Crimson Glow Valstrax Dodging Guide (No Evade Extender/Window) [MHR: Sunbreak]

  • I tried to keep this a mostly defense-oriented guide so that it applies to more weapon types. Different weapons will have their own methods of taking advantage of the openings made by these moves, but all of the blademaster weapons besides lance/gunlance should be able to avoid the moves in a similar way.
    Positioning precisely can be murky when Valstrax has multiple targets, so play it safe online. If you're going to be doing a lot of online hunts, one point in evade extender will be worth the investment.

    For anyone interested I found the soundtrack. It's called Fly with Me from Urusei Yatsura Movie 5: The Final Chapter. Very fitting considering the title and Valstrax.

    Great vid man!
    As someone who never fought Valstrax before his moveset seem terrifying at first but once i got the hang of some of them it becomes a very fun and rewarding fight, since his recovery animations are pretty generous.
    Your vid help me with some of the moves i haven't found an out yet :D
    Keep up with the good work!

    Fun fact when Valtrax flies up for the dive you are actually out of combat and can just do a camp return to cheese it, no Farcaster needed.

    • @mugwort1
      @mugwort1  2 роки тому +1

      I actually didn't know that! I wonder if it was like that in G/GU too but probably difficult to test because of no free out of combat fast travel. It's also interesting considering you need to have a monster to face away from to do superman dive.

    Half the bullshit from MR Val is the tracking and the charged state. While it’s possible to lock him into the charge, forfeit trying to stop it. If your needing a breather from the charged state, run a felyne with kittenator, or use puppet/marionette spiders. For some reason these trips dispel the charge state

    He really like to use it's laser beam attack after his enraged roar. Sure it's easy to counter the roar for easy damage, but for GS and charge blade its usually instant death. Not always happen but pretty often.

    • @mugwort1
      @mugwort1  2 роки тому +1

      Power sheathe diagonally forwards is usually a pretty safe bet when you aren't sure what to do next on GS. CB I don't play much so I'm not sure of the options there, I'm assuming you take absurd chip trying to GP either beam. The answer there is most likely a well placed morphing advance and side roll but I'd have to try myself.

    • @jordanwilliam3207
      @jordanwilliam3207 2 роки тому

      Be careful if you're flinching it everytime before it truly finishes the attack (that means, until it finishes taunting after the beam), because it'll do another one everytime this happens.

    I'm a longsword player as well. I noticed his hit zones on his legs are bad, but he is very weak to all elements except dragon. Would you recommend building for element? Or should you still build for raw and focus exclusively on his head and wings?

    • @mugwort1
      @mugwort1  Рік тому

      Trying to bring heavy element vs valstrax can be frustrating because those elemental weaknesses on his head and wings go away when he enrages, and you're often dragonblighted which takes it away as well. It's best to focus on raw damage since it'll always be very effective no matter what. Any element on your weapon will just be a bonus whenever you hit his chest while he pumps it

    MR Valstrax was tricky to me at first. i needed a good 10-20 kills before he started feeling more natural to me with GS.
    i started out with a punishing draw style until i noticed that you can counter the dragon energy that he leaves on the ground after many attacks.
    i'm still having trouble punishing him with GS when he's charging up.
    it's really easy with lance or swaxe for me, but i seem to never be in position with greatsword, when he does it.

    • @mugwort1
      @mugwort1  2 роки тому +5

      Consistently punishing his chest with GS is a nightmare, you have to play extremely proactive and greedy if you want to get a topple every time. It's easier to play it safe and hang out in front of him since the flinch threshold for exploding it carries over between times when he charges it up.

      I'll give you a tip for gs against valstrax, right starts, tcs counter on roar, then stand there he's gonna double roar cause he's mad from your previous tcs, regular counter it eith a lvl 3 regular charge counter and he will now charge, you can do a lvl 3 charge after the lvl 3 regular charge and that topples him via chest explosion, and now valstrax is virtually dead, because every time he gets up he will desperately try to charge again, so all you gotta do is tcs bomb counter and he will fall everytime, till ge dies, easy to get 2 min runs like this if you hit everything of course, and while he's down from the topple you can do one quick tcs, kinda hard to squeeze it in but ye, works

    the wing slaps are so annoying lol. the other move that gets me is when he dashes to you and then finishes with a shotgun blast instead of diving at you

    • @spinomania1921
      @spinomania1921 2 роки тому

      The easy way to tell if he's going to do a shotgun or a dive is the by listening to the sound
      The dive has a screeching sound to it while the shotgun blast has electric crackling

    What's the music playing? Also does this guide apply to High Rank Valstrax as well? I'm not sure if Master Rank monsters just hit harder or are faster as well.

      His elemental hitzones are very weird that way since they go down to 0 when enraged in most places and his shot hitzones are really odd too. I think you can aim for his wings when they're glowing and the little part that connects the wings to the back.
