    The newer radios have so many nested menus and settings, it can be confusing. Peter, thanks for the Saturday morning video drop and have a peaceful weekend.

    No moment boring for me, because that is the real life. I often get radios with minor to no faults. Sometimes loose connectors, wrong settings or just false conclusions while operating the TRX. So that is once again a lovely video with a happy ending, especially the bill is quite low. Gut gemacht Peter, danke sehr! 73 de Olaf

    Its so easy to make these sort of mistakes on modern radio's. I was given an 857D that was apparently deaf on HF. After some research I found that the AGC was switched off. Turned it back on and all was fine. Nice explanation on the firmware upgrade process Peter. Have a nice weekend.

    991(A) has a known problem with attenuator, it often get damaged if turned on and the second TRX near-by it active. To small (power rating) resistors. Then the radio is deaf when att is enabled, but working completely fine with preamps engaged. You checked only preamps. Maybe you should also check if attenuator is working correctly.

    Like a few others have said the 991/A front end is easily damaged. Rig works with IPO 1 or 2 but deaf without IPO selected.

    Check in IPO mode with higher signal level input. It may be deaf in IPO mode (No amp1 or 2) only.

      Yes R1005 if blown will make the rig sound dead with IPO on please check R1005

    Is this another case of R.T.F.M. ?? I agree you should check your firmware of new radio's. It can fix problems that you do not want to run into later. I also have received radio for repair where the customer simply did not see something. It is best to have customer show you the problem but it is not always that easy. Good video as always.

    these problems were not existing when processors and other devices were mask programmed in the factory. Users used the same configuration for 30-40 years without problems or glitches.

    These are notorious for resistor frontend burn when in presence of very strong signal at the antenna, using AMP1 or 2 actually bypass that resistor and make it alive again. I would check if the frontend resistor is still OK.

      You know that the R1005 is a 10 Watt resistor which is only switched in the signal path for 12 dB attenuation. That means that this path is not active with IPO ...

    • @vk6radio
      @vk6radio 7 місяців тому

      Peter maybe the fault described below is not the fault you were looking at?
      I am talking about the rig seems to be deaf with IPO on due to blown R1005 150 ohm on USA version rig.
      On Ft991 USA version R1005 is 150 ohm 1/10th watt smd resistor.
      If R1005 is blown and the IPO is selected the rig appears deaf.
      Info for consideration below
      It can be seen that the Attenuator circuit is formed with a 150Ω and 68Ω resistor voltage divider that is comprised of R1005 and R1012. When the Attenuator is disabled, the 150Ω R1005 is shorted by relay contacts and the 68Ω R1012 is removed from the circuit by relay contacts. The failure mode is due to the 150ohm R1005 opening up and breaking the signal path.
