If you want to know what fun is, watch the Mummer's Parade in person on New Year's Day. My friend from college lived in South Philly back in the late 80's and I loved spending New Year's Day on Broad Street. Go Mummers!

Thanks for covering this event. You had a front row seat to watch The Legendary, Honorable Mr. Dan Baker doing the Mummer's Strut. How Awesome is that? Then he lets you wear the '22 NL ring, too. Look at you! Don't get to do that every day. Congrats. If only there was still a Krass Bros. you could be in one of their commercials to cement your own infamy in Phillydom pop culture. The Mummers will always remind me of being over my late grandparents' house some 50 years ago with the smell of porkchops and sauerkraut wafting through the house having a ball doing the strut in the living room.

I'm a Philly boy, born, bread and buttered. I did a 40+ year stint in FLA and now retiring back in Philly. FLA is way overrated and overpriced, and quality of life is close to zero now, but my wife and I enjoy the retirement checks.

Locals call it 2nd Street not 2street. Sadly the fancy brigades lost another organization marching this year purple magic is out. That drops the number to clubs 10. Also in the string bands, pennsport is not marching this year. Not sure if that is permanent. That drops the number to 14. It's becoming increasingly difficult for the clubs to raise the needed funds to put in these expensive performances. The parade has been really losing participants over the years.The museum is also financially suffering. Considering helping this great tradition out buy a raffle ticket,donate to the museum. Shame that it not televised on regular TV. There are a bunch of folks who just don't understand how streaming works. But sadly I guess because of lack of interest and advertising $$ 6abc doesn't carry it. Luckily Live casino stepped up to sponsor it. What people don't understand is there was a time that the string bands/fancy brigades got a substantial amount of money per club thru a TV contract. They all received cash prizes from the city also. It's all gone now days . Hopefully the tradition will continue on long term,but I truly have my doubts. It could eventually be all comics.
