- Team Ninja are back with their biggest and most expansive game yet. Rise of the Ronin on PS5 puts you in the Tabi of a 19th Century rogue Samurai, a Ronin. Thanks to access to the full game, I am able to bring you a hands of preview of the opening few hours on PS5. The full review and technical breakdown will come later, but for now lets take a vertical slice of a feudal kind with Rise of the Ronin Hands-On Preview.

Visuals look rough but game looks fun.
04:37 Ghost of Tsushima is set in year 1274, this game is set in the late 19th century, not the same time period.
I know, I mean in the Feudal period, which is circa 800 years but a BIG Japanese history pool
@@NXGamer ah right, and to be fair Ghost has weapons and stuff that wouldn't have existed when it took place so it does kind of seem to appear closer in time to Ronin than it actually is.

Except for the graphics which are the worst I've seen for a ps5 only game ..for $70 you've got to do better in that area. Especially being a Sony backed game.
I love their games including Nioh and even older stuff like Ninja Gaiden. Can't wait for this one!
As soon as I saw this I immediately thought of Tenchu. I wish they would remake that game as if it was only just thought of and made knowing the full capabilities of the PS5.

Great preview, but in the footage that was shown was the gore/dismemberment enabled? I keep hearing about this feature coming back but most of the marketing just has blood and no dismemberment.

This game make Phil Spencer poster child game Redfall look like a PS2 game,in my opinion,since we want to compare,Redfall open world has 2 enemies roaming around..
Nice preview! A few things I wish they would make better or change is the horse galloping looks off. It would have been cool if they made combat more brutally realistic. Also yeah, the performance and graphics options. It seems like Ghost of Tsushima just looked better graphics wise and played very smooth whereas this one the gameplay isn't really that much more intense but the graphics are noticeably less defined. I'm still looking forward to it regardless but I just wish it was a bit better.
I'm excited to see what the masses says about this game. It looks good to me, but many reviewers are concerned or not sold on the game. I wonder why. I really hope it's good, because it looks good. Not usually into souls-like games, but this does not look as brutal

I;m hoping this comes to PC as I dont have a PS5, nor any intention to own one, but also I have prefered Team Ninjas take on this style of game simply due to the combat. Outside of Sekiro the From Software stuff just does not gel with me.

Game looks a lot better than i expected for a team ninja game but it still doesn't really look like a PS5 game. Also the pop in in these team ninja games can be a bit distracting. I'm sure that the game will be really good but I'm sure many people are not ok with paying 70+ dollars for a game that has subpar visuals. At the same time though I'm appalled by the people that say that this looks like a ps3 game...
Be appalled by the devs charging $70 for a game that looks so bad. It's a PS5 game and next gen only! They didn't have any other systems to hold them back and this is what they did?
@@mgxzazfbyjuchrisclarkvpz236 it's not really appalling when you consider that this is using the same engine as the Nioh games which has a lot of limitations. The game looks a generation above those games but that's still not really enough to compare to most triple a games. Also I literally said that I understand why people are not ok with paying 70 dollars for the game, I just don't understand people who say that this looks like a PS3 game, I still use my PS3, and most of the open world games on the system are really ugly.

@peter5731 yes. Because in Nioh series, my character build uses the Ninja suit as well as any associated buffs to align my character to a "silent assassin" lol

Fighting cowboy said they've dumbed down the combat compared with any of their previous titles. The reviewers I typically synergize with seem to think this is a disappointing game. Waiting to see the actual reviews, but looking at the B-roll this seems like a dated game sold for 70$
@@netwatch7261 I feel like the graphics are actually dated for next gen. Heard that the game was in development for 8 years, so it might be, that it was initially created for PS4. However, that is not an excuse to update it for PS5, many games get the PS5 makeover. Apart from that, I am actually excited for the combat and difficulty options as I am not a fan of souls like and previous Team Ninja games like Nioh

Really hope they fix all that pop-in before release, if ghost of tsushima could manage it on the last generation console there's no excuse on current gen.. speaking of which, how does the combat difficulty compare with GoT? I always found that to be just right...
It is similar at the Dusk setting but harder and the top that GoT, timing and mixing up requires more effort and focus.

@@TerraWareGoT does have great art direction but details are actually nothing special, especially textures.
@@kraenk12 Art direction trumps even the most detailed of textures imo. Ideally you want a good balance of both. To me Rise of Ronin looks more dated, whereas GoT looks more premium if that makes sense. Ronin doesnt look bad by any stretch, it looks fine.
GoT is a better looking visually appealing game imo.
This is a Preview not a review, that is later and will be more detailed. The graphics are a tough one, as it can look great but the preview limits the coverage and even what i could show. But, as noted it has areas that need to improve and I aim to cover that all and more in my full review, thanks.

Previews have been all over the place. Some are positive game looks really good, others game looks dated and not up to par with prior team ninja games. Really torn on this one.
I suggest wait for the full reviews, previews had limits on them, such as the B-roll, so wait till we have our reviews up and then decide when you can see more.
Here's what I think,
The game is meant to be more accessible than most of their other games hence the difficulty options and the style of the game. I've seen some people say that they've dumbed things down from nioh or people simply not getting the team ninja style of game design. I believe if you like open world games and like team ninja's other games then you will probably like this game as long as you don't expect the game to be exactly like nioh or wo long.
99% are very good, only one is sceptical but since corrected his statement.
Something is weird about texture detail and color palette of the open world. It makes it look and feel like a PS3 game.
Shit...This is Disappointing. Seeing how the arcade-like like the animations kills the immersion for me. i hoped it was going to be closer to a Ghosts of Tsushima blended with GTA style open world, and a deep RPG. This feels/looks like a typical "Japanese Game' if anyone knows what i mean by that. Uhh, very CAPCOM, very DYNASTY WARRIOR'esk, etc).

The gameplay shown proves otherwise. This is nowhere near the same level as Ghosts of Tsushima, its not even close.
I wasn't expecting a visual masterpiece, but this is far from what i was expecting.

Animations, low resolution textures, poor lighting, lack of AO. The game looks incredibly dated. If the combat and frame rate isn't spot on, this is going to be a huge let down.
I don't like seeing the pop-ins in a game that will cost so much. Graphics also looks last gen.
I have interest in this game Mike but at £70 premium for the standard edition I expect premium performance, animation ,sound and gameplay and from what I have seen GOT looks better and is more technically accomplished.
£50 is reasonable but £70 is taking the piss...don't get me wrong,the game may well be excellent but at that price you expect cutting edge. Sony kept saying £70 is due to having cutting edge games with the best tech,large teams, big budgets...I don't see that here. I see what is potentially a good game but not Sony's first party production values..

I thought pop-in was supposed to be one of the main things fixed this generation, with more than enough RAM and ultra I/O bandwidth, why is it still happening?

This looks awful… Regardless resolution i see here ps3 game .Setting in this game is even worse and more shallow Ghost of Shitshima …. Hard to believe this is triple A game in 2024 . Where you are going game industry…
It's undeniable. The game looks really bad.
This generation has continually disappointed graphically. These consoles are memory starved and that had hamstrung this entire generation. We had only a 2x increase on memory this gen compared to a 16x increase last gen. Just let that sink in. The SSD/io was aupposed to make up for this deficiency but Sony deciding to go multiplatform has failed to live up to their promises of revolutionary SSD usage because now games have to be designed with PC in mind. Great for PC gamers and absolutely bullshit for the people that bought PS5 on the promises we heard leading up to launch.
Games like Alan Wake 2, FF7 Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin and upcoming Dragons Dogma 2 are all massively disappointing in their own ways. Alan Wake 2 has some of the worst image quality I've ever played in a console game which ruins the otherwise great visuals. FF7 Rebirth doesn't look like a ps5 only, current gen game you'd expect for a hugely anticipated Final Fantasy follow up to FF7 Remake, despite being made for PS5 compared to Remake on PS4.
Rise of the Ronin is simply the worst looking PS5 game made yet, period, it looks like early ps4 ...certainly nowhere near as good as Ghost of Tsushima. Finally, Dragons Dogma 2 is about to release at an unlocked 30 fps which means improper frame pacing and stutter. DD2 sounds like it'll be a dumpster fire of performance on the 22nd..and here I was excited to finally play a DD game at 60 fps! Oh, and even the resolution could turn out to be a dismal 1080p at 30 fps.
Nobody can convince me that this isn't one of the most underpowered gens ever. We are in desperate need of a PS5 Pro. If and when the Pro arrives will these developers even bother to go back and patch their games to deliver actual current gen standards? For example, will we be stuck with Alan Wake 2's atrocious FSR2 artifact and aliased image quality in Fidelity mode? We'll be lucky if they bother to do that.
This is a dark period for graphics. Gamers standards are lower than ever and developers have a complete lack of respect for us with $70 games that are unfinished and poorly optimized with poor visuals.
You forgot to.mention that Alan Wake 2 is also a steaming pile pf trash gameplay and story wise. FF7 Rebirth is a bloated mess that absolutely drops the ball on writing as well. Both blockbuster Movie slop through and through.

Looking forward to GoT on PC. I think GoT looks better, based of what I have seen anyway. Not that this game doesnt look good but GoT is on another level imo. The atmosphere.
The combat system has to be so good that it keeps us coming back to play again. Ghost didn't make it fun for me to play again.

"Impressive". Lol. NO. You must not be a gamer if you think this POS is impressive. EVERY legit site that's previewed the game have all said the same things. PS3 graphics. Boring combat. Horrible animations. The horses are just laughable! Team Ninja just phoned this game in. It's going to be destroyed by Dragons Dogma 2.
