Another great video John - perhaps in part two the series you will include some suggestions for how to find these inspirations. A great deal of the hunt for treasure is not in the map, rather in the guide that takes you to those points. How can one be an effective self-guide to find these seemingly hidden inspirations? A good start to emotional story-telling and object empathy is to engage in mixed-use sensorial mashups. I often suggest "look for the story, the purpose, the intensity of an object and listen to it." As you so aptly point out through the example of musicians.
Great insights as always, Raffi. I sort of take the search for granted because I have been doing this for a long time. I make these little connections several times a day. Everything is viewed through the lens of a designer. Kind of like how street skateboarders reimagine and repurpose the urban landscape as a means of acrobatic self-expression. I'm going to have to think back to when I was a little bit younger and dig deep around how I made those connections.
Wow, that was really mind blowing, I've got so much information I'll have to see it again a couple of times. Thank you for all of this great content!!!
Another great video! Many times young designer's staff are often seen as 'powerless', 'meaningless', or 'feel-less'. Do you know if there are any good books I can read about what symbols I can consider to use to achieve a certain feel in the design language?
Emotional Design and Design of Everyday things by Don Norman are good. They aren't exactly what you're asking for, but they're the closest thing. In the meantime, you can check out these videos. Someday I might make a book or a robust video program.
Wow - hearing a native english speaker pronouncing Dieter Rams nearly perfect irritated me A LOT :D for a second i thought it was wrong not absolutely right That makes you one of the best design teachers out here. That along some other skills ;) Keep it up your content is really great I appreciate it a lot
I’m going to school for sustainable product design and innovation, thank you I plan on watching all your videos. I’d love the chance to get to speak to you. Do you visit campuses to speak?
In regards to the woman on the piano at the end, I thought you were going to say "find inspiration from her and click those like and subscribe buttons the way she clicks those keys" or were you trying to inspire me to click those?

This video is really cool. I love how you show that inspiration can be drawn from anything! quite literally. Ideas come from experiencing life!
Thank you so much! I agree 100%

I occasionally speak at Universities, but you can talk to me on my discord channel if you want, as well.
Hey, I'm looking to get into a similar field, more focused on furniture design and integrating nature. May I know which university offers this course?
