    Recycling has gone full circle in my lifetime. As a kid in the 60’s brass and copper were always collected and sold. In the 80’s recycling became trendy which meant that the municipality charged the taxpayer to collect and sell refuse.
    It was a money maker for the waste management company’s regardless where the trash wound up.
    Today when I see companies like yours, recovering and saving valuable materials I think it’s fantastic and good for you, and everybody.

      The recycling done by the city is a completely different animal than collecting metals like scrapers do. Collecting bottles and newspapers at the curb is more expensive that it's worth, so that's why you need to pay for it. Collecting, transporting, storing before sorting, sorting, storing the sorted stuff, and transporting to the docks is super expensive. Now that China isn't accepting our recyclables for sorting and reclamation, it's becoming harder and harder to get rid of it, and a lot of municipalities are just sending everything that the magnet (steel) and Eddy current magnets (aluminum) aren't pulling out.

    • @peterparsons7141
      @peterparsons7141 Рік тому +2

      @@littlejackalo5326 very accurate. All the municipalities have individual contracts. There are some very bad contracts.
      The worst ones allow the recycler to do what they want with garbage. Sell what they can make money on and landfill the rest.
      It is getting better, and it is a changing business. People need to know , just because the municipality has a recycling program that cost them extra money that recycling is happening. More people care about what’s happening, so that’s good.

    I have been a scrapper for over 45 years. You have good ideas. As a suggestion, bring your work closer to your hydraulic presses. Your cycle time would be cut in half if your work table under your presses were 3" closer, your transformer productivity would may double. The other guy wastes a lot of time having to use a rod to extend the press to push out the steel core out of the winding. Make a table that brings that work right to the core that eliminates having to go through all that extra work every time you push out a core.

      The small ones I can crack 2 at once, but the big ones there is too much weld to break. The press is only 20 ton and I'm running a 25 ton cylinder and it sometimes struggles with 1 of the bigger size transformers. The 55 ton press I'm dropping a 100 ton cylinder in will do it with ease. lol

    Time is money. The transformer press cylinder is retracting too high, wasting time....the steel laminate barrel should be in front of you where you can just push the crushed side parts on through with one hand while sliding the copper core down to the next man. Redesign the vise to be foot operated instead of using both hands to close it, one side solid to the bench, the other slides to close the vise. Just a matter of lowering the cylinder frame on the sides and welding half the vise to the bench. I could watch you guys recycle all day long! Keep tweaking the operation and you will make tons of money!

    Next time you go to your scrap yard ask the guy if he has a small plate half inch thick of 75 to 120 XK type Steel. That's roll over protection material used in the manufacturer of cabs for like D12 and stuff. It's high tensile strength much higher than normal A36 or low carbon steel that has a tensile strength of around 36,000 lb per square inch. Obviously 75 to 120 XK would have a tinsel strength of 75 to 120,000 lb per square inch. But it's high vanadium content, gives it an impact rating of 3 to 4 times it's actual tinsel strength. This is what you want to make them Vice clamps out of for them Transformers. It might cost you a few bucks to get the plate but it'll last 10 to 20 times longer than what you got there now.

    • @ProjectShopFl
      @ProjectShopFl  Рік тому

      On the smaller ones I can crack 2 at once but with the ledge worn out one will fall off. On the medium & large ones I would need a bigger press. I'm running a 25 ton cylinder in a 20 ton press and It struggles with the large one. I have a new press I am building with a 100 ton cylinder that will solve that problem.

    So do you have plans for your presses that process the transformers?? Could I buy a copy? I have two 55gallon barrels full. I tried using a log splitter but that just makes a mess and doesn't work

    • @ProjectShopFl
      @ProjectShopFl  Рік тому +1

      I've made many videos on how it works and how its built. Unless you have a good stream of transformers I would not waste the time making all this for 2 drums. I would just cut the welds with a grinder or use a hammer I've made videos on that as well.

    • @pineshackfarms9034
      @pineshackfarms9034 Рік тому +1

      I appreciate you responding.....very cool! I've watched so many of your videos. Love your content! So thank you! I must have missed the ones on the build of the press. I'll look it up for sure. I've been doing the grinder and hammer trick and have gotten pretty fast with that. I'm always coming across scrap and still have many many more lights to process and will have another few barrels of transformers to process at some point. I just like for things to be as efficient as possible and the grinder and hammer just don't fit that bill. I'd like to try and get into buying it the way you do at some point. I especially enjoy the wire stripper you have. Very very cool.

    Can I make some sort of deal with you about buying transformers from you I need them for a business startup they don’t need to work well the top coil needs to be good that’s about all but I need the coil to be copper I’d be interested in finding out what kind of price you would charge for a nice size box full of them say a shipping tote size for starters????
