One key point you made near the end...you'll have had 7 months to get invested in your character. Character, not characters. Since you can play all jobs on a single character you become even more invested in them.

    • @valgardgaming
      @valgardgaming  3 роки тому +29

The one thing that amazes me about your exact point is that they do manage to pull of getting invested despite being so fluid in your job choice. I think part of the fun of a single class in an MMO and even tabletop games like D&D is having that defintive strengths and weaknesses which are in a way unavoidable then coming against challenges with that skill set, so your investment is directly tied to the class. 'I'm a warrior' or 'I'm a mage' kinda deal.
The best way I can think of that FF14 does this is you think of yourself as 'The Warrior of Light' and not as your job so all that investment still goes solidly into your character.

    The FF14 community is incredible.
Being a WOW refugee myself not even 5 minutes into the game of creating my character I had people running up to me giving me money, a set of low-level gear which I assume is crafted and even a little minion pet.
It was so overwhelming and it brought such a resurgence of positive energy within my body that I haven't felt in literally 15 years when WOW used to be just like this in the very beginning. I WAS HAVING FUN!!!
I'm absolutely astounded that there is still MMOs that have a community like this that exist.

I don't notice much of a difference in the communities if I'm being honest. People don't talk in random queue dungeons in WoW and don't in FF14, and I've been steady playing FF14 for months (Leviathan). There is less berating of bad players because most people just /leave as any sort of chat that could be interpreted as bashing is bannable. When I first started I would ask for a rundown of the boss mechanics in FF14 and people were helpful, but WoW has a dungeon journal that tells you the boss mechanics plus everyone runs DBM so it's not really necessary.
I've never once been invited to a group to world quest (or Fate spamming), and that at least happened every once in a while in WoW but not enough to be considered a "social" game.
The only thing that's instantly noticeable is the lack of carry spamming and political trolling in general/trade chat in FF14, which is nice.
PvP griefing also doesn't exist in FF14 because world PvP doesn't exist.
I play FF14 because it's honestly just a better game minus PvP which I never really cared for in WoW.

The best way most FFXIV players describe how they feel when they log in isn't "What do I need to do today?", but instead it's "What *_should_* I do today?", you never feel like you need to do one particular thing, it's just what you want to do on that particular day.

Something that benefits the new player experience a lot: All content is available essentially forever and is always being run. While a number of other large online games tend to vault content or make similar moves, other than the scrapping of 1.x itself, and obviously seasonal and limited events coming in and out, all the content is around forever, and you'll always be able to run it due to the roulette system. And since the story is the centerpiece, you lose nothing by being a late arrival. This makes it immensely newbie-friendly.

    • @valgardgaming
      @valgardgaming  2 роки тому +1

I think you expand on an absolutely excellent point which I wish I brought up more that it really is super newbie friendly, both if you're an mmo veteran coming into the world as the ARR is a bit slower to give you time to get centred with all the characters and world more generally. Or if you're simply new to the MMO genre more broadly by not over-whelming you with abilities right off the bat ontop of the tutorial arena thingo. Let alone how its just naturally good at teaching you mechanics like the markers for trials.
As for content more generally, it really is good that everything is available and that it incentivises you to go try it out as well. Both with the roulettes and other systems like the Wonder Journals you pick up in Idyllshire. Really gives you the sense that you can play at your own pace, so ultimately you never do get the feeling of FOMO (except for those seasonal events, but people can understand those so it's not exactly the worst thing ever)

Conversely, if you pre-form with friends, you can go in as crazy combinations together because pre-forms ignore the restrictions. I've been party of insanely silly "all tank" 8 man raids. Was it efficient? Heck no. Was it fun? Heck yes! Blue mage in particular *has* to do pre formed parties because they are forbidden from using Duty Finder, so the Party Finder is often filled with all blue spell farming parties.

FFXIV also has one of the best Mahjong games you'll find anywhere, on top of all those other minigames he mentioned.
There's even achievements for being really good at it the "Mahjong Master" title is one of the biggest flexes around because of how intensive it actually is and depends solely on personal effort and skill.
Actually, a lot of the biggest flexes don't even come from combat achievements, things like the Triple Triad mount requiring all the cards or pretty much any of the achievements from the Gold Saucer ("High Roller" especially), the Ocean Fishing achievement minions + mount.
Hell, even the Gatherer/Crafter relic gear is more difficult and time consuming than the combat relics.
And one of the rarest mounts in the game comes from doing a bunch of crafting and gathering for the Firmament in Ishgard.

I couldn't believe how good the game has gotten. When I joined an FC, I actually met them in-game as opposed to meeting them only for dungeon runs or raids in Legion. We had costume contest, hide and seek, we did raids and PotD and HoH and Eureka. I actually had a lot of fun!
Then I burned out. I played the game 12 hours a day for 9 months. 2 months after Shadowbringers, I quit. Then I came back in August 2021 (you'd think I'd come back during the height of Covid, but I worked in a hospital so I was still working while non-essential workers couldn't) and I'm taking it slower now. Winning means that the battle is over and FFXIV reigns king. Not only is that an unrealistic view of the situation, it's that mentality that caused 1.0's massive failure.

People disliked the covenant system and the kite meta in M+ was unpopular, the changes in pvp gearing as well as Castle Nathria as a raid were received positively though. I feel like two things which bit WoW hard could have been actually listening to some hardcore gamer complaints, like getting rid of progression systems like artifact power and removing titanforging, which made hardcore players who feel compulsed to grind like crazy happy, but left the more casual base starved of progression, especially since the lack of titanforging makes progression harder for them.
Like I mentioned in another video here, I think now both games are in the position where they need to deliver. Final Fantasy, much like Animal Crossing New Horizons in 2020 achived a perfect storm completely out of their control.
In Animal Crossing’s case, the Covid lockdowns began in earnest late March/early April of 2020. ACNH releaced March 30, 2020. That timing meant that at the beginning of lockdown, people that had a Nintendo Switch had a brand new, chill life simulator game they can put 100s of hours into just in time to be locked in their houses with nothing to do. This drove up sales for ACNH and made it the second best selling Switch Game period, beating out Smash Ultimate.
Final Fantasy 14 experienced something similar. Content creators, and by extention players of World of Warcraft waking up to how bad Blizzard’s design choices really were in Shadowlands drove these people to look for alternatives. Not only was FF14 constantly whispered into these people’s ears with methods such as the Extended Free Trial meme, but FF14 had announced Endwalker in Febuary of 2021, meaning that not only did these refugees have hundreds of thousands of hours of “brand new” content to chew through, but they also have a brand new expantion they can experience with everyone else if they were quick enough with the MSQ. Consitering the Wow Exodus really started in earnest in June and July, before the sexual harrassment debacle went public in August, one can’t really say it was exclusively because of the lawsuit that this exodus began at all. To use an analogy, World of Warcraft already had the stab wound, the doctors just accidentally punctured an artery while trying to fix the original wound, making the bleeding so much worse, and Final Fantasy 14 was the game that benifited the most from World of Warcraft’s hemoraging.
It really is a shame though. It never had to be this way, as Wow could of learned and both Ff14 and Wow could of improved off of eachother, as Yoshi P did cite Wow (in Cataclysm and Mists) as one of the main insparations as to how to craft ARR. Yoshi P even said in a recent interview that he was excited that New World came out and it was popular, so they can see what Amazon did and somehow work in what worked in New World into 14. This is how things should be. Healthy competition, because in the end everyone wins.

Your right on the money that something in the stars aligned for FFXIV's massive player increase. Although I think I'd add when it comes to Blizzard and WoW, it wasn't just that the game decisions were bad, it's that content was coming in waaaaay to late. It's easy to forget about bad systems when the next patch introduces new ones to figure out and fixed the last ones, but there wasn't anything in Shadowlands so everyone was bored and pissed at those poor decisions. Especially content creators who'd milked WoW for all it'd been worth at this point as it was really them that (intentionally or not) lead the charge over to FFXIV. Your also very correct on the point that this all started before the law suit, I think another anology is that the dam had started breaking but then torrential rains hit which really just made to burst wide open.
Competition is incredible, and it's a shame to see WoW be in this state due to nothing short of pure arrogance. Ironically, if they watched the Yoshi-P A Realm Reborn presentation that was literally rule 1 for a game going bad.
Thank you for watching and your well thought out comment

@@valgardgaming Its obvious that beside the controversies, Blizz was hit heavier than expected by covid and it only became really noticable post launch. Which makes sense, as at the time the pandemic started, most of the programming work for Shadowlands was long done and the game was at the stage of beta testing and finetuning, with the pandemic probably becoming a problem once they started work for 9.1, which was delayed just too much.
Though I would say its much too early to declare FF14 the winner really. It has become a serious competition, but we will have to see whether or not the FF14 dev team will keep that success. They will certainly need to up their game, when it comes to keeping the WoW players. The more casual players will probably be kept happy easy enough, though I'm not sure if FF14s solo content is enough, but when it comes to the raiding and pvp crowd, FF14 will need to invest its increased popularity and therefore profits into expanding development, as at this point I don't think they will be able to keep WoW players busy long term. And I feel like when it comes to job design, they will need to get people who are more proficent and knowledgable with Tank and Healer roles, as these are a strong weak point in terms of class design compared to DPS roles. I also think WoW has still the opportunity to make a comeback, if Blizz gets its mess sorted in time and they manage to deliver with 10.0. @@shizachan8421 I can't take away that covid certainly had a huge impact, although that was mainly on the content drought after the fact. The end-game systems that most people decryed were already in the game at launch, it just took awhile for people to hit that wall.
You're certainly right that FFXIV hasn't won yet, nor will WoW just die. I think the main point beyond all the hyperbole on my end is that WoW is no longer the undisputed king. Although with some of the changes coming in Endwalker to pvp and the hints that they may be looking to do something similar to mythics/mythic+ during the Endwalker media tour. I wouldn't be surprised if there is enough coming to actually retain a lot of those WoW players who do want the end-game after all the story content as you're on the money that is a potential issue considering you can't take away WoW's end-game pvp and pve dominance.

@@valgardgaming Like I mentioned, dunno if here or somewhere else, I think one thing that added to the content drought was the fact that Blizz removed titanforging and artifact power and also made World Quests ultimately take longer and less rewarding. I think it takes alot of progression away from people who play more casually and I've seen Shadowlands being described as a raid or die expansion after release. Though I will defend the borrowed power systems. They are very hit or miss and take alot of fixing, but I think they are a necessity when we want gameplay changes and new flashy abilities each expansion. FF14 itself seems to have reached the point where adding new abilities in each expansion seems to become less and less sustainable. There is a horrible button overbload and lets be honest, outside of stuff like the Summoner rewamp, which was a hugh rewamp, were you much excited for most of the new skills Jobs got? I was not, classes have gotten to the point where they feel complete. Its a mark of honor that FF14 has reached this point, but I also feel like at some point the devs will need to consider alternative forms of progression as well.
To be honest, I hope that both WoW makes a return and that FF14 will expand the game to keep WoW players busy. Its ultimately more healthy for the market, if both games remain in a position to compete against each other and having to take each other seriously. I have quite some issues with FF14, the biggest one is that after Stormblood and Shadowbringers, Endwalker feels quite samey from the first look and there isn't much outside of the story and Reaper that I feel excited about, also issues with tank and healer design. I feel like both games could benefit from just lookg at each other and take more from each other. WoW could learn alot from the writing and delivery of FF14s story, as well as some of the side content. Especially stuff like relic weapons and so on. FF14 on the other hand could take a lesson from WoWs endgame and some of its open world content, also the class design for tank and healer roles. Especially healers are just so much more interesting and fun in WoW. FF14 seems to copy a bit of discipline priest with sage and I think they could take a shit ton of inspiration of how WoW does healers.

I'm a RuneScape (main version, not OS) player who's not interested in either FFXIV or WoW; but I think that the shockwave of these changes shall be very impactful to the MMO scenery and can only bring good even to us Scapers. I think it's too early to tell whether WoW has completely lost its position, though, as there are still too many dedicated WoW fans; it's still possible that there'll be a duality with the MMO world polarised between those two dipoles, competing to be the sole winner; or maybe RuneScape will rise to the top again -- you never know ;)

I think the weird thing about trying to determine WoW's placement in the MMO genre these days is it's active playerbase is split between both retail and classic. So they're basically 2v1ing every other game, and it's still looking shaky which is kind of indicative of them not being at the top at least.
And no doubt Runescape has benefited an absolute ton, really, with all the positive press coming around the hardcore stuff in OS I reckon people would have come both into that version and the main one (especially since it's free and FFXIV is a sub model which can get pretty expensive once you clear the free trail).

What truly killed WoW was Wow. Its a case example of how entropy kills a game, like Everquest before it. They where more concerned with keeping the wheel spinning despite it falling apart, by adding more and more and more to it. Instead of repairing it or rebuilding a new wheel which Blizzard was more then capable of.
Eventually the wheel rotted and stopped spinning and Blizzard just kept adding more to it anyways.
If it isn't broke don't fix it, if broke fix it, if fixed and it still doesn't work... Time to get a new on.

Shadowlands was quite a massive success when it comes to expansion releases, so I don't feel like WoW entered the expansion in that much of a broken state. Besides controversies, the problem was that after the release of Shadowlands it really showed that covid hit Blizz harder than expected and content was delayed hard and ended up a little bit too much scratched together, also just the general setting of Kothia not being that exciting. If 9.2 hits soon enough, it could be a sign of them being closer at track again and afterwards, we will need to see if they manage to get a comeback with the next expansion. They did it once before, after WoD.

Okay, that sentence gave off some really creepy incel school shooter vibes, so I probably block you after that reply. And I mean, FF14 is actually incredibly lazy if you think about it. It's fun, but the devs are undeniably unmotivated to expand the game and its content and most of them don't seem to know how the game works, so it basically just lives off Schadenfreude vom WoW haters who, if I look at forums like MMO-champions, seem to correlate with Incels as you prove it and cult-like reverence to Yoshi-P. Yeah, I get it, the guy is charismatic, but he reached the point where he really lead FF14 into stagnation. If you aren't exactly somebody who tries to use FF14 as a second life, the whole gardening feature in Endwalker seems kinda boring and looking at it as somebody who started to play at the end of Heavensward, its basically the same old same old each expansion without anything new to look forward to outside of new classes. And honestly, as much as Island expeditions and Torghast ended up being failures and the borrowed power systems never again reached the artifacts, I take a failed attempt at something new over the same old same old, once I'm done with the story. The story will probably be great again, but outside of that there isn't really anything new to look forwards towards in Endwalker.
And know that Shadowlands started strong because we have the numbers and it was a record breaking release. It had the most day 1 purchases of any PC game so far and during Castle Nathria, Raid Participation was higher than during BfA. I dropped after a hugh content delay, which probably came due to Blizzard not being as covid ready as we thought them to be.

A word if caution about SE. They treat FF14 right but they are still a corporation and act that way. FFBE for example is massively predatory: content is cut for the global version if it helps the player too much, rewards are reduced or handed out in log in rather than lump sums, the developers lie or don't communicate at all. Part of this is the company that runs it for SE, Gumi, but a large part of it comes from SE itself and even if it wasn't they could put a stop to it. And it has little to do with being a gacha: both FFRK and Dissidia aren't run that predatory.

@@valgardgaming here's an example. We had our 5 year global anniversary celebration in July. Pretty impressive for a mobile game. There was a big campaign with lots of great stuff exclusively for new players. But to celebrate the vets who kept at it daily? Nothing. People waited to see if they'd announce something. They didn't. The non-casual player base exploded in a typical internet riot. The Devs finally released an apology letter and gave vets 150 free summons.... which had no guarantees so if you were unlucky you got nothing for being a vet. A clear sign that in an anniversary celebration they'd had no plans to thank the people who'd been there from the start. Even aside the personal as a business decision I find it baffling.

    I used to play WoW back in the day but quit around WotLK, however I got the urge to go back to I did in BFA and I was shocked at the state of the game;
I had a fraction of abilities that I used to have.
    - Talents didn't feel as impactful.
    - cities were dead.
    - had no need to talk to people - the only time I had a decent convo with someone was randomly when we were fishing in the same spot.

Switching to a new MMO is a big investment, and it's scary to bet your livelihood on an MMO that may simply go down the same path as WoW (or never even get that far). FF14, on the other hand, has consistently shown its continuous improvements, quality, and respecting (and acting on) player feedback over the course of YEARS. That makes it a safe bet to try--because you can feel safe knowing that the MMO you're getting invested into isn't a potential dud.

From what i've seen the best way to think about it is that WoW's raiding/dungeons is better than FFXIV only in the high end scene. If you want to do high stress, time-trail mythics or very challenging raids then WoW is your go. The problem is that the rest of WoW isn't great.
Whereas FFXIV, the raids and trials are really solid. Titania is a marvellous fight, but you've got some where you're thrown up in the air and halo jump to avoid flak from a giant tiger dude. The spectical and solid mechanics of FFXIV are marvellous and then it has the rest of the game to actually back it up so you're not just focused on that raiding.

You hit on some good points, but missed out on a lot. Like the cadence by which FFXIV brings out new content, they don't invalidate content and everything is part of the game, the game was built around scaling and there is little reason to role alts. Then there is the story, which is cohesive and compelling. Generally sky beams doesn't fix the problem and there is a lot of underlying lore mechanics in place which you live through. Your character at times has choice, and though it's a faux choice it really makes you feel like you are part of the group.

I don't see this happening for long, and I hope it doesn't come to pass. But there is one thing that can make the fans leave. It doesn't matter from where the company is from, Japan or America.
All it would take for the fans to leave is for Square-Enix to be engulfed in a serious controversy based on their decisions, most likely involving toxic workplace environment, one that is engulfing Blizzard right now and has once torn Konami (Japanese company right here), or just its reputation, into pieces. That is the one thing that the fandom is absolutely aghast with. Let's hope Square-Enix never falls into that hole, with all those cautionary tales scattered around them. (They have once failed big time with the Avengers, but even they bounced back on that since there wasn't such big controversy)
But I believe that with Yoshi-P at helm and the good principles he held steadfast affecting the company, it wouldn't happen.

I'll start by saying you are right, Final Fantasy 14 naturally isn't perfect and there should be plenty of discussion dedicated purely to those topics. As of this video 2 months ago, and even a bit now, I think it's a case of old WoW players who either have tried their hand at content creation or those content creators who moved into the FFXIV space are kind of de-toxing themselves of WoW. You don't spend 10+ years of your life playing a game without naturally framing new experiences into that, as the honeymoon period starts to end and normalcy returns I think you'll see a couple of those issues addressed more earnestly.
I know I'm starting to develop a couple of ideas myself, although if you have any suggestions for FFXIV issues you'd want to see covered please let me know. Not until this last year did they start taking hits. And FF has grown like 30% this last year. So I do agree its winning, but ESO was by no means a "niche" game. Because it not only changes history (changing the text and meaning of many of WoW's old historical quests), it proves beyond shadow of a doubt that WoW is run by rampant woke cultists. The language they use to justify this censorship is the same language you hear from any other industry these leaches destroyed. And when they do this universally hated decision in the times when WoW is in its lowest, then it's obvious they don't care about the players, they only care about the ideology. Instead of trying to save the IP and save the game, they abused this recent lawsuit to eliminate all resistance to their agenda. Since they did this now despite they have ton of real problems to solve, it is obvious that they will comply with the woke mafia demands even if WoW supposedly recovers in the future.
And this sentiment will not only affect jokes, it will most importantly affect the story. If you hated the WoW's story now, prepare for the future, because it's gonna get wild. There is no woke story that is good.
And for those who don't follow the story at all, like Preach and his viewers... having woke cultists in charge of the game development isn't good for you either. Because woke philosphy claims that gaming is a toxic masculine culture that promotes sexism, and thus it needs to be fundamentally overhauled. That in turn means that they should stop listening to the feedback, because nearly all of the negative feedback comes from "men". So whatever stupid grindy systems they introduce are here to stay. If you complain, you are a toxic troll.
Woke philosophy also says that it doesn't matter if something is popular, and that it being popular doesn't mean it's good. Which ultimately results in companies pushing failing products, and when those products fail, they push them even harder. It's because the important thing isn't to make the product sell, it's to "put the product out there". By being "out there", it will over time gain reputation. Even if the reputation is hate-clicks, this reputation is then used as fame (Q-score). Companies later use this Q-score to sell characters or IPs to you. It's a cancerous practice, and I can no longer support it.

While I'm going to avoid talking politics as much as I can because that always becomes a mess. I think the very core of your point is really solid, that the WoW team care only about making decisions for themselves without any consideration for the game or for the audience at large. The results of which for the games health should by now be apparent to them but they continue to be blind to it so stopping support is the only true way to hopefully effect change. @@valgardgaming Trying to stay away from politics was a viable choice few years ago. But it's increasingly not possible. The paradox of staying out of politics is that woke cultists claim everything is political, so you staying out of it is a political stance to them. And every company, organization or community that isn't explicitly against their politics WILL eventually implement their politics.
Escaping to Final Fantasy is an easy choice to make because Japan is still resistant to woke culture. But even that is changing. So the day may come when the devs of Final Fantasy will need to take a stance. If they choose not to take a stance, they will be consumed. If they choose to take a stance, they will be vilified. Vanilla Alpha - Hey what should the world be called? AZEROTH! ...but that's the name of a kingdo-- AZEROTH! No, the main kingdom in the southern part o-- AZEROTH!!! ...ok fine.
MoP - Hey, panda man was cool in WC3, let's do him for next expansion! Yeah, whole continent! Oh quick, throw in old god something so it relates to literally anything else!
WoD - Hey guys, i found an old WC2 manual, look at all these orc factions! Oh cool, let's do that for the next one! Buy how, they're all dead...? Everyone's favorite stupid illogical narrative device - time travel! ...mixed with alternate universe travel!
Legion - BRRRTTTTT PEW PEW BZZZZRRRRRR man, demons are kinda cool, let's bring back them! Ok but this is the last time, I'm tired of playing demons, so let's just rush through the entire second half of the story that's been building since WC1 and get it out of the way.
BfA - So have you guys seen Celestials in those marvel comics? Let's do that but with titans and Azeroth, we can make a dwarf say "AUUCH, CHAMPION" 500000 times, too, and sorta talk to the planet and also I like boats and water stuff.
SL - I saw a cool special effect where the sky shattered like glass! WHOA COOL! Yeah, let's make them do that. Also I just watched Avengers again so let's do an infinity gauntlet with the stones! Ok but mom said copyright infringement is bad so we gotta do it different! Best thing I can say about ShBr was I liked the ambiance and aesthetic, that’s it. Constantly hearing “play what you want” only to hear after months that I can’t play that class because there’s already a Shield Healer. “Oh you wanted to raid with us? Our FC doesn’t raid. Sorry!” “I have a static you can join- Oh wait, sorry we’re full now!” “There’s too many damn sprouts, go back to your dying game if you don’t know mechanics!” I’m tired of it all. I gave this game a chance because my friends play it and I enjoyed it at first, but the community drew me away. I don’t know if people just got tired of the massive amount of sprouts or if their friendly façades finally broke but I can’t stand it anymore. You ticked off a list of new stuff, but FF allows players to go back to any point of the lore and still play it. It definitely is not the same as the original content, but it has enough challenge and FUN to engage players. WoW killed itself back in 2005, when it ignored its horribly toxic community. Forums didn't matter, and streams were still a distant dream. FF is definitely the right game / right time currently, but make no mistake: WoW has fallen on its sword, finally unable to overcome it's toxic community, it's toxic developer(s), and it's toxic practice of destroying its classic lore for time sinks. And do not think the culture wars being fought do not matter either. WoW has spent its time at the heart of the western culture war around victimhood. FF is a Japanese game, refitted a bit for western audiences. Things which are kawaii (cute), strong characters who do not demand support, and the strengths of femininity being treated as the separate by equal ideals most of us "peasants" still enjoy. It does not judge you, it celebrates you! Just don't be an ass, or those cute little "objectified cat girls" will show you just how they make "cat gut." This was a great summary though, very fair without hating on WoW. A++

While i'm going to not talk about the culture war section of the comment as I do want to remain as apolitical as I can manage, I think you certainly have a point in that toxicity in both the community and dev team has lead to this point. The dev team seems to do whatever they want without much regard to the playerbase, and the game seems to be designed to cater to the most on-average toxic element of the player base (competitive end-game with either pve in mythics or pvp with arenas) which they do really well but it's come at the cost of most other elements of the game. FFXIV however is a far better experience holeistically so its no surprise that the exodus happened in the end

All these new youtube videos about FFXIV winning, being better than WoW and everything of the sort make me cringe. I've been a WoW player since vanilla and a FFXIV player for almost a year now, and unfortunately, with the mass migration of WoW players to FFXIV, some of the WoW mentalities are also joining FFXIV.
The constant need to show how the game you are playing is better than the competition, the dunking on smaller MMOs, the lack of understanding and communication in-game.... these are just a few of the average WoW player traits. Since the start of autumn, my UA-cam feed as been inundated with videos of WoW bros joining the FFXIV and dunking on WoW, and now I'm starting to see bits and pieces of the WoW player traits in FFXIV. I just hope that the people who join this cool game understand it's not like WoW and don't completely fuck up the FFXIV community with the WoW mindset.

    • @valgardgaming
      @valgardgaming  3 роки тому

The people who can't break that WoW mindset don't make it through the MSQ, one thing that can be said for the slower start in the ARR is that it provides a bit of a wall for people who aren't going to jell with the way FFXIV operates. As for your concerns about the community potentially changing they're valid, WoW has taught people terrible habits for a long time, but FFXIV is designed in a way to as I mentioned weed out the worst and then mold the people who are left into something far more acceptable.
As for dunking on WoW specifically, it's just cathartic, after years and years of the same stuff it's good to finally be playing a game the devs care about. My bet is there'll be less and less WoW videos as time goes on as most content creators get into the FFXIV swing of things and can actually make informed videos purely about it. Not to say WoW content will completely go away, there'll always be new news which is going to make for quality content, but those will come in waves when there is that new information.
