Randy shares a hair-raising story of friends, one he’s known for about 56 years, another over 30 years, and the third in the party, who he knows of.
Names are not mentioned to protect them from harassment from internet keyboard warriors.
During the course of their elk hunt they had two grizzlies charge into grab the elk they were getting ready to pack out. One had to be killed, to preserve their lives, in extremely close quarters. They have been exonerated by both US Fish and Wildlife and WY Game & Fish as having acted in self-defense, no charges were levied against them, rightly so.
Two of the hunters have told the events to Randy and Cathy, in detail.
They are all fortunate that they were able to get out of the events alive and unharmed, due to their quick thinking and reflexes.
    God bless!

My Great Great Uncle, "Buckskin" Johnny Spaulding, an Indian guide and professional hunter, led a wagon train from Sidney, NT on the Oregon Trail to Deadwood, DT in summer of 1876. My Great Great Grandparents were on it. While camped at the head of Deadwood Gulch, he wrote of a huge boar running around in camp. He promptly shot it and butchered it. My Grandmother said that's when she knew they weren't in Wisconsin anymore.

Thank you For your wisdom and your knowledge and your sharing it with us. Thank you.

    Great presentation!
The game warden going to the kill site and finding 7 grizzlies possibly demonstrates that the governmental officials do not recognize the real threat from these bears.

Amazing stories thanks so much for sharing. I'm a long time student of the fur trade history and the trapping stories are great too. I plan on exploring the Green River at the southern Wyoming/ N Utah border this next summer. I know you have a patreon account, but have you ever considered telling these stories live? Its a way people could support without being a patreon member. You could start the story, people in the chat will likely ask questions and likely leave you lots of tips for answering specific questions. Just an idea. Happy Holidays!

When I was 12, I inadvertently caught a great horned owl, in one of my fox sets.
I called the DNR to report it & the exhaustive & lengthy, inquisition that followed, was quite fearsome for a youngster. “Dad, are they gonna take my traps & my guns ? “ I was so scared.
I can only imagine what it might be like for a pair of grizzlies.

Those grizzly bears don't much care about what's for supper, whether it's man or beast. Ain't no way I'd hunt for anything whatsoever in grizzly country without an experienced hunting guide and my 338 winchester magnum and a 44 magnum pistol on my body at all times.

Wow. Great scary yarn! Luckily we have no dangerous critters in New Zealand. Crazy how the grizzlies are allowed to get to such crazy numbers by beurocracy

We have spent a lot of time in bear country - blacks, grizzlies, and browns. We have had some close encounters caused by the bears, not us. Had a brown 2 feet from the gunwales of our boat. Did not shoot. Was stalked by one for 200 yards. Did not shoot. Should have both times.
Some bears have no fear of man and teach it to their young - need to be removed from the population.

    • @TheRealGunsmith
      @TheRealGunsmith  6 місяців тому

In other videos I've said that 26" is the length needed to wring out the velocity of this cartridge. Using RL 22, RL 26 & IMR 7828 and SSC.

Have you seen the guy bow hunting black bear in a ground blind that had a clean shot at 30 yards but waited and the big black bear walked straight at him AND his Camara guy.. finally turned broad side at maybe 8 to 10 feet before he shot.. unnecessarily put himself and the Camara guy in danger
