I SAW THIS JUMP +7 LIKES
After being the 312, AWESOME!
I hope all is well and getting better!
❤THANK YOU for Sharing‼😁👍
Set your tire pressures based on the sticker in the drivers door jamb! 34psi isn't a good recommendation for every car
I wrote the worst comments...
Actually the sticker in the door jam only applies to the OE tire size, brand, and make of tire that originally came on your vehicle. As soon as you buy a different tire, even if it is the same size but in a different brand, that PSI information is not relevant. Also if your OE rim is a 16" rim with a 225-60 tire and you put 20" rims with a 245-45 tire on, do you think that the info is still going to be correct? @@SonyFoLife

Ahh the good ol days
“I’ve stabbed more woofers than boxes you’ve built!” 😂. Real talk from a car audio OG right there!
Port flares are supposed to reduce port noise. I say that if you’re port “needs flares” to reduce port noise, your port is designed wrong.
Doug, like you, I'm a car audio OG bringing home SQ trophies back in the early 90s. I'm a lawyer, but a car stereo-aholic at heart. I've been watching you from the beginning and I'm a big fan. Sorry you're having to deal with the nubes, but fun to watch you take them apart!
" I've stabbed more woofers than boxes you've built" - Doug 🤣🤣
Been building boxes since the early 80's and I can agree your ports are fine. Best ports are available in the PVC plumbing section, not those stupid flared ports made of ABS plastic. I make all my ports out of PVC and paint to match.
totally agree..pvc ports are better.
what makes PVC ports "better" than the flared ABS ones? Do they make the box "sound better." The flare is the same principal as a kerf on a port. Reduces chuffing....
@kennetheisenhauer252it’s not hard to do with a torch either…well for me at least.
@@jimjones3287I think it’s more the pvc than the pre flared. Like the straight pvc is just fine. Which, sure.
Do I personally wanna find out if my setup has the ol Chuffington Flu after the fact? Nahhh. I’ll make (another) lil tapered jig and give ‘er a nice little pucker. Pre lip filler pucker tho. Todays pucker look like two caterpillars wrestling…
Fuck yeah just ordered my Cockford Ballsgate stickers!!!!
Next, they're going to tell you that you need a one-way check valve for the ports.
Some of that McIntosh stuff came from one awesome dude! LOL Can't wait to see that install. Doing a sick one myself in my 1997 Cobra, should be Doug approved,,;)
As an og installer and fabricator and same age as Doug, I love this shit😂
Constant belly laugh
Regarding your next McIntosh system setup, you should send the amps out to get the caps replaced. Common that they need replaced due to age. Just a recommendation. Looking forward to seeing the new completed project vehicle in 2030.😀
for 30 years I was building boxes with 3" or 4" PVC pipe. I was a pain to cut without a ton of plastic shards (on the table saw). Just recently I've been slotting them. No chuffing from any of my ports because I size the port or ports to keep the velocity low.
Needs a flared divider or the box is gonna twist, chuff, and ignite the fumes
At least you didn't say swell...that would have made him mad! 😰
And then those birchwood boxes are gonna disintegrate. Terrible.
🤣@@blacaaro
“Sitting in the garage unfinished and you’re sitting here wasting your time when you could be working on your car”. Well damn I never felt so personally attacked before.
I remember when Doug was making that dashboard and everybody said he was doing it wrong and will never finish it.
The clients dash looks awesome 👏🏻 you are a talented individual. Would love to do something like the iPad dash modifications for customers using your products . You always have great content Doug 👍🏼👍🏼
Listen, hear kids Doug was conceived in the stock room of a car audio shop, never challenge the man!
Damn dude. That is one of the cleanest Holley dash install I have seen
Doug is the car audio equivalent of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino
WAALLLTTTT
Soundman is still one of my favorite car audio bloggers been loyal since 2011. ❤
It's good to see another video, thank you for the content.
Those boxes are going to bend. As a car audio professional i've seen bending boxes and stabbed more speakers since the early 50's.
Thanks for making a video today, I knew you could do it.
Doug, I can always come and watch your videos, and get a good laugh. Control arms are chop sticks. 😂
Hey soundman that's a great point about the power supply on the tablet having it's own connections to keep noises down since this is a sq unit ur putting together.
You should send Steve Mead one of those sticker's 😂
He would get a kick out of it from Doug don’t know if you implied he be mad or not
I was watching this got distracted started looking for engine parts for my jeep and i kept hearing this guy saying some funny shit 🤣🤣
I was entertained XD
on a miniscule level, a non-flared port would appear slightly smaller in diameter because of the boundary layer at the opening, but its a non issue in most applications. especially not in a dual 8" setup with a healthy port size.
“Your project car is sitting in the garage unfinished and you’re sitting here watching me”
I feel personally attacked… because this statement is 100% accurate. 😢
Same bro, same. I have 2 unfinished projects in my driveway. My daily's are forced to the street.
@@waynet5293 ugh. Know the feeling all too well. Recently drug home another vehicle that doesn’t run.. the hell is wrong with me? Lol
So that sign you have in the beginning " I will work for a$$". My dog likes to hump everything and my yard needs the leaves cleaned up.
I fell attacked about my car "sitting in the garage" while i watch your vidoes. LOL

Nice work on the Chevelle dash Douglas 😍
Man I miss weekly uploads. This channel is still one of my all time favorites, I just wish I could get more of it.
Everone into small sealed subwoofer boxes because of limited space need to ✔️out the new 1500rms watt NVX subwoofers. My dad has a 15" NVX VCW v3 on a 2000rms watt amplifier and it's loud 🔊 ✔️IT OUT.
I love using "horny" when Im describing something cool lolol usually only between friends but every now and then I'll drop one to someone I just met, like at the grocery store checkout or something, and their reactions tend to be hilarious 🤣🤣
No port huff, no port chuff, no huffin' and puffin', theres no chuffin' and chuffin'!
That got me
My rear extruder extended port glory hole has chuffing... I shouldve flared it to eliminate the extensive chuff flap. Good to see an upload my guy! Have a good week.
I have been gone a while. I remember this old style video. I am glad its back.
Bruh. I’m dead. “I’ve stabbed more woofers than boxes you’ve built”
Haven’t watched one of your videos in probably 5 years, glad to see not a single thing has changed!
Personally, I've always loved your builds... You inspired me years ago with your million dollar box build....
I install 2 15in fosgate punches(2ohm ea) on a 500.1 prime at 1 ohm
They are in a massive 8.4cuft 35hz labyrint ported.
You sir Doug, were a great help to me during my hobby build and without knowing it helped me through my brother's suicide, just by keeping my mind off things!!!
I don’t recall my exhaust pipe being flared
Iv stabbed more speakers then you’ve seen in real life 😂 killer shit!!!! Iam a mini truck enthusiast but got a spot in my heart for spl!! I love the vw!! Nice work OG
This poor industry….
I’ve been in since 97’ and I’ve witnessed the downturn in talent! With all the tech and new techniques, it’s sad to see what’s become of 12v!
Here’s to all the OG’s keepin it goin’ !!!
Well shit howdy brother, we need the bass dangler back. Or as i called it, the soundman Christmas tree ornament.
I remember you creating the dash for the Mule. That was a cool project.
Hi Doug, your wrapping technique is amazing. I allready used it on my new Quad Box. My result is not perfect but not bad either. I just need more practice and a better cutter.
I like how it holds the apparatus quite nicely.
Flared ports prevent turbulence. Yes, the air moves "like a piston," but both ends of the port will have plenty of air moving in and out of the port, and flares will prevent shuffing. You might not hear it if the box is installed in a car as the sound output and back seats will mask it, but that does not mean your designdont shuff, a single 3" port for dual 8" subs is very small in my opinion. I use 3x 2" flared ports for a single 6.5" in a 6th order bandpass for its lower tuned chamber. They still chuff once the velocity is high enough, at this point tho, the sub can blow out a candle more than 1 meter away, but without flares, the air velocity would need to be cut atleast in half to limit shuffing.
If those boxes don't shuff, prove it by feeding enough power to make the subs reach max cone excusion in your garage with low cut applied below tuning and film it.
Show them all what old school is all about. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Always wanted to see the dash and interior done on the mule.
Let them hate. I did have a non flared port once with a little annoying rustle. It’s a real phenomenon. I choose to believe✌️ 🛸 just putting a radius on the shoulder of the pipe ID was enough to make it not noticeable at the driver seat
I’ve only built 3 boxes
Wait, I heard from my best friend's sister's boyfriend's gay lover that 1/4 inch wet particle board was best for sub enclosures. Another person told me you don't need a port if the enclosure panels aren't cut straight. I believe him because his clothes match.😂😂😂
Yantu must have paid a ton for that advertisement........... You seem so happy to promote it!
😂 "but atleast my car is low !!"😅
You should finish that dash up.... And make door trims.... and cover that centre console.... 😁
I installed a system in a convertible the guy was happy at first. He came back a month later trying to get a refund saying it ain't loud enough lol. I told him it was not going to be the same as an SUV with a system in it. He was happy at first. Then i guess after a month he got used to it. I was like nope no refund now its a little late. He called the police. They did nothing.
love you soundman .. been a fan 4 more then 10 years !!
The inflator add made me mad. 😂”and ballz”
I love McIntosh audio. Especially McIntosh home audio. That panel looks really good the way you did the Holly screen. Gotta love how Social media, UA-cam and Google has made all these youngsters professionals at everything they do. Had some youngster tell me I didn’t know what I was talking about. He showed me his system and then I showed him mine. Then he tried to make excuses saying JL Audio, Focal, Morel and Audio Control are crap the lowest quality equipment you can buy. LMFAO
Doug went full old man get off my lawn on the kiddos lol
🤣🤣🤣 I’m still laughing after all these years.
Hahahahahaha😂😂😂😂😂 egg roles for pistons and chopstick for axels😅😅
A flare isn't necessarily needed unless the maximum vent velocity reaches over c/10 (34m/s, the alleged threshold of vent noise). Noise is constituted by turbulent flow around the lip of the port where the vent air slug shears the atmosphere.. causing a toroidal pattern of Eddie currents (in the case of a round port). This toroidal pattern of Eddie currents can begin to interfere with the boundary layer within the mouth of the port above a certain velocity level. This thickening of the boundary layer confines down the effective vent area, posing a restriction to the vent air slug. This is known as port compression. Reducing the effective vent area will reduce the efficiency of the port at and around tuning. Employing a flare to both ends of a port negates the formation of turbulent Eddie's until a much higher velocity than the vent area would suggest. This negation occurs due to the more gentle transformation of the vent air slug's velocity into pressure at the terminus of the port. This is caused by the effective increase area in the flare region. The vent air slug boundary will also follow the flare's curvature due to the Coandă effect and the pressure differential between vent and atmosphere. The flare effectively pushes the region that can form turbulence, outward, further onto the face of the baffle so it is nolonger in the path of the vent air slug. Flaring a port will reduce vent noise and increase efficiency by pushing port compression up to a higher velocity threshold. If a vent is designed to perform, well within the maximum velocity threshold of 34m/s.. a vent flare is unnecessary. There are many many papers on it. Unfortunately, most are behind the AES pay wall. Here is a free AES paper on the subject from some of the great minds from the Harmon corporate conglomerate... jahonen.kapsi.fi/Audio/Papers/AES_PortPaper.pdf
Much love doug xx
15:56 😂😂😂😂 lmao had me dead
A flare makes the bass triple speed out of the bending box causing it to go 10 times faster than the last time I saw two cars racing at the stoplight, the one guy lived his life a 1/4 mile at a time . I thought I knew what they was doing, I have no idea what I'm talking about.
you sound like Ai Robot when speaking 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 in that ad.....
New Mac system will be cool. I wonder what new vehicle it will be.
Here at work we call it "Bang an old Person "
Great head unit on the sony i really like them ive been rocking sony for 20 years their new line of mids and highs and even the subwoofer sounds like strait quality.
Love how modular the dash is lol! :D
Man them batteries would work great for my 15 in my truck on a 2k amp.. love the videos!!
Lol, Yungerself, that guy been messing my stuff up for years!
Boom and there it was if your ports the right size you won't have chufing anyway
Gotta love the newbs 🤣🤣🤣🤣🔊
Love the Mule!!!🤟😎👍 it needs more love Dougy!!!!❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯💯
Delete your hole... LOL. Too much fun for a Tuesday. Thanks Doug!
Decrease turbulence. If the port is prone to chuff…THEN…it can decrease chuffing. There is the option to account for it in WINISD.
That being said , I’ve only beveled a handful… and never done it to one of mine.
I believe there is no chuff.
Cocksfurd Ballzgate! Gets me every time.
my wife saw the the screen and said you got "Old and fat" stay winning brother!
alternator can cause a whine sometimes on high level input amps i have noticed.
They looks some nice boxes.
I always ask customers if they have the B&O system. Bangin Olsen twins
You should build a boat now and call it the duck Doug!
You should run as president 😂
Flares only help reduce velocity of the moving air... and only needed if your port is designed in a way that causes high port velocity. Sometimes it can be from bad design or other times for design limitations. Flares won't help or do anything to a port that's already moving under 10-15m/s
Doug, how do you decide if you use T-nuts VS. the threaded inserts? Does it matter? As always, love the episodes, and can you please bring back the Bass Shakers, please please please?
There is a certain sub section (rather large I might add) of high fidelity connoisseurs that "listen" to their systems much rather with an oscilloscope. Nothing beats a good clean sine wave sweep on a gigadollar system.
lol Yeeeeeeeees!!!! "I have stabbed more woofers than you have installed". I admit i have poked a few holes in surrounds. Had to tell a guy "DUDE! I have accidently broke more 2 stroke piston rings than you have watched videos of people installing them.
I don’t think a flare or not matters.
That said get a piece of pvc hook it to a hose and turn it on and watch what the water does coming out the end under pressure then flare the end of the pvc pipe and run same amount of water through it as before and see if there’s a difference in how the water reacts exiting compared to before.
What y'all know bout ports? This man has a ported steering wheel and a bandpass dash.
Someone mad🤣
It's true, if a port is sized properly there is no benifit on flares.
So the next project car will be a grand wagoneer with the oem McIntosh. 30 minutes at the dealer and you will be done🤣
Seriously if you are going all in on the system like you said that will be a hell of a system. Cant wait to see the final result on that one🚀🚀🚀
Hey would just like to know if the pioneer 80prs head unit is still available? Do pioneer still have it or can i get it to purchase elswhere
Had to bring up stabbing woofers 😔 kept 2 nib oz audio purple 12's for years. First freaking thing I did when I decided to use, stabbed both 😪
Port tips are like 😷,a fad.
Kickass video 👍
Your port pipe needs a taper and some ribs for added friction when it's pumping in and out.
Great job playboy. Keep up the quality sounds.
Hey Doug, they have some cool toilet flanges at the Depot for flared ports. lol!
Still have my istreamer when i bought my 6+ side slider kit from you ages ago
I mean, port noise is a thing. Most people have so much trunk rattle, they'll never hear it though.
