👠 My boyfriend made me turn your channel off
*I dumped him*
Scotty Kilmer Q: Which models of 6 cyl Lexus would you recommend? TY
Scotty Kilmer why struggle to clean the rear side of the new rotor? Put it on the lugs the right way...clean it. Then flip the rotor and slap it on the lugs the wrong way and clean it. No dangle clean. Work smarter not harder.
Sit my friend is learning about mechanic and he struggles because he does for first time ,but the another mechanics start to him joking about how he does
work and I try to tell first you learning mechanics sir first time have you faced any problems when did you start learn mechanics?.
For example
To put brake pads
GG Scotty, open the bleeder before you push the pistons back in. You are sending the dirty rusty fluid in the caliper back to the anti lock unit and the master cyl.
My mechanic told me that my brake rotors were groovy, so I said "Far out!" He replied, "No, that's your front end alignment." Bummer, man.
Granitehead McVoot I laughed more than I should have.
As one who worked as a teenager at a garage, very funny :-)
I heard a car joke the other day
Guy is sitting at home, phone rings its his wife, he answers " The car has water in the intake" the guy knowing his wife knows nothing of mechanics, "how do you know it has water in the intake?" " I hit the gas instead of the brake and the car went down the pier and into the ocean"
Nerd
BOOO!!! wish i had some tomatoes to throw at you.
Scotty, edited out the part where he realized that the parking brake was on while trying to remove the rear rotor.. LOL!
If you ever had to do something like this it's best to have step by step
Trevor Syversen That’s so true. Happens to the best hahaha
I've had rotors that seized to the hub before had to use a torch and heat them to get them off when he says northern cars it's pretty accurate.
Are you sure?
That's why he could turn the hub by hand right? 🤣
Scotty is a gift from god. I’ve legit saved about $500+ just learning from Scotty how to do maintenance on my car. Thank you 🙏
It's even more if you can do the maintenance yourself for the rest of your life.
DannyXY _ I’ve saved well over $1500 in the last couple years. I get that mechanics need to make money too, but the ease of some of these jobs vs. the cost of having somebody do ‘em really makes me think...
And no I’m not driving a European or performance car, it’s your typical $1k daily driver/beater.
Lucky you that your car didn't explode from this jerk advice... I'm a mechanic and I facepalm all the time I see a video from him
DrewskiTheLegend it’s insane what mechanics will charge for the simplest job. As long as UA-cam is around I’ll be my own mechanic.
I learned from Scotty and fordtechmakeuloco then I got sick of fixing my f150 and bought a Camry
1 of few things I've learned about working on your car is NEVER let the brake calipers hang by the brake lines (unless you plan on replacing those too).
Scottys old intro i like it as much as the other intro
YOU FORGOT... to grease the most important part, the brake caliper slider pin/bolts. The majority of dragging brake problems is caused by the slider pin/bolt seizing up from being rusty, or not having enough grease.
Even still, good video!
Grease attracts dirt wears down the slide pins
I agree. If not greased the pads will wear unevenly. Whomever says they shouldn't greased doesn't know enough to take their opinion seriously.
Joe Pierson modern slide pins often have dust covers just for that reason.
He forgot to replace the brake hardware as well.
Dont forget NO loctite and NO torque the mounting bolts. Beginning to think Loctite and a torque wrench mark the difference between one sort of mechanic and another.
Scotty is back to his OG intro.
I guess I missed what brake pads should be illegal on your car... Still, you missed two important items. The first is cleaning and lubricating the caliper pins. If you fail to do that, the pads tend to wear on the piston side. The second is the parking brake. You didn't even check the shoes, located inside the rear rotor.
Don't forget #3 Pressing brake pedal a few times before driving to re-seat caliper pistons (takes out slack between the caliper pistons and pads).
I noticed the parking brake as well. And did you notice the inside of the rotor? Parking brake never gets used. Nothing but rust. Half done job.
@Mark Codiroli That's because you don't open the bleeder. The fluid flows back into the MC reservoir. Or maybe that's how you do it on your rocket ships...
@@daeljuma should open bleeder. By pushing brake fluid under pressure back to master cylinder you have the possibility of contaminants, like rust, plugging the small orifices in the ABS module. Brake fluid loves to absorb moisture. That's how it gets brown in color and its boiling point is reduced.
@Mark Codiroli Easier to just open the lid on the MC. Pistons will push back pretty easy.
My favorite Scotty moment is any bolt that he defeats with the sigh UUGGGHHH 😆
That and when he laughs with a horse picture next to him😂😂😂
He does that with every nut and bolt he loosens
His grunts are the like the clicks of a torque wrench
@@nasilemak868 Right !! 😊
He needs a shirt with that UUGGGHHHH
“The crows are watching today.”
Scotty is my spirit animal.
awesome!
You referring to RIP off mechanics who change your brakes when you dont need too. Lmao
Scotty is "Essential Services" in these times.
Minor but *important* detail, Scottie:
When it's all put back together, *before* starting the car or moving it:
*PUMP THE PEDAL.*
That will 'seat' the new pads (or shoes on drum brakes) and avoid nasty surprises, like the pedal going to the floor on your first drive.
Also keep an eye on the fluid level.
Louis Jantzen as a high school kid in auto shop class, I made that same mistake and wrecked some lockers!
Always love your videos and I've even used many of your techniques + tips when working on my Pontiac G6 v6 2006 w/ 173,800 miles. Keep up the good work Scotty! :D
This reminded me of when my brother was trying to get the rear rotors off with the e-brake on😄
How long you let him set and fight with it before telling him? Same situation with my brother, I let him fight for a half hour before telling him lol
@Viking Mike Q yep, that was the point. He wanted to learn how to maintain his car, so, even if seems mean, I felt I had to do it. To prepare him.
bryan woo I think everyone did that at least once!
@Viking Mike Q also a great way to fine tune his ability to stream swear words smoothly!
Even if not on they can be hard. Simply turn the adjustment back a bit. Takes 2 min to turn and 3 min to adjust again. My suv i turned them back. They still work just not perfect
Hey Scotty. Thanks for showing us how easy it is to do a brake job. It's cool that you let your customers bring the new parts. Many of the mechanics here in Pittsburgh won't go for that since they prefer the mark-up in price.
I hear you Scotty, I need to do my brakes asap. Always lovin the videos bruh.
Great video, very informative!
I always coat the hub face with anti seize, up here if it's a return customer you'll thank yourself later
Dustin Pomeroy and this is the second brake job video I’ve seen where he doesn’t clean the hub, drives me crazy!
@@jamesschlueter8035 I saw that too! Damn grab a wire brush and hit it a few licks Scotty!
I agree with antisieze but not on the hub face. Just on the hub ring, that's where it usually seizes. Put it on the face and the customer doesn't do a retorque, now its a loose wheel.
@@nathanmarshall5669 it was a bad joke, when I said return customer I was meaning yourself
@Mark Codiroli tell those politicians they can come change parts for me next time then 🤣
so good that u r still here for us ... thank u
That's my First time too actually see Scotty Work on a Car step by step. He made changing those Brakes look like Childs play.....always a Pleasure too watch your Videos Scotty! I'm still needing my Alternator Changed out on my 07 Lexus is250.

Still loving that classic scotty intro. Mix it up
Thanks Scotty, you are the best! God bless you, stay safe!
Thanks for the video Scotty. Stay safe.
I live in California. I feel like driving my car to Houston and having Scotty working on it. There’s nothing wrong with it, I just want Scotty to work on it.
So you'll drive over 1,500 miles just to have a mechanic fix your car, just to get back and need it repaired again? Very good logic you have there.
@@lupavo1738 ... It's called facetious. Lighter than sarcasm.
Paulous why would you do that when he will just make a youtube video of your car saying “Here’s why you shouldn’t buy this car”

Loved this video! Great seeing Scotty doing what he does best!
Great Video ! Also , I find that removing the Master Cylinder Cap allows the Caliper to be pushed back in easier . Just make sure to re-install and step down on brakes a few times before moving the car . Greeting from Grand Island , Scotty !
I am watching this from Quarantine/Lockdown in NYC. Scotty's consistently energetic voice is so calming as the body count goes through to the roof here. Thnx Scotty, a much needed distraction from the constant monotony of bad news.

if Scotty is still making vids then alls right with the world.
I'm glad to see even Scotty Kilmer works just like the regular folks ... On the ground ... I just changed the rear pads on my 2012 Scion Xb ... Changes them just in Time .. cuz one side was really thin !!!
AWESOME!! It's seems like forever since we've seen Scotty do a burnout
Love ur vids keep it up scotty
I replaced the rear drum brakes on my taurus last summer.
Doing both took me a week. Every day I walked to and from work and then worked on it haha.
Out there hammering the hell out of it for hours. At one point I used a prybar and broke a chunk of the drum off but it wasn't too helpful.
Once you get it all apart its pretty simple to replace the guts. Then getting a new drum on is difficult but not as much as removal.
One drum took 3 hours to remove. The other took at least twice as it had fully expanded and wore one side of the brake to metal. (so that's why it was squeaky in reverse..)
Fairly 'easy' procedure that is either going to take you minutes or hours depending on rust and the situation of the brake assembly xD
Great video Scott. Always like mechanics helping people know how on their own.
Loved the video! Not sure I'll do the job myself anytime soon, but it's good to know exactly what's involved, and that I could do it if I needed to.
Was I the only one waiting for him to say, "It's time for the Scotty Kilmer channel"
Philip P Nope Lol! I was disappointed he didn’t haha

I wish you taught us about the wheel end and emergency brakes while you were there
was thinking the same.
Should have serviced the rear shoes and clean surface of rear hub and apply a light coat of anti seize so rear rotor will run true
smellyfeet arestinky that’s reserved for another day
nice repair Scotty ! Wish you luck and good health !
Thanks for the great advice!
Once I thought I had to change my brakes they just had to be adjusted. My brake pedal was going almost all the way to the floor but luckily I had an honest mechanic
@iNSTAGiB I’m not a mechanic but I think he had to adjust the drum brakes

I see Scotty makes extensive use of the "German Torque Wrench".... GoodentightenYa!... :)
Goodentight,I thought that was a German virgin
I heard of it as "German Torque spec." as opposed to "wrench" without the "enYa!...".Which in a way is ironic as Germans are often more 'fastidious" (you can use the 'a...' word if you wish) about tightening to a specified torque than Americans.
Nyzentite
He only gave it one grunt, not tight enough.
I thought "grunts" occur with increased tightness.
as always ..thanks scotty for the confidence you help to develup with working my own car;and be more wise with it.
Hello Scotty, Your straight forwardness is refreshing. I do appreciate it.
You may have discussed these cars before but I have not seen any videos on them.
What is your opinion of Infinity Q50's?
Great retro intro. Use the motorcycle intro too.
When your brake rotor looks like a wood dinner plate
lol
Scotty the man per usual. Respect for showing everyone how. My goodness that rear caliper is thin.
Scotty is honestly the best thing to see in the internet, quarantine or not!
For years I used regular axle grease on brake parts. I didn't realize that there was special high temp grease. Since I started using the right grease my brakes work much better

SCOTTY!! You didn't grease the caliper pins. Tsk tsk
MarkC. I was looking for this comment 😂
It's not the worst thing in this video. I'm pretty sure he left those rear brake calipers hanging from the brake lines as well.
I'm quite sure there was a LOT he did off-camera. As long as he's been working on cars & as detailed as he seems.... wouldn't think he'd forget &/or skip something so commonly known & done; so important, ya know? Just a thought. Stay safe & be well.
I was reading online and break caliper grease will lock up your pins. Idk why but there's alot of complaints about it
@@JoseRamirez-yh2ll If you don't grease the pins with the right grease, and if you don't grease (after cleaning with a wire brush) the slots the brake pads sit in you can have premature break wear. I know, it happened to me on multiple cars before I learned this.
I like these hands-on videos best!
I've seen at least a thousand car videos on UA-cam, but Scotty is always the best.
I'm surprised Scotty doesn't have "Big Nasty" to take those old rotors off.

@@FredTheLutinoCocatiel Which lube? It would be disastrous if it ends up on the braking surface.

Hey Scotty, since gas prices keep going down and down do you think other oil products will come down in price? For example I see motor oil is exactly the same as it was months ago, will companies start to drop prices on these oil products?

Your bonus questions and answers is the best part
Front brake
what about the guide pin? NO LUBE!!!

You left the whole assemble angling on the hose!!!
If doing so does not kink the hose, it is not a problem. On some cars it does, on others it doesn't.

Believe me scotty i just did my brakes here in wisconsin in the front and they were not fun after a lot of rusty salt.
In PA, my car rusted out before I needed to change the pads.

Never thought the silent stop pads felt cheap... Have used them on all my cars for years without noise or bad wear... I do service the calipers every year though (northern car) gotta clean the rust out... Always get a kick out of your videos though! Keep up the good work
Love your videos
This looks so easy more men should kno how to repair their own brakes if necessary. .
😎 I could this myself
Dont look at me. I done the dishes.
Yes, but that's because Scotty is an expert in making car repairs look very easy. In reality you can have setbacks even on a seemingly simple job like this. For instance a piston that won't retract or a brake fluid leak that prompts further (bigger!) repairs.
You would be shocked how many men won't touch a vehicle for even simple repairs. I always hear 'I can afford to pay somebody'. Well, I can as well, but if I can fix it, I rather do it anyway
Women also need to learn how to do this so they don't get ripped off by dishonest mechanics. My kids for sure will have to learn 👍
The mechanic's first rule : When in doubt, get a bigger hammer...and don't call me Shirley.
Beat it with a BFH (Big F’n Hammer)!!! That will ‘Shirley’ work.
