    R.I.P. John!
When I said I loved your music, and you simply said "Thank you. You're easily entertained."...
You echoed what my mother told me, but humble as you were, you were still the tops!

John did a small, solo concert in St. Louis at Wash U. around 1975, and agreed to sign autographs afterwards. I ran out to my car, grabbed my banjo, ran back and asked him to sign it. He said: "I'll be defacing a good instrument." He was so humble.
I never became a decent banjo player, and my life has had many ups and downs, but that banjo, with his autograph, has always been with me. It is one of my prized possessions, and I cried when he passed away.

Carlson refers to the show tomorrow night, this line from a Twin Cities music page: "John Hartford was at the St. Paul Civic Center on November 28, 1971" likely puts these wonderful moments at midday November 27, 1971

Can't believe I have never seen this arrangement of Steam Powered Aeroplane by John before.
What an amazing treasure. Thank you poster!
Rest in Peace John. You are missed.

I had the great pleasure of seeing him three times, once around this period at Radford College (I think with Norman Blake), and then later when he was touring and dancing and playing fiddle. I wish I had seen him even more.

This is amazing to see and hear!!! I sure hope the Hartford lawyers don't take it down. This is such a treasure. Thank you.

Does that happen a lot with his lawyers? Is that why the documentary that's been in post production for 6 years still hasn't been released?

@@jordanalexander5275 I think the doc ran out of $. The Hartford family are really reasonable folks, so they don't run around pulling clips down off UA-cam etc.

Must have been the early 1970's. I saw him (and the Dillard's) in the late 70's and he didn't look like this. ). I can't even remember that his hair was this dark, but maybe. Very cool guy. Love his steady calm demeanor. Genuine.

@@fractuss Interesting. It was my second concert ever (first was the Kinks). Where, may I ask, did you see him...and the Dillards? Also, not sure I even knew of the Andy Griffith Show/Dillards connection until afterward.

It’s the John Hartford I knew. My older brother picked up the LP in late 71 or early 72 at this Head shop in Carbondale Illinois. Those were the days.
