain bends the HD needed a 'three point turn' to get round, whereas the Honda glided around the really sharp bends and had smooth 4 cylinders torque to pull you out
I happen to have the same bike, same paint scheme mines a 2002 tho, i have a Corbin seat Vance and Hines pipes which make it sound louder than a Harley and black rims, it’s my first bike and I’ve struggled the most with finding ANY parts but i love it to death
you're more than on point about that wind screen, it feels like the wind is trying to pull your shoulders apart after a few minutes of 80+mph riding without it. Thankfully the tank is so small you'll have to rest soon anyway lol.
I've owned three of these and currently still have the third, love these bikes!!! The fleet; '96 Magna, '97 VMAX and just added a '19 KTM 790 Adventure S. Those Magnas are surprisingly capable off-road as one of my older videos show, haha! The Jardine forward controls make a world of difference for us taller guy(6') and give more angle of lean into sport bike territory! I drag hard parts with the Magna at Tail of the Dragon. XD
I have a 97 magna . Cobra complete exhaust. Stage 2 jetting. And valve timing adjustment...120 70 17 front tire 180 70 15 rear ..drag bars...what a different beast ..mean and loud.
I had a 1980s V45 Sabre with that same V4 engine. It would cruise 110 mph all day. I road it from Fort Bragg North Carolina to Denver and back during a 5 day extended Thanksgiving weekend. I would love to have that version but hard to find in good condition
@@JonsMotoGarage There is a 1986 V65 available near me in AR. Very low miles, totally original and sorted out. Not sure about price. The buyer had always wanted one until she actually rode it. Scared the hell out of her coming from a VTX1300. I believe the V number is cubic inches on V45 and V65 bikes.
@@upsidedowndog1256 "V" indicates engine configuration, which in the case of Honda is either Vtwin, V4, or V5. The number is Cubic inches of the motor, V45=750cc V65=1100cc.
I owned a 83 v65(1100) Sabre in '85. my pal had the 83 v65 magna. Both were 130+ mph bikes. Later, in 2014, I picked up a 1994 750 Magna. It was a little beast. It could do 110 mph all day long while my Harley pals were overheating! 130mph top speed stock. Vibration free and way faster than any stock Harley and could corner like a sport bike. Not a BMW GS. But the best all around cruiser ever made!!
My father got a 99 with 150 000km on it and my mother a 03 with 160 000km without any problem. I learned to ride with those bike. Now I have a 18 drz 400sm
This generation of Magna was "decontented" by Honda to make it more price competitive as well as more profitable. Not only did Honda eliminate shaft drive but the Hydraulic clutch as well. It should also be noted that this V-4 engine is based on Honda's VFR750F Interceptor which had the gear driven cams. So to keep the price down, Honda "decontented" the complex gear cam drive system in favor of a simpler cam chain set-up. I also believe that the fenders are plastic rather then steel. As are the faux chrome valve covers. IMHO, the best Magnas Honda offered were the 1987 & 88 "Super"Magnas. But this generation of Magna provided a good 90% of what H-D was selling and also what Honda had in previous renditions.
I saw two of these bikes pop up on my fb marketplace last week and was surprised they were from the 70-80s. Glad you did a review on em because I couldn't find a recent review on them! edit: 80s disregard 70s. One I saw was 1987
I have a 98 Magna and 08 1200 sportster, magna beats it every time. The Harley has alot more personality and customization. The magna is just a fun reliable power cruiser, cant customize much but its a ton of fun as is! love the vids you and your wife do keep it up!
@@seanbutler2291 I said "Much" in comparison to a Sportster. I've done a fare bit to the Magna but the options are limitless on the sporty and that is undeniable.
Still riding my '96 in 2022. Gas mileage has gone to hell though, gets about 60 miles on the tank when I used to remember getting over 100. Capacity was always small with the 2 gallons and .5 reserve. Only take it out to go get smokes or some grub or the occasional run to the beach but I'll never sell
Not correction, just some extra info: RE: 01:46 NET ratings for the engine are 86HP@9k/52ft ibs@7500 (Factory spec(Full stock, new condition) dyno numbers in Gross HP vary from 76 to 82HP (depending on alt, as well as every dyno is a little different), which is a testament to how efficient that drive system is ... the factory spec sheet shows why this bike is so much fun, as the it's just a full pull to a peak 87HP @9k rpm! Torque is just an sweet, as it flattens out from 7k to 8k rpm @ just under 52 ft lbs, they rated it @ 7500 rpm with 52 ft lbs. wringing this bike out past 9k rpm does nothing for you, but taking it right to that edge where it drops it's a fucking rush. Never trust Wiki-pedia or random pages, look for the factory spec sheet where you can see the data in print, and graph from the original data. older bikes have misleading info all over the web. motorbikecatalog is one source where you can get real information. putting it on the dyno will result in different numbers for everyone, as these are specs just for the engine itself, NET HP, as when the engine is on a dyno, but worth mentioning. Rear wheel HP is always a little less due to parasitic loss to drive train, which is one reason they went from that really nice, maintenance free shaft drive to chain...sigh. edit- forgot to mention, you can get stock dyno charts from totalmotorcycle, and the charts show stock, and with jet kits.
Got an rc36 vfr750, Jon you should ride one, they are just great all around. Super reliable gear driven cam engines, mines got 96k and still running well. And the v4 sound is one of the best exhaust notes you'll ever hear.
You should test a VFR750. I own both and its amazing how different the engines feel, the gear driven cams on the VFR sound incredible,it even has a different firing order
Good morning I have a 1983 the 45 magna 16 original thousand miles the bike kicks ass for 1983 everybody loves looking at it and with aftermarket exhaust pipes it sounds like an animal. And the 83 model has dual disc brakes.
Just got my 94 magna back running. Sat in garage last 7yrs. Drained the old fuel, jumped it with the riding mower. Being a honda it started right up. Saw a fuel leak and traced it to the main fuel line from the tank petcock. Have 1 ordered and a new battery ready to put in. Too bad the wife wont let me keep it. Going up for sale in indpls....
Jon, Donuts are for eating not doing in the dirt.... Old Bultacos are for doing dirt riding, not a Honda 750 Magna. Stay on the street with those cruisers style bikes. Good video and appreciate your input.
Awesome bike, had a 97 an loved it. Silky smooth drivetrain. Wish I hadn’t sold it. Does everything well. Took mine on a trip half way across Canada, it was great. I picked up a 85 V65 last fall, love it but i like the 97 overall
bought my 84 700 in 07.great bike.will never sell it.i found out how much of a P I A carb rebuilds are.its easy once you get them out & seperated.but till then.take your time & try not to shout obsenities too loudly.its also a good time to rejet carbs.you may as well check valve clearance while carbs are off.since carbs must be removed to remove cam covers for inspection/adjustment.at least on 1st gen 700 magna.sabre may be different.
I had the Magna 700 and it was amazingly fast and smooth with good handling in spite of its long wheelbase. However, it was the most expensive bike I ever owned as far as keeping it running. Maintenance and repairs were labor intensive (translate: EXPENSIVE). Things kept breaking on it professional skills beyond mine were required to fix it, so I finally sold it while it was running well. Honda made the transmission "clunk" when putting it into first gear like a Harley which was not like previous Honda's. I would only recommend this bike to someone with deep pockets. It was the only Honda I ever owned that did not have "Honda quality".
Dont knock honda quality. Its there, if u or the previous owner didnt keep up on the routine maintenance, thats not hondas fault. Any bike neglected will be pricey to bring back to 100. Also learning to wrench a lil will save u tons of money.

Fuel pump died. Engine bearings failed - a known problem. Always serviced regularly by a professional and expensive motorcycle mechanic. Getting my magna for 1200$ this week very excited. I’ve only ever worked on cars before. But still very excited to learn and try to do this bike Justice. I looked over a few things on the bike it looks mint. Even got it to turn over. Only thing I’m worried about it the 4 cylinder. Dude took it apart to replace gaskets. It looked to all be there and clean too. Tips when working on this bike? Or things to hear and feel for?
I loved my 99 Magna too However if you dont ride it often, the quad carbs will give you issues, and it is an 8 hour job to dismantle remove clean and re assembly...thats the only reason I sold mine and replaced with a Suzuki Fuel Injected....
BTW Im Old..I had a 85 midnite blue vmax with kerker 4 into 1 exhaust in fact I had 5 of them 85 and/86' made in oct of 85 anyways all modded. also had the 1985 Kawasaki Eliminator ZL900, but never got to get the 1987 Super Magna tho Im dont think any of the newer magna's wud compare with a few mods...what do you think?
I remember when they were new, the magnas were cool. Looking at it now, i dont think the style aged well. My first "working" bike was an 87 VFR700. If you are going to try a VFR I recommend a 1998-2001 (fuel injected with gear driven cams) then get a pipe for it. They sound amazing.
I've ridden a Nighthawk 750, very nice ride. I think it would easily out-handle the Magna, but power-wise it's probably about the same (my guess anyway)
i went from a 98 Honda Superhawk to a 96 Magna, and i’m starting to notice that carbed Hondas don’t really like choke. if you have to choke it to start it, it’s probably too cold to ride anyway 😂
The V-4 was Honda's post UJM inline four performance engine. Honda prides itself on it's engineering prowess. Think oval pistons or off-set cranks and the like. The Magna's V-4 powerplant was always based on their super-sport model the Interceptor.
I'm curious to know if the Honda X-4 1300cc muscle bike is on the list? It's quite a rare bike over here, but there may be more in your neck of the woods.
Just did some research. The x4 reminds me of the vmax with the seat/tail end. Otherwise looks pretty close to the cb1100 styling. I'm sure it runs like a top!
Beautiful bike . Gotta get another one. I've been getting bored great bikes, easy to handle but dont let that fool you. Only about 80HP a far cry from my R1 yamaha but this lil bike is as fun. As you saw this bike will wheelie very easy. Prices right too
Cool! 😃 Used to ride a '95 vf750c..what a beast. I really miss it. Great fun bike for canyon or city riding. Very fast and easy. I didnt quite notice any wobbles or excessive vibrations on higher speed in comparison to dyna.. i guess none. Speaking of exhaust pipes, personally id prefer stock. Because these v4s dont rumble like v twins. Hwever i did hear magnas with mod pipes 😝😭....

Yeah that's my only complaint as well. The only thing it can't pass is a gas station XD
Even though I have 2 harleys in the garage I had a 88 magna it's a awesome bike wish I never got rid of it.
Ive got a 1988 Supermagna a surprisingly quick bike. Ive also got the Gsx 1400 muscle bike for touring. Love em both.
I have 3 Hondas and a Road King (great touring however I like my Goldwing better). What suprising is I use the Harley as my be like everyone else bike. I use my VTX 1300R as my fun bike.
Same...
V45 was introduced in 1982. Also, they made a V30 Magna which was a 500cc V4 and the V65 Magna did very well....that’s why Yamaha made the Vmax.
Dont forget the 87' - 88' supers ^^
v65 was also one of the fastest production model bikes at the time
@@dominikgreen3977 I was the fastest in early 80s
My second bike was a v30 and it was a fun little bike.

Good trade. Probably for the best.
You mean about a hundred ten before reserve. My Maggie Rose is no tourer. 😆
So how is the Harley riding after Magna?
Hey, I’m looking at a 96 with 7K miles on it, do you think $1750 is fair or a bit high?
I used to ride the hell out of this bike . put highway pegs on the front engine mounts. Super comfortable. It will go all day at 8, 000+ rpm cruise easily at 120 mph and engine loves going fast! Tops out at a little over 130 stock.....bulletproof!
I currently have a 1995 Magna Deluxe. They are amazing bikes. Comfortable, great handling for a cruiser, and plenty fast. In reference to several points in the video:
I consistently out run other cruisers, stock or not, 114s or 116s, no really big issue.
I own 97 magna bought new.

Nice, love the old Hondas too, I have a '79 CX500, remember those with the tranverse twin like a moto guzzi sort of? Also have a '97 Sportster that used to be an 883 but is now a hopped up 1250.
My 98 magna was my first bike. 2 years later I have bobbed it and gave it straight pipes. It's amazing. I'll never sell it
I bought mine a few months ago for 2200 with only 10k miles! It was stored outside for only one year so it has some surface rust but I love it I got another month before I can ride it on the road but oround my yard and driveway and parking lots it’s great
With the 1988 4 upswept pipe version Supermagna. Everyone drills the end of the baffles. A much more satisfying and grunty sound then emerges.
Not a problem if you RIDE IT and use some lucas fuel treatment.
Had a ‘97 many years ago. One of my favorite bikes.
Currently running an 86 Magna 700. Love that bike. Awesome video by the way.
With proper pipes, the low-RPM rumble IS there. 😘
What?? Nvm the red lights m..
You want a high rpm growl!!
Love my 98 magna! As for the sound....put some V&H pipes on it and it gets the looks it deserves.
Nice video.
I got v&h on my 96 and it sounds beautiful, people always ask if it’s a Harley cause of how it sounds lol
Hit the nail on the head! Just bought a 2000 magna for 3 thousand, my fist bike ever. Absolutely falling In love with this thing!!!!
I have a 1997 honda magna 750. It's my first bike, and i love it. it's the black/yellow color scheme. 16k miles n only paid $900 it runs amazing!
Good looking out! Didn't realize the 78 was at the wheel! Happy to finally get my hands on the magna!
Thats the shaft drive gens 1 and 2,more like 74 rwhp, his 3rs gen has more like 80-84 rwhp, chain drive u keep more.
Taking my 2003 Honda magna out in the morning. Bought it new and still looks and works great.
I'll always remember my Dad's V65 Sabre, that thing was a rocket! :D ...and then he bought the 86' V-Max..from very fast, to insane.
One of them had to go, I sold the HD as when riding horseshoe mountain bends the HD needed a 'three point turn' to get round, whereas the Honda glided around the really sharp bends and had smooth 4 cylinders torque to pull you out
Bought one last year, and I have retired my R6. I am converting mine to a bobber, and keep it in the collection for years to come lol.
Magna vf750 was my first bike when I started riding again. Mine was a 2001 best thing to get comfortable with riding again
Never getting rid of my magna. Can keep up with your average sport bike rider.
XD
My Jardine forward controls at 5'6" almost stretches me out too much
Looks like you’re near Phoenix. I lived in Fountain Hills for year and also rode a nineties Magna, which I miss terribly. I will get another one.
Those are fun bikes. The V65 was an absolute monster of a bike. No HD could get close to that one.
Thats what I've heard about the v65..maybe ill start keeping my eyes peeled for one of those.

@@upsidedowndog1256 "V" indicates engine configuration, which in the case of Honda is either Vtwin, V4, or V5. The number is Cubic inches of the motor, V45=750cc V65=1100cc.

Good review. Cool bikes but I do wish this gen had a shaft drive like the Ones before it
This generation of Magna was "decontented" by Honda to make it more price competitive as well as more profitable.

In the 90s a rear drum was still pretty common on most stuff that wasn't a full blown sport bike.
Got an rc36 vfr750, Jon you should ride one, they are just great all around. Super reliable gear driven cam engines, mines got 96k and still running well. And the v4 sound is one of the best exhaust notes you'll ever hear.

Love the Magna. Wish I still had mine
I just rode my brothers Magna 750 and I must say I love the bike it is so smooth.
I have a 1994 which is the same thing you have there and I love it. It’s smooth fast fun to ride
I loved my 99 Magna too
However if you dont ride it often, the quad carbs will give you issues, and it is an 8 hour job to dismantle remove clean and re assembly...thats the only reason I sold mine and replaced with a Suzuki Fuel Injected....
The V65 was released in 1983. I had one and it was the best bike ever made up yo that point.
Mine rumbles so hard and it's super loud. Mine has a removed resonator
Carbs are a Dante-level Hellish nightmare on all VF derivatives. The Honda V4 platform deserves EFI.
Can you do a video on how to wheelie the magna?
And or slide it
Just bought a 97 in October. First bike and learning to ride. According to most videos, I feel I made a good deal at $800.
I had a 92 Honda Nighthawk 750. It was an inline 4 though. I wonder how it compares to the Magna 🤔
Very similar performance, and totally different rides.
I've ridden a Nighthawk 750, very nice ride. I think it would easily out-handle the Magna, but power-wise it's probably about the same (my guess anyway)
I ride NH750 and as you know it needs 6th gear engine revving way to high on highway but not the case with magna
i went from a 98 Honda Superhawk to a 96 Magna, and i’m starting to notice that carbed Hondas don’t really like choke. if you have to choke it to start it, it’s probably too cold to ride anyway 😂
My 94 all original Honda Magna has 116 thousand miles on it and it's still putting them Harley's to shame
Its weird hearing it with stock exhaust mine has no baffles i think, so much rumble
If you are not felling the pull until 7K jet and tune the carbs, your missing out.
750 Magna did 12.2’s in the quarter even with the Valkyrie of the same time frame!!!
They were no slouch, that's for sure...I had an '83 V-65 Magna that was tested to running high 10s in the 1/4 mile, and it felt like it too!

I'm not familiar with that bike. Will have to do some research. Ive had a few vtx 1300's in my day.
Prices right too
Really sweet knock a round bike Jon. I’m looking to add one to my collection.
I have two of these... ISO fuel tank for one. Anyone have any advice for finding an affordable one?
Can you explain to me why a 60 degree liquid cooled V4 had ANYTHING to do with Harley?
