Great outcome. I'm a retired mechanic, and always used Ryco filters thought close to 40yrs in the trade. Always found the brand to be fantastic, and was shocked when watching your previous video. Glad that Ryco finally came through with the customer service that I've known them to have. I'm sure your problems will be solved now, and future problems will be prevented.
You are a brave man. Difficult topic to discuss on UA-cam or anywhere for that matter:)) Really enjoy the content. No BS and you seem like a reasonable bloke. Very diplomatic. Thanks for the upload.
Echoing the comments below; have used a lot of Ryco products in my mechanical career and was shocked to hear how you were treated, this outcome has - some what - restored my faith in Ryco. Great outcome!
Yes, agree with Matt. Its easy to be suspicious that Ryco is only doing this because of bad publicity...it could be they have actually taken it on the chin and are actively improving corporate culture as we speak. That would be nice, I find it hard to believe since they elected to sweeten the deal with quite a few extras, but fixing up the bloody mindedness that lead to your initial reaction would be the right (and smart) thing to do. Time will tell.
I love my 4.5 petrol cruiser , 2001 400k, yep she likes a drink but who doesn’t. Nothing but standard servicing, engine, driveline untouched. Brake pads, oil changes etc etc all done in the garage. A cruiser you can still work on yourself, still going strong and will be for a long time yet. Go the old girl👍👍👍
I had a look at the Ryco kit for my 2015 Colorado but the hoses looked too small for that application. Everyone off road or touring needs a fuel/water separator. Glad this worked out for you.
These videos on the ryco catch can had me a bit intrigued, I’ve had one on my 4d56 in my MN triton for about 30,000 kms , and is going fine . Anyway , after watching your vids went out to the shed to check my catch can (rcc350) and found that the rubber check valve in the lid would only block airflow if the filter were to become completely blocked . Nice work on the videos 👍
on an extra comment from my last one on a previous vid, i purchased my gxl ( 2014 model ) ex TJM display car, in 2017, 2 weeks later i installed a water watch system, you can look that up. no issues so far after 4 years.
Totally understand your dilemma regarding catch cans I have a Provent 200 and have had it for over 100k seems no problems however can't help thinking of the counter argument suggesting that oil actually helps catch much of the abrasive carbon before it enters your engine wearing away at the valve seats and cylinders. Anyhow food for thought I guess and good luck hope it works out well.
when I installed the provent catch can to my 2016 70 series Land Cruiser it came in kit form.. but the kit really was the catch can, a bracket for the can, length of drain hose with valve and two input and out put hoses with rubber adaptors to connect to the can, plus some hose clamps. not really kit a with pre-formed and moulded hoses, and the instructions were a little vague. the rubber adaptors perished in no time and I had to replace them. based on this experience I would say the Ryco unit is more vehicle and kit specific. except for the perished rubber hose adaptors, my provent has worked well over 80,000 kilometers and I usually drain about 100ml of oily waste every 5,000 kilometers. the filter has been replaced once. as an aside, I have many years experience using Ryco hydraulic products and have no complaints with their gear
Hi mate, just a follow up to this, did this catch can issue become resolved following the instalment of the ryco rcc351?? I had the same issue with the rcc350 and was only with investigation I found the catch can was the issue (I’ve now installed the rcc351 ) now
I’ve still got the 351 in there but I took the filter out ages ago so it’s not doing much. The timing cover seals in the front of the engine appear to have been damaged by the original 350 and it weeps all the time now. With the filter in it dripped as well so I’ve left it out for the last 12 months or so.
I have no comment on the brand being good or bad, I don’t know. But again, I question whether a catch can is needed at all. I’ll let you know once my mileage hits 300k without one fitted to my VDJ76 and whether I’ve experienced any problems. Cheers
It would genuinely be interesting to see two engines that have done similar types of work at that sort of milage with and without catch cans wouldn’t it.
I don’t think you’re crazy. Obviously someone at Ryco just blew you off but someone else there with a brain realised the damage a video like yours can do to a reputation and reached out to repair the damage in the best and most genuine way possible. Ryco know that if this catch can is no good you will let people know that so they must have faith in their product. That fitting kit is the ducks nuts. I would have done exactly what you are doing. I wonder if Ryco would like my address😂😂 Cheers Stuart.
Cheers Stuart. Nice to hear someone agreeing with me on this, because I’m still questioning myself over putting it on 😂 It does look the goods, a couple of thing not perfect but only small issues. I’ll go through them in detail soon.
I currently have a rcc350 on my 2019 76 series haven't had any problems with it yet. But the elements are expensive compared to their german made counterparts so im changing to a provent. As far as the other filters on the vehicle when I first bought the vehicle i purchased tried and compared Ryco and genuine Denso filters needles to say i wasn't happy with the quality of the ryco filters or how they performed. Oil filters semi collapsed Fuel fiter wasn't wound as tight Air filter seal is about 2mm thiner than genuine which could lead to dusting.
@@JebbreysJibberish yeah surprisingly no issues with mine i had no option was all that i could get at the time fortunately i didn't get a kit just the catch can and made my own kit so it didn't hurt the pocket much. As for the other Ryco filters i had no luck there so ive stuck with genuine which are the same price or cheaper.
Yeah I’m trying to use genuine where I can but it’s hard if you need stuff on the weekend. I actually think the last fuel filter I put in was a Ryco…. Will have to check that out next service.
Chris I have a 2012 79 dualcab with 290,000 km on the clock after warranty I have done all the servicing change oil, fuel & air filters every service normally use Donaldson or Toyota filters in the 2 occasions I used Ryco dust got past the air filter . I emailed & spoke to Ryco in early 2020 they said they were going to look into it . BTW i live in the bush & work on mine sites on occasion so lots of dirt . I’ll stick with Donaldson & genuine .

They didn’t pay me off, it’s exactly as I said. They sent me that gear and asked me to send the old catch can back. I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to put it on after what happened but it does look ok so I’m giving it a go. And I’ll be telling you how it goes warts and all soon.
Not been my experience of over 40 years of working in a 4x4 shop, we fitted hundreds and that has not been the case, but as for blanking plates I do not recommend that option, catch can and EGR delete electronically is a much better option.
I fitted it all up yesterday, but a lot of editing and a few extra projects on the go but it’s coming! I compare the two filters from the 350 and 351 as well. Slight changes. I will be interested to see what people think about that because I’m not sure why it’s different.
I don’t think it’s a change of tune. I got free stuff and and explanation so I’m going to give it a go. The fitting kit does look amazing, that’s just a fact. We’ll see how good it is when I got to fit it, I say it how it is. What chev can I buy in Australia?

Sounds like a sensible approach that you have taken, looks like a good kit and pleased to see that Ryco has reached out to rectify the issue.

How much did Ryco pay you off?

Putting a catch can on your car takes oil away from the upper cylinder and causes the valves to ware out faster ( as do blanking plates )
Not been my experience of over 40 years of working in a 4x4 shop, we fitted hundreds and that has not been the case, but as for blanking plates I do not recommend that option, catch can and EGR delete electronically is a much better option.
