Are there some edge cases where this isn't true, and the tire ruptures instead of steadily deflating? Yes, there always will be. However, these cases are rare. Usually, a vehicle will go out of control due to the suspect attempting to avoid the strip, however. Not the spikes.

When a cop gives you directions in traffic you follow it. They motioned him to move behind their squad car because it was unsafe to try and turn around at that point, the suspect could be arriving at any moment, potentially causing a collision if they try to leave. It was far safer for everyone to just get over to the side and wait. You’re the one lacking situational awareness tbh lol.

Go become a cop and see how you handle the situation AS IT IS HAPPENING. Split seconds to decide what to do. What is safer. For them to hit the spikes and the tires go flat, because that's what spikes do, it is not like the movies where when a car hit the spikes it flips over or blows up. The spikes are actually designed now to puncture the tire. The aire realeses closer so the tire just doesn't blow out. Also what did you want the officers to do?! Have people turn around in the middle of the street and possible get hit by the car?! I think its dumb people like the lady in the back ground who keeps asking what is happening when it's pretty obvious.. how old and you never seen stop sticks?! Give me a break. Also people like you who think you are a professional at what ever topic your talking about, are part of what I'd wrong with the world. Just saying. Usually people running from cops don't want to crash so moving everyone off to the side of the road, opening up the road, and putting spikes down is the option they went with.

When a cop gives you directions in traffic you follow it. They motioned him to move behind their squad car because it was unsafe to try and turn around at that point, the suspect could be arriving at any moment, potentially causing a collision if they try to leave. It was far safer for everyone to just get over to the side and wait. You’re the one lacking situational awareness tbh lol.

@@trip_t2122 They were not in a position where leaving the car would have been much better. If there was really a guy coming at high speeds down that road, getting out could be just as dangerous. It’s highly unlikely they would have been hit in that position anyways, spike traps don’t fling your car around like a video game or movie, it just forcibly slows their car down. Them staying in the car was the best decision.
Lucky the perp went a different way. You don't want to be caught like that again! If you get hit, odds are YOU are gonna be paying for it!
perp should get a ticket for going the wrong way from the spike strip.
All else constant, if the perp hits you then the perp is liable.

On the matter of payment, not only is it a different issue, but there are also different approaches. If it's say, a kid, then the parents could be held financially liable. If it's an adult, then garnishments can take place (e.g. seizure of assets or deduction from wages).
