    BOON all the way! i have used them for 2-3 years and they are worn but still good on the heavy bag! i weigh 185lbs and really like the BOON for the price. Reyes should not be graded against the two other gloves.

    Hi robert4fun58
    I used to weight 56kg (currently just under 54kg) and I'm not a heavy hitter in sparring, I think I can use 14oz gloves safely. My rule of tumb is 16oz for 60kg and over, but is ok 14oz for under 60kg, that's me. I know most gym recommend or have mandatory 16oz.
    The comparison of different gloves is done on purpose because people often don't know differences of brands and types of gloves. I think is good to point out differences so that people have a better understanding of what they need or want to buy.

      I just bought a third pair of Boon's , they are getting more expensive , i bought the last 16oz pair available on Amazon overhere for 83 Euros , now its at least 100 Pounds without the shipping and on the Boon site they are more expensive too , thats the way it goes with quality products.
      I have a 12oz pair of Boons for heavybag for over 3 years , the padding is not so good anymore but the inside is still intact and i still use them...

    I bought a new pair of Fairtex Aura gloves today after trying on many pairs and a few different brands and testing them on the bag, the padding was quite firm compared to the others but felt like they protected my hands the best, though it would suck to be the sparring partner on the other end. I weighed them when I got home they are a 16 ounce glove, one weighed in at 15.9 ounces and the other was 15.6 ounces, I was impressed that they were so close to weight, as some other gloves that have been reviewed were quite far off stated weight.

      I bought the Auras too and love them. They have a slightly tweaked fit than the bgv1 that feels even better. Glad I bought them because they’re impossible to find now. Luckily I was training at a Fairtex gym and their store had them in stock.

    I'm weighing around 165lbs, 5'10" and want to get these in a Medium (14oz but come out almost 16oz as you say), and want them for training with pads and heavy bag with my personal trainer - would Medium be a good size? BTW - This is the best video I've found for these particular Cleto gloves, thanks for posting.

    • @DoberFrann
      @DoberFrann  9 років тому

      you can use 14oz for pads, you can even use 12oz. I'm not sure I can recommend lower than 12 if you use them on heavy bag. I think with M you should be fine. However, I suggest you to try someones 14oz first if you can, to see how you feel. Very few brands if any have accurate padding, they are usually are over what they declare; unless they are for tournaments like the Adidas AIBA. If they are under you should return them and have them replaced.
      Reyes are quite dense, so it have more of an impact, I don't know how would you feel about it on heavy bag, but with 14oz M you should be fine. I used 8oz Fairtex on pads and loved it, but my friend didn't quite like the stinging sensation.

    • @guysmarkus1
      @guysmarkus1 5 років тому

      bakerr69 Go with 16oz as thats what you will be sparring in. Too many people train in 12oz and 14oz to look faster on the bag and mitts then need to put on 16oz for sparring and they are slow and they get fatigued much faster. Lomachenko is 135lbs and he trains with 18oz!! Trust me on this, I've made the same mistake. I am assuming you intend to spar or fight and if not, take up another sport.

    no kidding the reyes has a longer cuff than the fairtex because the fairtex is a muay thai glove and the reyes is a boxing glove. They are 2 different styles dude, 2 completely different gloves for 2 different combat sports

    • @DoberFrann
      @DoberFrann  9 років тому +14

      You are taking for granted that everybody knows that. Many people don't know about basic differences of gloves, and not everyone has a chance to try different gloves before buying them. This video is aimed to people that don't know much about different style of gloves. I know I am not the best person to deliver this kind of information, but at least now some people can find about them. The reasons I make these videos is because I couldn't find these information myself when I was purchasing my gloves.

    @thunderbrand 10 років тому +5

    Nice review but I personally find that the BGV1 has awful wrist support. Those gloves may be good for muay thai but they're not well suited to the serious punching work that you do in western boxing. Reyes and Grant are great for that. Have you tried high-end Venum or Everlast? They're not bad either.
    I'm interested in Boon but after watching your review I'm not gonna get them on 14oz like I was planning. I should probably get them on 10oz or 12oz (I want them for pads). Where did you train in Thailand?

    • @dashfront21
      @dashfront21 10 років тому

      I think the bgv1 has great wrist support, especially since the velcro is so close the the wrist and the fact that it has a dense padding right under the velcro. I always hit the bag hard and I've found no problem. You just have too pull the velcro extra tight though. Twins and top king (the ones I've tried) seem to be a little flimsy around the wrist. I've never tried Reyes or Grant but I definitely need to. There's no doubt they blow the bgv1 out of the water, especially for boxing.

    • @thunderbrand
      @thunderbrand 10 років тому

      dashfront21 My 14 oz bgv1 has bad wrist support no matter how much I tighten the velcro. It's unstable and I think it has to do more with the absence of a grip bar than with the cuff. Though I really prefer the elastic strap velcro of Everlast and Venum.

      Ogdamastakilla Yes on "more attacks" but "No" on punching. If Thai boxers could only use their hands they would be crushed by a western boxer.

    • @realness3655
      @realness3655 5 років тому +2

      Incorrect Reyes & Fairtex are both higher quality than Boon. However the Quality competition between Reyes & Fairtex is a lot tighter. Fairtex are for Muay Thai, Reyes are for boxing, a boxer couldn't tell me Reyes are better than Fairtex same way a Thai fighter can't say Fairtex over Reyes.
