Especially since its roughly 400 HP , which is about what a 2002 ZO6 was. Of course nowadays u got electric that blows them all away and even as far as petrol cars are concerned, the most recent Vettes are like 650 HP and about 650 Torque, which shows the engineering difference today also.

I had runflats on my 1998 Corvette convertible I bought used, it had about 30k on it and wow - the runflats were awful. If it rained at all the car was nearly undriveable, it would slip and slide all over the place unless you drove it like an old lady. When it was dry the handling was good, but not really up to the expectations I had for it. The tread on the tires looked fine but I went ahead and replaced them with some Goodyear F1 Asymmetric tires, which were the best wet tire I could find anywhere, and WOW - what an incredible difference. Suddenly that Corvette went from corning well to being absolutely amazing. In the rain you could nearly drive the car like you could when it was dry - it was a massive unbelievable upgrade. If you get a car with some runflats and it doesn't seem to handle right, in particular when the roads are wet, throw those things away and get some good performance tires, you will 100% notice the difference - just pair it with a AAA card and you're set.

My friend worked for a Corvette magazine and he and I got a chance to tour the facility and drive one of the cars. It is fast, though we didn't think so when we first drove it. We were following Reeves, who was driving my friend's car, to a local lunch place. He asked us about the car, and we were trying to be polite about our impressions, when he asked "did you turn off the Valet mode?" Valet mode significantly reduces the engine horsepower and is operated by a key in the center console. After turning it off for the trip back, we were gleefully zipping along when I realized we were going over 100 mph on i95.

Transverse leaf springs are in a totally different league to regular designs, for one they are multi-functional, by flexing in the mid section they reduce the body roll without the need for a huge swaybar, and being they are GRP they weigh stuff all, it was a very well thought out design for back in those days, and when the C4 first launched it was one of the very best handling cars in the world, and that was on factory stock leaf springs.

***** The chassis, suspension, and integrated algorithmic active handling technology is levels beyond any Mustang. ANYONE can build a DOHC engine....as everyone does. The DOHC LT5 was suppose be the next generation engine with the C5... but stuck with OHV, and it has paid off. The LT5 found its way into Cadillac as the Northstar. You really think that cams on top of the head make it 'high tech'??? The new 6.2 LT1 is more efficient than Ford's 5.0.,,.in terms of mpg and carbon emissions. I would really love to know what is not 'high tech' about that.

Did you catch those seats? They look like they were 20 years old.. full of cracks!

+flunk77 Well that makes me feel quite a bit better about how my corvette's seats (while in near flawless condition) looked like that.

+Tom Jones oh for fuck's sake it's the grain of the leather... acceleration and braking like that back in '93 and people are worried about the coked out 90's interior color. You didn't HAVE to get purple they were just offering something outrageous and were far from the only ones to do it back then.

Tom Jones and the sideskirts with no paint where the dirt and stones took it off when flug against them from the wheels

The C4 is the vette that I grew up with. I rather have these vettes than the newer ones.

Extra 42 g for 400 hp and a purple interior lol! Not even in 93 was that reasonable!!! Also, I know the vettes used to have a transverse leaf spring in the at one time but I don't think in 1993 it had leaf springs. I could be wrong.

Should have added bright yellow contrast stitching and piping! Yikes! That would be glaring.

This article reminded me of a Seinfeld’s episode where jerry bought this expensive cool leather jacket but had a strange liner that he tried to hide.

For whatever it's worth; I had to look at a 7o6 last week and it had a sticker price of almost 90k.

Man cars of the 80s and 90s are just so unique and rad compared to todays cars. Todays cars are just plain and boring

Some 20+ years later and the run flat tire is still a high end tire option, or something one must pursue after market.
