Tom Feldman teaches the Fred McDowell gospel/slide masterpiece "Jesus Is On The Mainline" in Open D tuning. From the DVD "Bottleneck Gospel Guitar." More info at stefan-grossma...
Man! How do you sing and play the melody simultaneously?!?!
Harder than patting my head and rubbing my stomach. Amazing!
Start with humming the notes you’re playing, it’s not that hard in that case
I LOVE this sound... dig this song.... NICE JOB TOM. I liked this song so much I ordered the DVD .
IM SO DOING THIS
I have the same style O as you bro! Your lessons are the best. I worked up a great versions of Death Letter and Robert Johnson cause of your great tutoring!
thanks Tom, great stuff
Ry does a great job i've seen this played by 2 guitarists who traded verses back and forth with the 2nd git doing chords like a fat c > fat F>down 3 frets ,..cycling this and a loader vocal So, 1rst git slides the load voice with soft bluesy vocal etc.
@batscat1. Very kind words! Thank you.
Awesome !!
Jesus main is on the mainline.!
So good.
Fred is my hero no sweat
Man I lost two cds of his I bought way back off cd baby. What was the name of his band. Took me until walking this morning to finally remember Tom Feldman. Years bruh. The band is his name and like revival or carnival or something. Anybody, Tom? I gotta get those lps. Love em.
maybe you mean: Tom Feldmann & the Get-Rites.
Mississippi Fred McDowell recorded it in the 60's.
WoW ♪ Sweet!
very good, ta
Tom, just love this song. Nice Work...Very keen to play it...but I get confused which of the 1st and 2nd strings you're playing in the riff because you only use you pointer finger to pick those strings. Can't make it out on the video.Does the progression start with a pinch...6th and 2nd strings?any idea where I can find a tab?
You can get the tab from Bottleneck Gospel Guitar taught by Tom Feldmann DVD ( Stefan Grossmann guitar workshop )
I heard this first by Ry Cooder:
Me too
Great stuff Tom. One question: What type of slide are you using; brass?
Glass.
Could you do a tab for us? I'm not that good to figure it out hearing and watching. :(
You have to buy the DVD lesson and they come with a PDF that have tabs for every song in lesson. You can order from the link in the description.
Its in open E or D. Either tuning works.
I would use open E on an electric guitar and open D on an acoustic one. The tension of open E tuning is hard on an acoustic guitar
hi got your free tabs, question? dose the note on the 5th fret come in on the 2nd measure on the high e? or is it a 0 like the tab says?
at some places where the tab says open 1st string (D), Tom plays 5th fret on second string which again is D
@@mishaikin Dflattened
@@mishaikin 5th
@@peterrecchia9279 open 2nd string is A, then 5th fret on this 2nd string is the root D, not D flat
@@mishaikin maybe the D on his guitar came down a little when he played this version ,I believe you have the correct tab
Where do you get these shirts?
Western outfitters.
TUNE ! ?!?!?
What is the guitar tuned in? Open D?
Yes
@@peterrecchia9279 thank you. It’s good to have your suspicions confirmed.
blind willie johnson would be proud
A person who is fluent in the blues. I was not sure who originally recorded it
да здрайствует американский друг научи меня так играть я правда гитару себе еще не приобрел но пальцы уже вовсю дрыгаються
