- Valerie Mountain & The Eagles perform "Some People" from the film of the same name. 1962. Always loved Valerie's strident vocal and that calliope (steam piano)...which seems to play itself at times. I've dubbed music transcribed directly from my 45 over the clip. I am very grateful to Valerie Mountain's daughter for the photo of her mother.

These scenes were filmed in the hall of Filton church in South Gloucestershire. Part of the filming clashed with the weekly bell ringing practice, and you can hear the end of a piece, with someone failing to stand their bell, as the "kids" walk into the hall later on in the film. My dad was one of the ringers.
Drove through Filton last week and was blissfully unaware! Many thanks, I'll make a point of listening out for the rogue chime.
Saw this at the age of 14 when it was released. The song stayed in my mind since then.
Was interesting for me since I grew up in Bristol & there were lots of locations I knew.
Delighted to bring the good memories back. I was in Bristol yesterday, and I'll be back tomorrow - including here: ua-cam.com/video/-wEi_rYJnGM/v-deo.html
Yesbn too late
Always loved this film - and this song in particular. Not an 'all time great' film, but it has stuck with me (loved the fact the organ kept on playing in the song when the organist was dancing). I knew I recognised the character of Anne (girl behind the coffee bar) but it was some time before I remembered why the name Anneke Wills was so familiar (Polly Wright in Doctor Who - who famously wore her own clothes as she didn't like the BBC costumes)
One of my favourite songs. Hadn't heard that about Anneke, although the first female companion of the Dr I can remember is 'Zoe'.
very nice, thanks for sharing 🎉🎈🎈🎈
...an old favourite.
Fond memories for me as a kid
Delighted!
Just amazing little video... Love the sound.. Love the posting.
Thanks, a special song. That calliope 'bird-twitter' is one of my favourite musical moments. Angela ('Carry On') Douglas is miming in the clip.
Love the que from the Director to split and perform her solo dance!
"Okay Angie love, I'm going to need you to go from there to here. And do something daft".
All thumbs up...!!!
...an old favourite.
Absolutely superb
Delighted others like this one as much as me.
The good times are gone but its great looking back realizing how simple and crazy life was then compared to the mad stuff that is going on here now..
🙌🌠
An Interesting One To Look At.
Especially The Musical Instruments.
And Style.
Always had a fascination with this song.
Kenneth More agreed to work for scale because he approved of the film's promotion of The Duke of Edinburgh Award.
On the set Moore and Angela Douglas, who was twenty six years his junior, met and later marry.
The marriage would end in his death.
Thanks for the info, this clip has some interesting back stories.
The backing band came South Bristol. They went to Connaught Road Comprehensive. The formed at a local youth club called Eagle House hence the name The Eagles. As I went to Eagle house youth club when I was 14.I used to hear them playing. The good old days.
Nice! I didn't know about the origin of their name. Thanks.
Ah, but the little organ was actually played by Ron Grainer, who went on to compose the famous Dr Who theme, which in turn was actually created by the genius Delia Derbyshire using magnetic tape recorders, as synthesizers were yet to become available... and the band on this tune were in fact The Eagles, from Bristol, who, weirdly, were part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme... its a brilliant/ dreadful movie (depending on your opinion on UK Rock n Roll) I saw maybe 50 years ago and has stuck with me ever since.
Yes, yes, and yes. A lot of important and interesting connections going on in this clip. I only caught up with this film 14 years ago. Not very convincing guitar playing...
I like the film story, and also its music played by The Eagles (British).
Thanks, one of my favourite songs and film clip.
The Eagles were a group from Bristol
@@ronwot Aside from The Eagles (Brits), I also like The Shadows; and The Jumping Jewels [of Netherlands].
You see Anneke Wills who played a Doctor Who assistant here.
Ah! I never realised she was the assistant during the Frazer Hines era.
I saw this on the TV c1971. It seemed very dated then, but now looks rather with it.
....improved with age!
❤️👍
Remembr this from 1962/3 . - A lively bouncy tune perfectly playd &sung😊 , not a hit but got good airplay - on th PYE label. I later found th Ext Play mentiond & stil hav it. Jet Harris. did a cover version pn Decca, but his voice
doesnt match V M's , or th clever organ / calliope ? playing.
Delighted to bring the memories back for you. One of my big favourites. The Jet Harris version is the one I knew first, but VM's is the definitive version for me. And don't forget Carol Deene's version.
Valerie Mountain’s song style is like that of Helen Shapiro’s.
Yes, strong and low.
V M's voice clear & strong. I Loved this - from 1962.😊
Love this video and the song. I think we all know a lot about the main characters but what about the girl behind the bar, who was she and what became of her?
Delighted! It's Anneke Wills, who went on to be Dr Who's assistant a few years later.
I met Anneke a few years later, about 30 years later, she is a lovely woman & we had a bit of a chinwag
She was in The pleasure girls and was Anthony Quayles daughter in t vs Strange Report
Gee, a Madison, how nice *. . .*
...well, it's some sort of line dancing.
I,m sitting on my sofa dancing with one .
Liz Durham
...and why not - enjoy!
Who sings this song? Interesting voice
It's Valerie Mountain - that's her picture at the end of the video. Actress Angela Douglas is miming in the video clip. Thanks for your interest in this.
@@SirBasildeBrush thank you too
I've tried to look for info about the band because it often sounds like the Shadows, esp guitar, not so much this song but other songs in the movie. Of course when I go searching all I get is the US band (which I love) but not helpful.
A very talented band who never quite got the recognition they deserved.
The keyboardist went on to father two Scots boys, The Proclaimers...
:-)
Is that Ray Brookes and David Hemmings on guitar?
@@chasleask8533 Yes, but not actually playing !
Is that actually Craig and Charlie's dad??
Don't really understand why people are liking my comment I'm asking a question
Please, where i see the complete film ??
They show it on the "Talking Pictures" TV channel
@@stevezodiac5768 i mean, a web site, please !!!
could buy it cheap on ebay :)
You can download the movie using utorrent here : yts.lc/movie/some-people-1962
The film was to promote the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and Keneth More starred in it too. I went to see it in the local cinema and as a result bought the 45rpm EP from the film. There is Really catch y instrumental on it called Bristol Express as the movie was supposed to be in the Bristol area with cafe racers etc. Those were the days - We had the best years !
Not the famous Eagles from America; these Eagles were from Bristol.
...exactly.
Not in sync very well, she looks like she's miming in parts to me.
Yes, Angela Douglas is miming in the clip to Valerie Mountain. Although I have dubbed the 45 version onto this clip, the sync is no better in the movie.
it's not trad dad
Seriously the worst organ sound ever!
...but I love it. Quite a woodwind sound, like a fluttering flute at the fade out.
@@SirBasildeBrush I've got to admit the more I play it...its beginning to grow on me lol
Maybe that's because it's not an organ. It's a calliope! :-)
