Great video Guys, this is by far the best Linton-versus-Model 5 video to date! There are some who will prefer the Lintons but you have shown the 5’s are the more technically accomplished speaker. Thanks again!
Reposting....Had both. I really don't get how anyone with good associated gear could consider the Lintons an audiophile speaker. They sound rather dull with Class D, tubes and A/B. They do sound vintage and are friendly to weaker recordings. The Model 5's are a fully realized audiophile design packaged to LOOK vintage, but after that they offer greater detail and transparency. It's not really a close battle if you want speakers that offer superior clarity, image and timbre. I really think the lower price point of the Lintons drives a lot of people to (hope) believe that they are in the same league as the Model 5's. I had both paired with Rogue Cronus Magnum III, Nuprime IDA 16, Cambridge EVO150....the Model 5's are hands-down a superior audiophile speaker for anyone planning to build a serious system. The Model 5's are good enough to pair with higher end electronics while the Linton's are less likely to take advantage if you start upgrading. I kept the Model 5's. Other speakers in my systems...Magnepan, Kef, Duevel, Revel, etc.
From the sound clip comparisons I have heard, I completely agree. The Model 5's were head and shoulders above the Linton's. They were Capital Grille compared to McDonald's.
Robert, how do the Model 5's compare to the Magnepan and KEF and what models do you have of those as I have .7 and 1.7i maggies and am considering the Model 5, KEF R3 meta, Mofi Sourcepoint 8, Linton, ELAC, KLH Kendall original, etc? Asking in regards to mids and hi's as I have dual REL subs for the low end. Looking for less bright/sibilant/edgy speakers as I listen to a lot of classic rock and female vocals via Denafrips Pontus II DAC. Thanks
@@michaelcampbell9459 Properly set up the Model 5's will easily out resolve the Mofi's and Linton's. Those with more moderate power and sources would probably be okay with the Linton's. My Magnepan .7's are superior overall, but can't party the way the Model 5's, which are beautifully balanced and full range. I actually own the Kef R3's and they are fantastic with surprising bass and excellent resolution. The R3's are probably equal to the .7's for musicality and resolution and you might even prefer the imaging. I get a deeper soundstage with the .7's and a lot depends on the room and placement. Not familiar with Elac or Kendalls. If you find ANY good speaker edgy, the problem could also be with your electronics.
I would say that the room is a big factor here (well, it always is but you know what I mean). I auditioned both and had to bring the Lintons so far out into the out room to get a good sound but to a degree that just wasn't manageable. The KLH on the other hand hit the sweet spot for my room.
I might have missed it but did you try the linton's with the tweeters on the inside? manual says the wharfedale logo on the grills should face out... "The speakers should be positioned with treble units inwards, that is with the W badge on the grilles towards the outside."

They have a large fanbase because they were cheap and a Highseller, so many own those and hence biased, but they are not good speakers, sorry.
Nice! One point missing from your analysis: sub bass. Big plus for the Linton (as show on your own graf) In fact, the Linton go deep (35hhz) and a sub woofer is not needed for many listeners like me. Synergy is very important two. Going for a very detailed DAC do great thing on the Linton because it will not becoming fatiguing and you will ear more sparkles and details. Same with the amp... but I'm biased because I work with focal monitors and when I listen for pleasure I want less analytical sound and more lush and warm sound. The Linton are very good for listening to the songs instead of technical details. That is why I love them so much!
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! You are right we should have brought up the topic on bass. Not. KLH Model 5 won "speaker of the year 2021" on Jay's Iyagi channel, hes one of the more respected HIFI channels. The Model 5's are too bright in some rooms. Fatigue is a problem unless they're in a good damped room. The Linton's are superior in this regard. I'm pretty amazed at how little people know about audio. The room is your #1 speaker.
I am an older person and I don't like the Linton's. You may want to re think your stereotypes (pardon the pun). From the sound clips I have heard, the Model 5's were far and away the better speakers.
I see someone copied my name. Okay, well if you find the Model 5's bright, I suggest a proper listening room. If you have a poor room, then you'll have to settle for a speaker with less detail and dimension. My Model 5's are no brighter than my Magnepans, which are highly transparent and certainly not bright when paired to the right gear.
Short auditions do not tell much the KLH would give you fatigue the Linton's would be good for long listening. I bought speakers I ended up hating at first I was impressed but over time I hated them so your test is flawed.
lol comments are full of linton fanboys that are having buyers remorse. erin's audio corner video review of klh's vs lintons isn't relevant because he didn't place the speakers as the manufacturer recommended so his review is invalid when comparing klh vs lintons. this is a much more fair comparison of the two. just audio had no clear cut winner between the two, just preference
Guys, it’s an attenuator, not an adjustable crossover.
You can listen all day to the Lintons with no fatigue unlike the model 5

Robert, how do they compare to the maggies and what model do you have? For mids and hi's as I have dual REL subs. Thanks@@robertbrody4032
The images in the table are incorrect. - ua-cam.com/video/tLWWliTeOzs/v-deo.html
Someone else pointed it when it was released. Our video guy mixed it up but thank you for pointing it out.
thanks for nothing can we hear them?
Klh is hands down better sounding. Warm is just another word for dull sounding.
It's beautiful when you don't have to worry about $$$$, but wake up and smell the coffee... premium or cheap chalk full of beans...
You do know that the you have put the speakers the wrong way around on the score chart. 😮
左邊那位像KLH派來的業代!
Lintons come in three finishes. Mahogany, Walnut and Black Ash
Thank you! At the time mahogany was not available or at least here in Canada.
...Your graphics (pics) are backwards.
The verdict doesn't match the summary shown.
I hated the KLH’s too bright and fatiguing IMO.. Lintons easily for the win!! Their cheaper and just an overall better listening experience..
Thank you for sharing your experience. This one has many people divided.
Short auditions do not tell much the KLH would give you fatigue the Linton's would be good for long listening. I bought speakers I ended up hating at first I was impressed but over time I hated them so your test is flawed.
The 5 kills that doo doo Linton. No contest.
Aluminium,
Amps with loudness and treble / bass will fix up the linton. That’s what an amp is for…. The model 5 looks cheap and to detailed… or hot
The Linton's will mask the garage most people feed them. So they think they sound better than they are.
Garage?
Garbage 😮
lol comments are full of linton fanboys that are having buyers remorse.
erin's audio corner video review of klh's vs lintons isn't relevant because he didn't place the speakers as the manufacturer recommended so his review is invalid when comparing klh vs lintons. this is a much more fair comparison of the two.
just audio had no clear cut winner between the two, just preference
KLH Model 5 versus Wharfdale Model 4.5.... 😂
No rear ports! They suck. Ask my Cerwin Vegas.
