The best keying tutorial I've found. Keying always seems to be a chunky process but these effects really cleans it up and makes it a lot easier. FANTASTIC tutorial, thanks Jake
thank you man. Was having a tough time with Keylight, but the "trinity" Color Range / Key cleaner / Advanced spill supressor did the job with the quality I needed. The result was much better than keylight. Thanks!
I cannot express to you how transformative this explainer is. I've been using Keylight - FOR YEARS - and even after many tutorials, one series in particular that was very, VERY good and covered keying more generally (which was also quite transformative), but used Keylight specifically - nothing has been more eye opening to how it works. From this moment forward, I dub thee...St. Jake. Or maybe JinMo. Jake Mo? JakeinMo... Saint Jake it is.
This is the best AE green screen tutorial I've come across so far. Most people just key their example, only using the appropriate settings. That is only helpful if you're keying the same footage as they are. Thanks for explaining all of the controls and what they do, and what situations they might be useful in!

I know you’re just messing around with this thumbnail, but honestly, if the thumbnails in this series started showing what the effect does, It would be great. Love this series, man.
I plan to go back and update the ones that make sense to show the effect with after I've finished the series. But this one literally shows what keylight does, right?
@@JakeInMotion Yeah, of course! When I said messing around, I really just meant because it’s not normally that you do this type of thumbnail. Can’t wait to see the updated thumbnails!
Amazing tutorial, probably one of the best I have ever seen! There is a lot of information but the instructions are so clear, well-explained and organised that it is pure pleasure to watch it.
I've always wanted to get more into the details of this plugin and realize I missed out on so many great settings! I cannot stress enough how big of a legend move it was from you to show ALL Effects from AE in separate Videos. With such a high quality standard. It is a blessing for everyone using the software. THANK YOU JAKE!
I just want to thank you for this AMAZING tutorial. I hadn't had to do any keying in years so I was using many outdated methods (and frankly time wasting ones) that was driving me insane. Your video basically solved every problem I had. I'm so grateful for this!
Great Job, Exactly what I needed. after applying what I learned I had a huge grin on my face ALL DAY.. and i gave me the confidence to move forward with my project. My Wife even asked me why I was so happy...then at breakfast she said I had the pinky and the brain take over the world look on my face LOL!!!!! Thanks so much PRICELESS!
Jake has become my Guru!. save my life with this since I have a very specific footage of a TV over pink grass and the screen is playing blue noise... and with color rage I am making it! Thanks!
Excellent explanation of each component, and tutorial. I've done a bit of greenscreen in the past, but needed a refresher, really helped be understand what I was actually changing. I've always used Colour Key first, but for the footage I am working on, this method meant I didn't need to include that step.
That's a fantastic and comprehensive look at the effect - it does so much more than I thought it did. So much control... It's something I really appreciate about all your videos, you don't just tell us how to do something, you also explain how it works or why it will have a certain result, which is incredibly helpful to wrap one's head around using it. Thank you!
I have to say this is the best detailed explainer video of these 3 important features. Unlike other youtubers trying to do something fancy and go through it super high level rubbish. Well done Jake
Wow! It's like you are reading my mind, extracting from there the need for a keying tutorial perfectly ballanced between depth and ease... and then the need is instantly gone. I'm gratefull for your time, and willingness to share your knowledge. Kudos for your - apparently very natural - teaching skills. It is all delivered straight up to fulfill my above mentioned need! Just amazing. Subscribed with pleasure!
dang, it's 1 AM and I'm watching this for my project but my head is going to explode because of so many information 🤯 but anyway, thanks for the video! it's super helpful!
Wow. Really nice and complex effect. Really have been waiting for long for this one. You are doing a really great job. :) Thanks for sharing and explaining each and every detail of it.
Jake, I love your videos - thanks! I know this isn't the focus of the tutorial but I'd love to see something about creating the distorted caricature-type Shia's you made for the thumbnail. Any tips on how best to pull those off on moving subjects in video?
Darn it Jake! You did it again! this is exactly the video that was needed... this one should be bought by adobe... it is the perfect tutorial about how keylight works. Thanks Jake. One quick question... How can I simulate motion blur of a chromaed footage, when the footage itself had none, meaning it was shot with high shutter speed and f5.6? thanks in advance
When I use the effect despill bias and Alhpa bias, the green tint from the skin goes away, but appears almost all over the surface of the skin very strong noise and when exporting is very visible, how to fix?????
Can you make a video on, "How to Remove Green Screen from Glass but we need to keep the reflection of the person falling on the glass?" Example: If You r shooting a car scene on a green screen and the reflection of the person driving the car is falling on the window next to him but since the background is green we need to replace it with footage but need to keep the reflection of the driver. So how can we do that? I would really appreciate it, if you make a dedicated video for the same❤️
when using keylight i sometimes get holes in the subject. is there a way to use a brush to mark what you want to keep? or which method would you recomend in this case?
The best keying tutorial I've found. Keying always seems to be a chunky process but these effects really cleans it up and makes it a lot easier. FANTASTIC tutorial, thanks Jake
Totally agree! Brilliant!
This is by far the best keying video on YT period.

I like that you get right to the point
Sorry babe, I can't come to bed yet. The Keylight video finally came out.
Seen a lot of tutorials, but this one just killin others. One and only tutorial that I watched to the end, and did everything good in first go.
Excellent explanation of each component, and tutorial. I've done a bit of greenscreen in the past, but needed a refresher, really helped be understand what I was actually changing. I've always used Colour Key first, but for the footage I am working on, this method meant I didn't need to include that step.
This is one of the best advanced keying tutorials I've ever seen! Fantastic! That you so much for posting! 👍👍
Thanks. Good vid for going over all of Keylight controls...and not just a few.

You are my savior!! God bless You man!))
🍎 for teacher, thank you.
Thank you! Can you make a tutorial about every single effect in AE. Haha!
I see you are having fun with the thumbnails recently, Jake
It feels like that kinda humor when you're really tired and you just let it go 😁
I can't believe I can watch these for free
Yess back with the cool thumbnails!
Vers good Video. Very informative. Well described. Good Job.
amazing tutorial
“And *that* is a happy accident.” Yes it was. Made me snort. Another great video. I’ll likely watch this one several more times

but anyway, thanks for the video! it's super helpful!
And this is what I call a tutorial. Thank you. Edit: Ok, I need to edit this. This is like the fucking bible for After Effects users.
Super super useful tutorial 👏👏👏
Sweet. Never used Key Cleaner. Not sure why... couple tutorials I watched about green screens didn't mention it.
thank you!
Thanks a lot💚
Great tutorial.
Wow. Really nice and complex effect. Really have been waiting for long for this one. You are doing a really great job. :) Thanks for sharing and explaining each and every detail of it.
Thank you for going into such detail for every single setting. I've watched so many green screen videos on YT, and yours is the best!
Jake, I love your videos - thanks! I know this isn't the focus of the tutorial but I'd love to see something about creating the distorted caricature-type Shia's you made for the thumbnail. Any tips on how best to pull those off on moving subjects in video?
Check out my video on liquify!
This might be 2 years old but its still good.
Awesome video. Subscribed.
Thank You!!!
awesome!
Excellent!
Great explanation! One question, should I apply my corrective LUT before or after the key?
Great question! I don't know 😆. I'd just try it both ways and see which works better.
You're welcome! You could try adding the pixel motion blur effect. Check out the effects of after effects video on that one.
Dude You are awsome 🤩🥰
*key cleaner vs "refine soft mate" have diffirent sir?*
I can't find that plugin in CS6 version, do I need to download it and add it to after effect?
When I use the effect despill bias and Alhpa bias, the green tint from the skin goes away, but appears almost all over the surface of the skin very strong noise and when exporting is very visible, how to fix?????
Legend!

2 years passed damn
No one who has used Keylight for years uses the "Replace Color", "Inside/Outside Mask" things nor the color correction direct inside of Keylight :D
when using keylight i sometimes get holes in the subject. is there a way to use a brush to mark what you want to keep? or which method would you recomend in this case?
like using a brush on the screen matt
lmao mirror shia killed me
Lovely
king
Do you have a Udemy Course?
19:10 youre mistaken. you dont do manual mask shape like this, it will take you forever. you do another mask for the Inside and the Outside.
i love you
