I'm happy for Brian that he lived to see his grade in music changed from an 'F' to an 'A', courtesy of the new principal at Hawthorne High.( He wrote 'Surfin' instead of a sonata in his senior year in 1960, and failed the class-- what a shitty teacher he must've had!) And he's still going strong at 80!! You rock, Brian!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎼🎶🎵🎶🎼😸😺😸🇬🇧🐨🇺🇸
That is mind blowing that any teacher…. anyone at all could give Brian Wilson an F in music. Clearly the teacher was deaf. Or based the grade on something other than his music abilities. 🤯🎶🎶
Nope, Fred Morgan gave him an F because he didn't turn in what the course required. Morgan said it was good - legend has it it was either an early version of "Surfin'" or "Surfer Girl" - but it wasn't the required sonata, so - automatic fail. Morgan was interviewed for the 1976 TV special, and was a much loved and respected teacher at HH.
@@paulforder591 Bit harsh 😄 His job was to educate pupils regarding song form and composition, not popular culture. He did right to fail Brian as his submitted work wasn't a sonata as required, and Morgan's job was to ensure his pupils could comprehend what a sonata is
I had an idiot band director in junior high. He had the weirdest egotistical and girlish personality and always making smart remarks. Brilliance is always put down from egotistical teachers. Thank God for geniuses like Brian that transcend the average. 😁
Brian Wilson is the single greatest creative influence on our Founder, Kevin Kukk, who was also failed in both art & science classes. Ironcally, all of our awesome designs and product R&D was created by Kevin. See you soon, California. 🌊🌱
He truly didn’t care. Brian was a jokester in high school. The assignment was to write a sonata, and he handed in “Surfin”. Sounds like Brian trolling the guy as he has been known to do
Brian Wilson went to Hawthorne HS because this video is him going to his former HS before he went on the road for the Chicago / Brian Wilson Summer Tour 2022
I feel bad for the teacher. This principal publicly calls him “horrible” and all the comments here are just trashing him. Watch the 1976 It’s OK special, he seemed like a good guy. Brian never seemed upset about it, but as usual his fans are. It’s such an overreaction
Brian Wilson got an F in MUSIC?!?!?! Brian Fucking Wilson got an F in music. I'll be... The inventor of modern pop and rock music got an F in music. SMDH. Just.... wow. That new Principle did the right thing. And they should change the name of the school to "Brian Wilson High School." That would fix all the problems in this silly world. I'm a graduate of Brian Wilson School of Music. Love you, Brian.
I'm a nervous person just like Brian Wilson. I can feel his anxiety and hesitance. I'm available to help him if he wants to contact me. I'm only looking to make him feel better. I'm not that hard to find with a few clicks. And I don't cost him a thing.
@@MidosujiSen Mr. Morgan was a music teacher, but he often substituted anywhere that he was needed, so I knew him as a substitute. He was one of the original HHS teachers, like Coach Chauncey was, and they filled in, where needed. The Coach was my driver-training instructor, for a while. Mr. Morgan is still alive, I think, but I attended Coach's memorial after he passed recently at 99.
@@lennardvaarten7791 I don't think he was always like that because he'd talk from the stage very normal in the early 60s. The side mouth talk I think was a result of the drug use from the 60s.
“I’ve seen enough of this damn place.” 😂😂 Brian I think we all feel that way about our high schools.

I love that fragile minded genius. I just wanna bear hug him and thank him for his beautiful music

Morgan was a narrow--minded teacher--didn't have his finger on the pulse of popular music. 😝😛
it's pretty clear that teacher didn't get around.

I hope Brian really knows how beloved and well respected he is, God bless Brian and his family!
Musical legend. Always such a BEAUTIFUL soul :)
I couldn’t imagine life without Brian
I've seen them all but enjoyed this little outtake. Thanks.
Man I love Brian
Brian's 80th on June 20th Happy Birthday Brian.
Hopefully, 80 more !!! ❤️👍🏻
This is so special. I love this! 😭❤️
Thank you Brian ❤️
Love Brian.
How cool. I love Brian so much. He is an American Institution.
sweet sweet brian
Legend
What a great vignette!
Wow what a nice gesture ! Thank you for sharing this ! You deserve a « A » Brian ! 😀👍
A kind and well deserved gesture from HHS’ principal to change Brian Wilson’s grade. HHS Alum, Class of ‘84.
Why was this an outtake? It’s great

I wonder how that F really affected him. Did he use it as inspiration or did he just laugh at it after becoming a music legend?
A great good question in my opinion.
Laugh at it
@@manlymen552 yeah, probably lol. Well, at least I hope. Bri is very fragile.
I’m sure he was completely distraught over a highschool grade while he was making millions of dollars doing what he loved

What’s the name of the song playing in the background?
Right Where I Belong
Be still my ❤
The beginning of The Song reminds me of something that Phil Spector (his idol) would of done.
Song at the start in the background??
What is the background song

Landy all over again guys
They didn't understand 😮
Brain finally gets a well deserved A and his music teacher gets an F in the end.
Do miss Mike Loves take on this though
He's free to contact me. All I really want to share is LOVE. Just like him.
Brian is THE GENIUS..not "F"-ing teacher" Fred Morgan.
HHS class of 65
Mr. Morgan was a good teacher, if known as rather severe.
You had him as a teacher?

What’s wrong with his mouth ?? Talks out side of mouth
he's always done that, because he's been deaf in one ear since childhood and can apparently hear himself better that way
