Whoever played bubbles had the absolute best character development I’ve ever seen. No one portrays pain, struggle and resilience like he did. Even his silent scenes touched you.
Andre Royo is the actor's name.
@Young Beige When you think about actors being absolutely perfect for a role, Andre Royo as Bubbles has to be at the top of that list.
@Young Beige That makes so much sense. He portrays the perfect character who is stuck in a game and has no other option but to play through. He knows like the most of common people that if he gives up no one will ever care. Yet he can see through the folly of system.
Young Beige And when he says ‘thin line between here and heaven’ it says so much. And yes like Micheal, the same is with so many characters. They are all on a journey. Everyone changes but McNulty & Bunk.

It took me years after not watching the show to realize their natural voices weren’t “American” so to speak. Blew my mind when I heard Idris talk naturally for the first time, it felt like everything is known was a lie 😂😂😂

I was watching the commentary on the DVD and the different cast members were talking about who they originally auditioned for . Corey Parker Robinson " , "Sydnor" said he had originally auditioned for the role of "Bubbles" and Dominic West said "uh , that would have been awful" He was right one of the strengths of the show was how perfectly each character was cast and you can't imagine anyone else playing the part .

"Are you the best actor to come out of the wire"?.
What kind of question is that to publicly ask someone?
A gay one
It’s a really dumb question yeah.
The set up
Super dumb. If he says yes he looks like a jackass. And if he actually names who he thinks is the best, he risk insulting all the other actors on the show. Wtf
Who is this guy and how did he get this gig for the interview? He’s probably had weeks to come up with some insightful questions and this comes out…smh
I was watching a 'making of' documentary type show and some of the actors were remarking how little love the Emmys had for The Wire and a few said that they thought that Andre Royo (Bubbles) was the member of their cast most deserving of acclaim. I got the feeling that sentiment was shared by a lot of people involved in the making of this wonderful show.
Method Man was HIGHLY UNDERRATED in The Wire. It never even registered as Method Man playing Cheese…He was just Cheese…
Method Man is an underrated actor in general; whether he's doing comedy or drama, he's consistently great.
You're absolutely right! Well said!
Where Cheese go to enlist?
He was such a vicious, weaselly, unlikeable character. Every scene 'he' was in, I hated 'him'. Great acting by Method Man, I have to say!
He was called Wagstaff tho. That name sounds hilarious
For me I liked Avon the best. When you see how Avon dealt with people compared to Marlo you see the difference between being respected over feared.
Yam spot on ay ya!
Wood Harris bought a natural smoothness to the role. He truly made Avon feel like That Guy!
Avon was "old school" and respected backbone. He wanted the COACH to stand up to him. Marlo represent the "new school" and had the SECURITY GUARD killed for standing up to him.
Its impossible to pick a best actor because they were all incredible
have to agree on that - its really down to nitpicking, if u seriously have to choose.
The fact that I can read through all the top comments and see several main characters listed as the "best actor/actress" just speaks to how good the cast was.
And the thing is that every character had something to offer, it's not about who was the best but the combination of all of them.
Everyone in The Wire did great

You can tell every actor in the Wire is truly unforgettable because literally everyone in the comments is naming someone completely different. And they're all absolutely correct. There wasn't a single performance on that show that felt phoned-in whatsoever. And when you wanna talk about child-actors that make every other child-actor *ever* look mild at best? The Wire has got you covered there too! The child\young teen performances were the arguably the greatest to ever grace television. Characters like Michael and Dukie were undeniably out of the freakin world!
There were plenty of great performances in The Wire, but Dominic West was my favourite. His character showed so much range, including being drunk half the time.
Lol well he was drunk half the time and going against authority supposedly sober the rest of the time. I’m not sure that shows much range. I don’t disagree he was great but so were many other people in the show.
@@1chienandalou He had some scenes where he showed his vulnerable side as well. Not many of the characters had that range of emotions.
I recently introduced a friend to the wire, when I was giving him the box set I told him that two of the best characters were a snitch and a gay man with a shotgun. He didn't believe me and said in that case i won't like them. When he was not even half way through season 1 he changed his mind. The Wire is deep man. Easily my favourite tv show, EASILY

Can't really pick a best, but I think D-Angelo (Larry Gilliard) _might_ be the best actor on The Wire. Maybe it's just because he was such a good dude - I don't know. Bubs (Andre Royo) has to be mentioned as well - if you didn't tear up during his speech at the end, you ain't got no soul!

Plus, she went to Prison for Murder at age 14. And her later drug arrest for heroin and cocaine. She's a ruthless narcissist and sociopath who wrote a book pretending not to be. The book was written years before her arrest and nth time being in Prison for buying and selling heroin. There's a documentary about black lesbian identity on Kanopy and they show her hamming it up and wasting the film's time. She's tiresome, and I pity whomever bought her book and has not caught onto her true evil nature.
Idris Elba and that accent😍😩 omg
This man had to adopt an accent that wasn't his own and for the most part did it convincingly. That gives him an edge over Michael K. Williams. Omar was still a more fun character to watch and had awesome lines. All the actors were great. Brother Mouzone is underrated. That cat gave me chills from his frostiness.

It's hard to believe he changed his accent completely and went all west Baltimore. He sounds totally different in the wire you'd of never known he was British
Bubbles was the best actor in the cast in my opinion, he was just epic.
The Gerard death scene!
Wood Harris most underrated actor in history
He’s literally just himself in everything I’ve ever seen him in. He’s an AWFUL actor. Think about all the good shit Avon gets to do - actor wise. I’m talking an actor getting a bunch of chances at acting in important yet different scenes that would set you apart if you’re a great actor. You get that role and if you’re good then movie time. He wasn’t good though. Think about it. He gets to play a gangster and asan actor he gets to go to prison, he gets out of prison, we see him as he gets caught and stays with him for a good while while he realizes he’s never getting out of jail, deciding to kill his best friend. He got so much stuff an actor dreams of and blew it by sucking. Michael Williams got so much less than him, at least before they realized wood Harris can’t fucking act, in which case they cut him out and gave Omar a great final showing. The fact that he can instantly convey any emotion with tears, the accent (if wood were a better actor he’d have lost his ducking ny accent and tried the one everyone else was doing), the mannerisms. Omar has some pretty good lines but not really in the first season. He had just enough to show the talent of Williams which gave him more to do later. Wood Harris is straight trash. And the dude who played marlo missed out on something most great actors will do, but that’s understandable given he gave all his free time and brain space towards being a 50 cent knockoff. He forgot you still need to give your character something redeeming. Something that makes you at least think, ok I see now. No. We never see anything that ever gives you an idea of why people would not only accept his behavior but like him enough to be loyal at the start. I get fear comes in, but that only works after you’ve found people. Never do I understand why anyone would have ever liked this dude pre money which means how did he even get to where he is with nobody. He’s the worst character I’ve ever seen. He’s straight xpac heat his entire duration of the show. He’s get off my fucking screen heat. Avon is at least likable enough at times where you see how people became his buddy. But that’s nothing to do with wood Harris skill. If anything playing himself again reinforces his awfulness.
R.I.P Michael "Mickey" Williams.
Bubbs, carcetti, bell and mcnulty were all great but damn dude bodie did a brilliant job with his acting imo

He played a major, iconic, fascinating character on one of, if not THE best dramatic television program in history. I'm sure part of his realizes people can't help but wanting to know more about The Wire and bring it up. He's part of something so legendary that new people are discovering all the time. It's going to live on in people's minds for ages.
Probably since he most likely won't ever achieve sth bigger than the Wire and if he got that mindset, it can really hurt being reminded of that. Also makes you feel old.
Jan Henrik sure. That's a possibility, but ultimately I think he finds it very fulfilling to know that his acting legacy is tied to such a great character in an iconic show that will be revered long after he's died.

IIRC Wood Harris said one of the things about being an actor on The Wire is that the show and the cast members did not start to gain recognition until it was finished.
