I use the easy climb on my own to ascend with a prussik knot on my harness so I step up then Sit down to ascend. I use another line and abseil down. So you always have two lines attached and the prussik knot is a safety both ways.
DANGEROUS. Don't follow this. The attached line should not be done using shackles (nor a bowline) use a double figure eight. Also, the safety line done like this is very dangerous as one slip from the crew and you fall. Better to run a prussik up a second line OR if they are trained, have the crew wearing a harness with a proper belay device. Also, the safety line should really be a climbing rope so it has some spring to break the fall.
Yesterday, I went up the mast of a friend's boat using one of these. It was super easy and everyone was amazed, can't recommend enough. thanks.

One problem, never trust your life to a snap shackle !
Or the loop that holds the shackle. Should have tied two bowlines.
Why not use a climbing aider ?
two people darn.
