Lots of different sources used, but the Codex Mendoza was invaluable as a primary source, go check it out for many gorgeous old-school illustrations on Aztec life. Aztec weaponry notably made little use of metal, lots of wood and flecks of obsidian used instead - obsidian could inflict very horrible wounds but overall was probably not as lethal as steel - but it fit the Aztec focus on capturing enemies (presumably for human sacrifice, or at least slavery) rather than killing them all - and in fact that's how you rose through the ranks, by capturing lots of enemies rather than killing them. (And yes there is that account of a macuahuitl beheading a horse, but i could only really see that working in a sawblade fashion, not as one fell blow) I've chosen to make the loin cloth into a kind of sash or belt around each figure's war suit, contrary to pretty much all depictions (including the primary sources), but I just don't see how it would work any other way (unless the war suit had some kind of crotch hole for the loin cloth tie to stick out of). The papalotl's warpaint was meant to reference Itzpapalotl, the butterfly goddess, but this is artistic license since there's no clear connection between papalotl warriors and Itzpapalotl; we're not even sure if the back banner is supposed to be a butterfly. My otomitl's colour scheme and face paint looks disconcertingly like Kick-Ass - not consciously done but I guess it fits.
foojer hey mister. I was going through Instagram and I saw this add with YOUR Roman soldiers in an ad without giving you credits. They had 4 Roman soldiers “throughout “the ages and at the bottom there was a group of them with your Roman bodies you drew and different faces and spears. And they were fighting, what I guessed, were your Barbarians or Parthians. The ad was called the” Art if Conquest”
foojer cool, I have recently seen REALLY sketchy ads lately. So seeing that just popped out. Btw I think it’s very cool you made a video about the Aztec warriors because They didn’t really have a permanent Warrior clothing like in Europe. All the animals and colors and amazing. It was kinda funny when I showed my Mom, who is a Incan Native American, and she said “It’s ALWAYS about the Aztecs but it it about the Incas!!!” But she did like the video
FOR QUETZALCOATAL! Also thank you for using the correct term Mexica rather than ‘Aztec’ concerning how the word was used as an insult rather than just simply taking the easy way and using ‘Aztec’.
Well, I voted, and you did not dissapoint. I'm not particularly versed in Aztec fashions, neither for war or for peace, but I've done a little reading, and in my opinion, you have at the very least done a very beautiful set of drawings. Part of me feels a certain doubt that the varrying warrior classes would've looked so vastly different from one another, and that helmets would be used by the "middle" classes and not the higher ones. Of course, you reference your own artistic license both in the video and the description. I do still commend your, for the most part rather practical interpretations of the arms and armour used by the Aztecs(or any historical warriors, really). Your ideas regarding the loin cloth rings very strongly in this regard. I suppose a few comments on the art style itself is in order. ;) Your way of handling fabric and shades is, as I've said before, beautiful. The vibrant colours add so much character to the... well, characters. Regardless of my above mentioned doubts regarding so widely varrying formalized appearances among so many different warrior classes, I would love to see how such an army as the one you've portrayed would look in formation. A spectacular sight indeed. One aber, which I really have no constructive solution to, is the Jaguar warrior. He... sorta looks like he's in his pajamas. It might be due to the lack of texture on the war suit, something that is otherwise very strongly featured in all the other, with protruding shapes or feathers and what not. But... Yeah. I realize fur would've been hard to properly convey though. That said, the other war suits are very beautiful. During the first brushes of texture on the Eagle warrior's suit I felt very sceptic - recall our words regarding arm hairs the other day - but once the edges of the feathers were filled in they looked brilliant. Personally I might've liked a slightly more oppulent look, considering the relatively high class warrior they would be, and the looks of the ranks above and below, but I suppose that might not have been historically feasible. I rather like that you don't just edit in the same Macuahuitl for every warrior, but rather give them separate designs, and put them at varrying angles. Keeps in interesting. And I did note the cheeky death's head smiley on the Jaguar Warrior's weapon. That's probably it for this time. Cheers.
Thanks dude:) yeah great minds think alike, I was thinking the jaguar suit looks a bit pyjama-like. I hope it gets slightly offset by the funky helmet at least:)) it does seem inconceivable that the top ranking warriors didn’t wear helmets, but maaaybe it might lend even more credence to the Aztec way of warfare, that lethal blows to the head weren’t a general practice - maybe!

I know my question is a bit out of place but i made it in this video because it was the most recent. So , could you tell me why the varangian bra was so popular throughout the Byzantine and Varangian army ? What was it purposes and how effective it was ?
mmmm i don't have a clear answer but as far as i can tell, the 'Varangian bra' (we don't know what it was actually called) was picked up by the late Romans / early Byzantines from the steppe peoples and/or the Persians (the Sassanids wore something like it too) during late antique times.
