Mississippi has produced and birthed the greatest black minds, warriors, voices, and etc but it amazes me how these great people that descend from Mississippi forget where they come from. I have Mississippi roots and when I get a little older and financially independent I will try to help and contribute to the delta’s plight!!!

Immigrated to go to college in Jackson, MS. Ended up living there 22 years! After grad school, some of my most memorable moments were going out to do audits of Nonprofits in Coahoma County. The flat plains and wide open spaces of the Delta were quite something. I loved the drive from Batesville to Clarksdale especially. Jamming to soft music on my radio. And the black people were always so friendly, even to a foreigner like me! And please don't get me started on the delicious Mississippi food I miss so much! So many good memories of Mississippi in general. Most importantly, Christ saved me there on April 12, 2015 :) Mississippi will therefore always have a special place in my heart. God bless you all who still live there.

Mississippi folks are the best! This little documentary is what the majority of the country doesn't know - or want to believe! Thanks for shining the light on this!
Sweet! I went to Highland high school, but most folks never heard of highland. I wrestled in the early 90's and went up against alot of great wrestlers from calumet and west side.

Have a question. Can you please tell me something great about Gary, IN? I've passed through many times coming and going off of I-90 from Milwaukee to the east coast for the last 25 years. Never really stopped and hung out(that I can remember). Everyone I know has nothing good to say about Gary.
I was raised in the Delta. I'm white, but i had black friends too. When i went to their house it was yes mam and no mam . If i got in trouble there , i got my butt tore up ,and got another when i got home. Respect is how we lived . I wish we still had the good ole days.
Thank you for this lovely look at the past..this is what formed my husband into the sweet godly man he is today..the summers he spent with his grandparents in just such circumstances shielded him from crazy life he had to face in his life in Chicago. I am glad that I was born and raised in the Delta, this documentary is right on point as to how we loved and cared for each other, during the time I grew up. I was born in Grace Ms, then moved to Greenville Ms. While living in Grace, I went to Rolling Fork, for my childhood shots. Thanks for this documentary, highlighting the good life. We loved each other and not only did we love each other, we were quick to show it.
Catherine OXNER, WOW! I was born in Grace, MS in 1956, and my mother moved us to Greenville when I was seven years old. I attended a school in Mayersville (I hope I am spelling it correctly) for first grade. I graduated from Greenville High School in 1975 and married my childhood sweetheart the very next day and we moved away. We came back briefly before moving to Texas where we are still today. I was home in Greenville last year for a funeral and the condition of the city is heartbreaking. I still have a sister and her kids and grandkids living there but I would never return to live. I love my hometown and cannot believe the poverty there.

Greenville, Mississippi Born and Bred! The Delta way of comradame was priceless, even though we were the hub where newly freed slaved, after the Civil War layed foundation, reunited and kept up with family. Those to whom Reparations is due, explaining why Federal Funds are withheld from Mississippi. The bottom only financially, but the people are kindhearted and charitable. We truly encourage ourselves and others. Great Video.
Moved to Mississippi with my parents in 1972. I was 6. Lived in North Catrollton and Belzoni until 2017 when I moved to Arkansas. Mississippi will always be home.

Being a Brit and a Blues fan (read diehard fanatic) I took a Greyhound Bus from Memphis down Highway 61 to Clarkesdale - a great experiece and genuinely very friendly people. The poverty was a shock - on a level with Bangla Desh, the people were very generous to me, it seems like the less they have the more they give.
Growing up in Alabama I was envious of my cousins in Coahoma, Washington & Sunflower counties. Most of my relatives are buried in the Delta. It still is to me the center of the world. But now it's 2000 miles away.

I can’t believe how much I miss Natchez having been raised WASP in Buffalo, attended potted IVY New England college, became a physician and ultimately worked in Natchez for 4 years. Made new friends on the flatlands across the river in Vidalia, LA. I play drums, and how I discovered the music. The music. The music! Would set up my ham radio on the Natchez bluffs, watch the barges ply up and down the river. Floods one year, then too low for some barges to pass the next. The river was the lifeblood. The preserved mansions to the Infamous Under the Hill saloon.
My Great Grandma Ella Gibson Hinton born in Cary Mississippi. My Gibson side of the family is from Shaw MS, Rolling Fork, MS Hollandale, MS Port G ibson, MS and Cary, MS. I love the Delta I live in the Delta as well Marks, Mississippi, Quitman County.

It's nice to see people who thought the delta at that time was like that for them just knowing what was going on down there at that time. Of life. I wonder did those days events effect them.
I hated growing up in the Delta, we were to poor to know that we were poor. Blacks lived on the poor side of the track and whites lived on the rich side of the tracks. All the comments about the closeness of families is right on point. But I dreamed of leaving as soon as I could. And when I turned 18 I left and never came back for years and now even when I visit after all these year there is very little change. Poverty still exists. How can this be in the richest nation in the world.
I'll probably make somebody mad, but my late husband and I chose to live on the "black" side of town, what little town there was. The people were a lot friendlier, and that's where almost all of my students lived. I'm very old now, and they were the best neighbors we ever had. The best part of the Delta is the people.
I have never met any one in your videos, yet I know them very well and they all know me. They remind me of the people I grew up with in Richmond Virginia's JACKSON WARD. After the Civil War it was called Little Africa. The black men, many were CIVIL WAR veterans, formed an armed militia to protect themselves and their families and property. Many were proud PRINCE HALL Masons. Keep on accenting and building on the positive things about the Delta. Don't EVER GO NEGATIVE. We have more than enough negativity already. Hurry up and get a lot more content on line.

She said he would use the songs he heard the choir sing on Sunday and put them on his albums. He loved black people and black culture and got rich emulating us. I have relatives in Mississippi, and I love them to death. However, living down there I don't think I could take it. My grandmother left the South in 1920 and I am glad she did. However, I noticed that Southerns have a since of family and they will take you in if need be. That is one thing I loved about them.
I live in Clarksdale, it's located in the Mississippi Delta. It's a blues town for blues lovers. There's nothing to do at all in the Mississippi Delta, it's hot, rural and boring. The state of Mississippi is the poorest state and the delta is the poorest part of the state. Mississippi have always been at the bottom. If it wasn't for all my family that lives here and the lack of money. I'll been got the hell out of Mississippi. I'm so ready to leave and never come back.
I been to Florida a couple of times. It's a beautiful state with lots of amusement parks, attractions and recreations. Mississippi is one of the most overlooked state. If I was from another state I'll over look it too, because it's very rural, high poverty, lack of entertainment, always at the bottom. This state is awful.
Man, I'm so bored. The Mississippi Delta is boring 24/7. There's absolutely nothing to do. I be feeling drained, because I'm tired of the same old boring thing everyday. And the whole state of Mississippi has a slow pace. My life is boring. 😞

Cost of living is cheap, I mean, 3 bedrooms for 300 monthly. No uber, charter buses and congestion. Not expensive. More people own houses and cars here because of that😉

What an excellent video! Just being honest, as a person considered Black by this society, I’d rather live in Mississippi than somewhere trendy with wealthy White people like Maine (speaking from experience!). Somewhere like Cleveland or Tchula, MS I’d at least blend in and not be treated like a sideshow attraction by white capitalists. Love and solidarity to the Delta and its people 🤎.

Well, I had relatives that lived in Mississippi and as a truck driver, I've been thru just about every city and town too.
Sending love from Dixie to the Delta. Have had family in both: South will always be home, in my heart. Cherish the memories but transmute the old traditions.

It's nice to see people who thought the delta at that time was like that for them just knowing what was going on down there at that time. Of life. I wonder did those days events effect them.
Everyone were they grew up they think was the best place in the world.
I hated growing up in the Delta, we were to poor to know that we were poor. Blacks lived on the poor side of the track and whites lived on the rich side of the tracks. All the comments about the closeness of families is right on point. But I dreamed of leaving as soon as I could. And when I turned 18 I left and never came back for years and now even when I visit after all these year there is very little change. Poverty still exists. How can this be in the richest nation in the world.
I'll probably make somebody mad, but my late husband and I chose to live on the "black" side of town, what little town there was. The people were a lot friendlier, and that's where almost all of my students lived. I'm very old now, and they were the best neighbors we ever had. The best part of the Delta is the people.

I have never met any one in your videos, yet I know them very well and they all know me.
They remind me of the people I grew up with in Richmond Virginia's JACKSON WARD. After the Civil War it was called Little Africa. The black men, many were CIVIL WAR veterans, formed an armed militia to protect themselves and their families and property. Many were proud PRINCE HALL Masons.
Keep on accenting and building on the positive things about the Delta. Don't EVER GO NEGATIVE. We have more than enough negativity already.

She said he would use the songs he heard the choir sing on Sunday and put them on his albums. He loved black people and black culture and got rich emulating us. I wish he was vocal about where he got his style from.

My mom's people are from Starkville (Oktibbeha County), MS. She passed away on 09/12/23. Gonna try to make it there for a visit...it's been over 35 years...time flies😮❤❤❤❤.

Yes I grew up with wood stoves , pot belliy xtoves, out House to use washroom Bucket @ night in the house . Born in Isola Mississippi and family still lives in indianola clarksdale Vicksburg Greenville sunflower County Mississippi and they still live on the block where he died as BB King Riley b King and my great aunt what's the oldest black lady that lived in indianola Mississippi they called her Mama Joe she passed it at age 125 in Chicago and I'm a history maker here in Franklin County Tennessee smart intelligent beautiful people are all races come from Mississippi.
My grandfather is from hazlehurst, Mississippi Mr. Clement Jones.

I have relatives in Mississippi, and I love them to death. However, living down there I don't think I could take it. My grandmother left the South in 1920 and I am glad she did. However, I noticed that Southerns have a since of family and they will take you in if need be. That is one thing I loved about them.

I live in Clarksdale, it's located in the Mississippi Delta. It's a blues town for blues lovers. There's nothing to do at all in the Mississippi Delta, it's hot, rural and boring. The state of Mississippi is the poorest state and the delta is the poorest part of the state. Mississippi have always been at the bottom. If it wasn't for all my family that lives here and the lack of money. I'll been got the hell out of Mississippi. I'm so ready to leave and never come back.
I used to feel that way,about Florida.
I been to Florida a couple of times. It's a beautiful state with lots of amusement parks, attractions and recreations. Mississippi is one of the most overlooked state. If I was from another state I'll over look it too, because it's very rural, high poverty, lack of entertainment, always at the bottom. This state is awful.

Hello. Do you think that Mississippi is a poor region as compared with other states in the country? I read many of the media's reports about Mississippi, and they placed the state at the bottom of almost everything, ie health, education, and economy .
Poor financially - rich in heritage, culture and love for each other!
The cost of living is the cheapest. 350 for 3 bedroom and can buy a 4 bedroom at 5k a fixer upper. Easily survive off of 1000 a month 😒

Cost of living is cheap, I mean, 3 bedrooms for 300 monthly. No uber, charter buses and congestion. Not expensive. More people own houses and cars here because of that😉

All things considered, Mississippi is the absolute worst of all 50 states. That is saying a lot when your state is worse than, Arkansas, Alabama or South Carolina...

Just being honest, as a person considered Black by this society, I’d rather live in Mississippi than somewhere trendy with wealthy White people like Maine (speaking from experience!). Somewhere like Cleveland or Tchula, MS I’d at least blend in and not be treated like a sideshow attraction by white capitalists.
