Nando is in still exactly the same in 2023. Still extremely competitive, making tactical calls from his car and watching his team mate on screens around the circuit. But this compulsion also extended to hounding the Red Bull drivers and Hamilton for their lap times.
I wouldnt say he is more competitive since he isn't challenging red bull or maybe he's more understanding that they are too powerful or he can't outperform the car like 2012
I hated him for so long because he drove Schumacher to retirement, but I respect him for being the only driver, alongside with Max, who doesn't give a damn about being in front of Lewis, real racers are endangered species.

You're thinking of 2010 where red bull were significantly quicker at this circuit. Also Alonso had Piquet jr as a teammate who obviously wasn't good enough so distorted car performance as well.
Well, since this was 2009, and refueling was a thing, drivers had to qualify themselves with the same fuel load as at the race start. Fernando probably went with lighter fuel load to snatch pole in Hungary since its a hard track to overtake on, that's probably the main reason

@@elplan3605 Overall it was not the best season that's true, especially after 2 great seasons (2007 and 2008) where the championship was super close and ofc. 2010 was a hella good season aswell but compared to the last ~10 years of F1 I think we would be happy if we get a season like that next year.
All the electric equipment, the battery, and having to carry all the fuel has made the cars heavy. The nimbleness of the later V10 and earlier V8 cars is unmatched.
