My God! God bless you my bhother. I love the sound of Duduk but, i don´t have money to buy. I´m brasilian. I'll try to do, thank you brother and congratulations.
I must admit, I thought I would sound rubbish, but I was astounded how good that sounded. Lol. Really great job. Thanks for sharing. You made me smile today 😆
SO MANY THANKS! For years I've searched for measurements and instructions on how to make a duduk. Thanks for sharing! As with many things in life, player is the most important aspect on getting a good result, and you're an incredible player that makes it look too easy!
I think you are a magician. You make it looks so easy. I've tried and tried to make the rred, and cant get a sound out of it. And mine looks so misshapen despite my best efforts. This tells me how good you actually are! And what great playing!
Many thanks for the detailed plans - that'll be very helpful. I actually have a traditional duduk, but I can't get replacement reeds without paying about as much as a whole new instrument. I've just checked the measurements, and I should be able to adapt this polypipe reed to fit (inside) my duduk. Problem solved!
Here's a little tip to save you some irritation: attach that anvil to a piece of plywood with some bolts (countersunk type, pointing upward so the underside is smooth). To the underside of the plywood, attach a piece of ordinary 2x lumber so it makes a "T" in cross section. When you want to use the anvil, tighten the lower 2x piece in the vise so it doesn't squirm around the bench.
Duduk in the language I just made up means "this was a great youtube video, very informative", so this really ended up working out as a great coincidence
thank you Linsey! I have made my own experiments after finding the original idea video, but now I am inspired to try again.. you did add some things.. I then tried to make reeds for duduks I have from georgia and armenia, but didnt quite get them good enough, though they where playable.. ma by with more hammering experiments I could get them better.. have also tried to make the original reed version, a georgian builder once showed me the whole process.. fascinating! but they are v e r y tricky to get them working well..
OMG I think this is my dreamed instrument🤤😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks a lot for sharing this video and the instrument that makes our inner voices be heard🤤🤤🤤🤤🙌🖤 Greetings from Costa Rica
Wow, Lindsey, that's some interesting duduk!! Thanks! As I don't have the tools to make one, would it be possible to ship one to me? Awesome jobs you do! And your playing is fab! 👍🎶
This is incredible, and it sounds beautiful! I'm wanting to make one of my own, but it's pretty difficult to find poly pipe in these dimensions here in the States, thanks to us still rejecting the metric system *facepalm* How would you recommend going about experimenting with hole placement and dimensions to find the right spots? The closest thing I can get my hands on to 12mm ID pipe will be 1/2 inch which is just a little too big, do you think I could work with that and these hole placements and still get somewhere close to decent intonation?
if youre still wondering, start with smaller holes, try about 4 mm or whatever is less than 7 but not absurdly small, then once the instrument is finished, try the low note and make sure its in tune, then then first hole, make that in tune, then the next and so on, getting each hole in tune before starting the next, to pick where to make a hole, try and scale it up with the tube
I read up on this a bit and the radius/diameter _do_ actually affect the pitch somewhat in real life: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_correction Since the frequency is determined from the effective length basically. For a closed pipe: DeltaL == 0.6 * r = 0.3 * D where DeltaL is the extra length added on from the physical length of the pipe. So in short for a wider tube you need to slightly shorten the distances by some calculable amount I suppose, and vice versa for a narrower one.
Brilliant video thank you! Duduk is one of my favourite instruments, i’m definitely giving this a go. Lovely playing too! Do you do any remote session work?! :)
Hello, very nice and amazing sound, innovative and genius, when you listen to the the real sound of authentic Armenian duduk made out of aged Apricot and made by experienced master, in real nothing can imitate the sound of real duduk. Greetings from heart of Armenia, sound was closed enough !
ThankU I love the dound. Yani's Orchestra has a Musician who plays a 3000 year old Duduk. I'm looking at purchasing my daughter an Armenian professional Duduk. She plays the Flute x 18 years
Heard you on the melb radio yesterday and very much enjoyed it. Did realise you were in Tanzes Fancy a very inspirational group 4 me. This video is excellent many thanks
thanks, I will try again ... already the past years I had purchased some black tube (curved though) and I tried to do it, with little success ... now I could try again, just in these days I tried to make the mouth thinner, and a trumpet-like sound comes out ... but not as beautiful and melodious as yours ... but I guess it is very much a question of ability to play instruments ... however I am going to buy one from Armenia with ebay. ..
Nice, but you could give us the length of the tube without the bit that makes the sound. I mean the length and locations of the holes in millimeters from top to bottom and also the back hole. And finally, the type of tube you used to make the playing piece I hope you answer and thank you
Very Nice! Living in the US the “normal” pipe we get here is .5 ID and .7 OD. Would you have a method to convert the measurements? They are pretty close. Thanks
I don't have a method for conversion, but if the dimensions of the pipe are close then use my measurements and then adjust them on the 2nd attempt. ie: if the note is too sharp move the hole further down the tube, if it's too flat move it further up the tube
The reed pipe is ordinary 1/2" drip irrigation pipe; I don't know what the body pipe is. It looks like a double layer, with a translucent pipe inside the black one. We've got PEX in the US, so maybe that's all it is.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial. I bought all parts from Bunnings, but have been trying to make the reed for a couple of weeks now, with no luck :( no matter how I hammer, it will not produce sound. Any chance of another tutorial on what to do if the reed does not produce sound? cheers
Nice sound , easy to do as explained in your video. I have been hitting the pipe to make the reed but I can not flat it enough. I have used a press to try an flat it, I even applied heat to it and can not make it flat so no sound comes out of it. Do you have any tip you can give to address this?
Hi, I live in germany and want to do make a duduk. unfortunatly, I didnt find a shop, selling this materials, like that pex pipe. But I found one, what sell normal pvc pipes with 12mm ID and 16mm OD. Can I use any plastic pipe or does it need to be the original like in the video? I have issues finding a pipe, I can hammer to make the reed. What kind of material or what kind of pipe do I need. Iam not quite familiar with the term "garden irrigation" pipe, so I dont know, how to explain it to the hardware store in german language. Can you help me out please? I really want to have my own, selfmade duduk.
Hi. The kind of plastic hose needed is made from polyethylene, which is strong but flexible. PVC would break very easily and won't work at least for the reed, probably it will for the body. Rubber hoses neither are suitable as they wouldn't retain the reed shape. That's the brilliant idea of this duduk, using poly-pipe for the reed.
Danke.
Is polypipe the same as pex in the us? I tried this with pex scraps because I wanted to use the reed to make a hichikiri, but no dice. Even if I filed it or shaped it, no sound.
I followed the instructions. So, it actually works, but the sound is more like a crying duck rather than duduk :/ I still use it quite often because it's easier to practice on it since it requires much less air
Anyone swedish who knows what kind of pipe the reed pipe would match? Have tried some options but so far everything is not formable enough or too rigid and cracks (even with heat)
I really want rto make this instrument but i live in belgium and nowone here knows what polypipe is. Anyboddy who knows an other name for or an online shop where i can buy it?
You sir, are a freaking genius.
This is the best diy duduk I have seen ..... thanks for showing us the making of it . Sound exactly like the duduk .
You made me smile today 😆
absolutely unreal!!!!! WOW
No wo der he is called the whistling buddha in my uni
Thats because the material doesnt really affect the sound.
You dont know what you talking about@@user-rj9pc9px8n
Perfect idea for staying inside! Learn a new instrument that produces a very soothing sound.
My thoughts at this very moment lol. I shall go get started

I wasn’t planning on actually making it till you mentioned the exact pipe to get from Bunnings 😭 Thanks
Duduk is Indonesian for "sit". I wouldn't want to sit on this but it makes you sit and listen
Duduk in the language I just made up means "this was a great youtube video, very informative", so this really ended up working out as a great coincidence
This is great, but I think your copper duduk (from another video) sounds even better.
thank you Linsey! I have made my own experiments after finding the original idea video, but now I am inspired to try again.. you did add some things.. I have always wanted a duduk to play that one lullaby from Narnia, thank you for helping me do so!
This is a must do project. I already tried to do a duduk, always in the wrong way. Its xmas. Im excited!!!
thank you so much ! perfect idea the double reed with the tube !
you're the only one to purpose this !!
You're the best Linsey! Can't wait to try!
OMG I think this is my dreamed instrument🤤😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks a lot for sharing this video and the instrument that makes our inner voices be heard🤤🤤🤤🤤🙌🖤 Greetings from Costa Rica
Interesting, I’ve tried making a reed from the handle of a milk jug but never went anywhere with it. Now I’m tempted to make a keyed version of this!
Amazing instrument and beautifully played.
A beautiful mellow sound. Well done!
Very nice vibrato - well played mate!
You, sir, are a genius! Loved your work for a long time.
Great Duduk hack & beautiful playing. Thank you!
Your knowledge is so refreshing! Thanks. Close up on parts and list of hole bore size measurements would be helpful.
Wow, Lindsey, that's some interesting duduk!! Thanks!
As I don't have the tools to make one, would it be possible to ship one to me?

Linsey Pollak that’s a shame! I will follow with interest!

Pedro Eustache, from Venezuela, is that duduk player
I'll love to make this. Excellent as a project during COVID lockdown.
Amazing, thanx for this 😁
ooo, souds wonderful.
Fantastic work!
Truly an inspiration. This is bafflingly simple!
Wow! Thank you
Su vídeo es genial ❤
Armenian Duduk has a magical sound.
eres un genio!!
This is b-r-i-l-l-i-a-n-t !!! you should sell them online :) I'd buy one right away
I will make them for sale linsey@spiderweb.com.au
Så many thanks for your genial idea🙂
Thanks Linsey!
My friend, thank you so much! i'm going to create a duduk from viraró wood taking your meassurements. Greetings from Argentina 🙌🏾💙

you sound beautiful! thank you for sharing
I tried, But I have failed. Now, I'm terribly sad. I can't sleep
I can't even get past the reed. No sound coming from it 😪
Gracias desde Salamanca Mexico
Genius
Know what I'm doing this weekend. Thanks :)
Usted es un verdadero maestro, muchas gracias por el material que comparte. Abrazos desde un rincón entre el océano y la cordillera 🙌🏽✨🤗
Brilliant, thanks for sharing
If the reed and body were all made from one piece of pipe, construction would be simpler. However, how would it affect the sound?
The instrument will warm up with breath and go flat due to material expansion, so it's practical to have it slide in and out to compensate.
Tanks you so much, from colombia muchas gracias
Awesome. Okay I got a challenge for you: PVC Aulos/Auloi would be badass.
too cool. it sounds beautiful
Fantastic video I can't wait to make one
Wow!! Amazing!!!❤❤❤
Fantastic instrument, although I must ask... what is that at the back right edge of your table at 5:26 ?? lol
The Dildophone Mk 69.

Brilliant!
Amazing, great
I gotta do this! Thanks!
Unfortunately the irrigation polypipe dose not flat in order to make the reed, any other material we can use
this is amazing!!!!
that look at the end haha u know im gonna make a few
Oh so beautiful!!

Yeah i have problems with the "reed" too
By cylindrical tube the waves would be square, right, sir?
Is ‘polypipe’ the brand? I tried to look a translation for it up so I can know what to look for in the Netherlands, but all I got was a company.
I followed the instructions. So, it actually works, but the sound is more like a crying duck rather than duduk :/ I still use it quite often because it's easier to practice on it since it requires much less air
no words
I tried to make one, but mine just sounds off and im not sure why
In the UK suppliers only seem to sell 15mm and 22mm pex piping. Any ideas on how this could be used or a work around? Great sound.
look for thinner walled pipe than PEX tube (domestic garden irrigation pipe)
Great work! Any suggestions for sheet music suited for this limited octave range?
May I ask with which formula u calculate the placers for the fingerholes?
How long does this reed last? Before it wears out losing proper sound, needing to be replaced. Thank you!
Would it be possible to make a bassoon in a similar way?
Insta sub Waaaaaaaaaaaaauw, very nice!!!
