Wow, I’ve never seen John Hartford on video when he was this old. I wondered if he would still dance. Yup, but a bit quieter now than those earlier concerts where he was a true one-man band. What an original spirit he was, like someone from a Time Machine from long ago.
@@lastnickeldrifter I see. Such a terrible illness. I think I heard that he had cancer for quite awhile, and had lots of musical guests visit, and play for him and with him. I think Otis Gibbs has some videos about his last years.
The way life is going we will all be seeing and listening to John, at the big gig in the sky, soon! Music and talent will move on to the next portal. LOL
I was on my way to T'ride, stopped and bought some property here in Kanab, UT before this show. I remember him dancing through the crowd one year. Will be remembering John Hartford on the stage for the 50th Telluride Bluegrass Festival, June 2023.
For a couple summers I lived in an old miner's cabin that I fixed up above town on the side of the mountain that you can see at 9:50. 35 minute hike from town. Above what used to be called the bus village. Unfortunately this was 99 and 2000 so I missed JH. A few years later BLM or DNR or whoever tore the cabin down. But those were good times. I could hear the festivals at town park so clear from my cabin just sitting out there looking over town at night. Literally sitting on top of the world.
This is so beautiful, thanks for posting ,love him so much, first time I saw him perform alone.Fredrick Maryland, along with New Grass Revival, so strange growing old,but fun
I saw him a couple times at a festival in Oregon. Such a fun time and it's sad that he' s no longer with us but so nice to find this video of him and his band.
Superb. Question about the first number- I know some of the lyrics are from "more big bull fiddle fun," but to my ear it sounds like a different, minor-sounding fiddle tune underneath it. Anyone know the name of that one? Thanks in advance!
@@willumfisher Glad to help! Forgot to mention the lyrics he sings are from "More Big Bull Fiddle Fun" from The Walls We Bounce Off Of. He sang the words from that song on all sorts of fiddle tunes lives.
Iconic - thank you for sharing. He must have loved Telluride, I know he was there more than once. I used to love listening to his music, remember some earlier shows, pre-plywood 🙂
RIP John. Enjoyed your music for years. If I had been at this concert, I'd have been pissed. Get up, play and sing! I'll sing WITH you, not for you. Cheated the audience BIG TIME!! No use in saving this performance.
My daughter danced with J Hartford at Onekema County Fair some time back in the 1980s. Amazing man.
John Hartford was a Genius
He’s be tickled to death to hear you say that

Not old, sick from cancer, he's only 60 there.😢
He’s so inspiring.

John Hartford is a national treasure. Find more of his stuff, you'll love it.
You certainly have, John's fingerprints on so many stages! And footprints to boot!
There was only one John Hartford - a true American original. He is missed like the old Trolley Car and the Steamboat.
Big hand to John Hartford. Saw him in the summer of 2000 at Grey Fox and will never forget it. Travelled 6000 miles to get there.
I enjoyed seeing him at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in the early 70's. They really had quite the lineup
Sure miss John!! We need him today desperately!

I loved how his intro to the band mimicked the cadence of “this is a squirrel hunter” then they played Squirrel Hunter

Härlig musik med en speciell vink till John Hartford som jag upptäckte i filmen oh brothers where are though
Got to know Bob Carlin, so glad to see JH call him out. Bob is such a talent and worked a great deal with JH.

Lots of tickling goin’ on….some one could suffer from death.
Terrible that he died just 3 years after this
I love this. What's the first song they play?
