  • Optimising Your Studio Setup with ZowieTek Products: My Personal Journey
In this video, I explore setting up a studio using ZowieTek products, focusing on NDI (Network Device Interface) equipment. This post provides key insights, challenges, and improvements encountered in my transition to NDI.
    Studio Arrangement & Equipment
    Maintaining a Tidy Workspace
AutoPoles Over Tripods: Keeps cables managed, reduces tripping hazards, and maintains a professional look.
Manfrotto Magic Arm & Hague Motorised Pan-Tilt System: Supports a Sony A6000 and ZowieCam, allowing remote camera angle adjustments for convenience.
    Camera & Monitor Setup
Sony A6000 & ZowieCam: Connected via ZowieBox with HDMI output to a single monitor. An HDMI switch allows easy camera selection.
Mirrored Presenter Setup: Ensures consistency in visuals and simplifies production management.
Tally Light on ZowieBox: Provides a clear cue when live, helping maintain eye contact.
    Multi-View Setup
Multi-View Display: A large TV powered by a micro PC running NDI Tools ensures proper eyeline alignment from a seated position.
    Audio & Lighting Setup
    Audio Configuration
Behringer U-Phoria Interface: Connects two pod mics to the 4K vMix machine, with a backup recorder for safety.
Micro PC for NDI Tools: Assists in monitoring various production aspects.
    Lighting Setup
Rotolight Neo's & Neewer 600 Lights: Provide consistent and adjustable lighting.
Pixapro Ziggy Backlight Strips & Ledgo 600's: Enhance depth despite limited lighting conditions. The Sony A6000’s APS-C sensor and 50mm f1.8 lens ensure clear images.
Challenges & Improvements with ZowiePTZ Camera
    Initial Challenges
Slow Focus: Initially, the ZowiePTZ camera took 10 seconds to focus when zoomed in, disrupting production.
    Firmware Update & Improvements
Focus Time Reduced: A firmware update improved focus time to six seconds, showing ZowieTek’s commitment to enhancements.
Lighting Adjustments: The 1/2.3-inch sensor struggles in low light, necessitating gain and sharpness tweaks.
    Conclusion & Future Plans
I am overall satisfied with my setup and ZowieTek’s affordability. Improvements are needed for the PTZ camera, but ZowieTek’s innovation makes quality equipment accessible.
    Future Testing & Optimisation
I will continue testing the ZowieCam and ZowiePTZ for better performance. I encourage viewers to ask questions, and I’ll respond as best I can.
This video demonstrates the potential of NDI in studio setups, particularly with affordable ZowieTek products. The ZowieBox remains a favourite of mine.
Stay tuned for updates and feel free to reach out with any questions or comments!
