    I really like the Giant Beats but the 602s are really nice as well. In general, I think that all of Paiste's lines had a warmer sound up until the 1980s. Then, they got more "silvery". I do think that they are responding to the longing for Bonham-era cymbals with the 602 Modern Essentials and the 2092 Big Beat lines.

      Prob the 2002's because they cut best and are more durable. I really can't see how Bonzo could have played Giant Beat high hats, because they dent very easily and I would think he would go through them quite often. I just noticed you have a Shure 548 on snare. NICE. I got a couple of them last year and they often come with me to sessions when I trust the drummer not to hit them. They actually make a halfway decent kick drum mic too, much to my surprise.

      Hey Dave...yes!! You spotted it. This is the first video I've used it for. I know Bonzo 's drums were mic'd with these for a while and I got curious....turns out the reviews are great, but they've gone through the roof price wise! people are asking stupid money for these!

    • @davewestner
      @davewestner 3 роки тому +1

      @@BONHAMOLOGY I heard about the price increase.....another producer/engineer buddy of mine is an avid vintage dynamic mic collector....he actually found me the 2 that I have for dirt cheap. Just did a session with him last week and he was telling me about some of the insane prices they're asking these days.
      It's basically just an SM57 with a slightly different top end (I did a lot of comparisons to different 57s and also to the Shure 545).....548 is a dash darker.
      In my opinion, not worth more than around $150 for pure mic sake. Of course, vintage/rarity have driven up prices.
      It's crazy to think that Zep did a few tours using NOTHING but these mics for EVERYTHING....drums, vocals, guitars, probably bass as well and organ. Nothing else. It's testament to the whole, "it's not the gear that makes the sound, it's the player" theory. Zep just sounded that good.
      Fantasy session: when the pandemic is over, I'll grab the ones my buddy has, bring my pair, head to you and we'll mic up your kit with 5 548s and do a vintage Bonzo miking session! (it'll never happen, too far of a drive from Boston, but fun to think about)
