As long as the engine is up to full temp and has some miles on it, there is nothing wrong with revving the engine. It's good for it once in a while, gets all the carbon out of the cylinder walls and keeps all the oil circulating properly throughout the motor.

ROAD NOISE: I had that problem in my 2003 Honda Civic Coupe - Solved it by getting some Low Noise Rated Sumitomo tires. The difference was pretty amazing. I now have a Gray Fit Sports with 850 miles on it. So far so good. I really enjoy driving the Fit. I purchased it after watching your videos. It's a Manual!

Dude everything is "cheaply made" for you lol its a Honda under $20,000. Dont expect a luxary vehicle for the price.. Im sure Honda's goal was achieved with this car do to the fact that it beats most in its class. Price and MPG.

Some of the materials are "low grade" but thats to be expected from a utilitarian vehicle.

Our main issue has to do with the high levels of engine and road noise and the choppy ride quality. However, we must let you know that when this car was brand new, the road noise wasn't as loud as it is right now. We suspect the cheap Dunlop tires are the culprit as they are half wore out right now. You get used to the stiff ride but if you carry passengers in the rear during the trip they will notice the bouncy ride quality. Ask the dealer to drive it on the hwy, you may be ok with it.

You were the inspiration for me to buy a Fit , I got it two months a go , same color like yours but with Automatic / Paddle shifters ... It's been amazing so far and i think the cloth seats are way more comfortable than leather specially in hot and humid weather ... You've taken a good are of your car and I admire that ! Keep posting such great videos ...

The best upgrade I ever did to my 2013 fit was upgrading the tires. I got some really decent Goodyears (Assurance) . Way quieter, better handling, and did not wear out nearly as quickly as the stock tires. Actually kind of comfortable. I love this car so much, that I'll probably replace it with the same exact generation, when that day sadly and inevitably comes. Not sold on the new ones, especially with CVT. The only feature I wish it had is Bluetooth. Not a deal-breaker though. This is the closest to "classic" Honda that you can find in a fairly recent model.

If the Fit was an Automatic then BT wouldn't be as necessary. However, with a lot of traffic in this area and a stick shift, it would be nice to have it.

I love the fact that the Honda Fit is minimal. I had a Honda Fit Sport 2010 which was a truly amazing car and fun to drive. I drove it gently and managed to drive it without too much noise complaints. Not a big fan of too much bling, to be honest. Decent and honest review. Now shopping for another Honda Fit but frankly, I don't think the newer body style resonates to my aesthetic. The 2018 Fit looks more like a CR-V which I don't care for.

  • @theredline

It's still a fine choice today, out of all the sub-compacts on the market, it has the strongest resale value, best reliability, and roomiest interior. It's no longer the only choice out there but it's still a solid choice. The main issue we mostly have is the road noise, which can be fixed with a set of good tires. We were getting trade in offers at $14,500 for it and that is just fantastic resale value.

late to the party, but I noticed that you drove right by my old house from the 1990s in Alexandria at the 21:00 mark. Great review, still pertinent to this day as I am in the market for a project car, and Fits are high on the list

  • @theredline
    @theredline  12 років тому +1

In the sub-compact class, we think the Fit and Fiesta are best in class. However, depending on your taste and budget, you may end up like the Accent or Rio as well. If you could move up a class, we'd recommend checking out the Mazda3 and Ford Focus too.

  • @theredline
    @theredline  12 років тому +4

Out of all the sub-compacts on the market, we still feel the Honda Fit is in the top 3. It's just no longer the top choice. Out of the 3 you mentioned, we would take a Fit first any day. Not all sub-compacts are large inside, the Fiesta is very cramped same with the Mazda2.

I've had my new fit sport for over a year now and honestly I'm probably gonna have it until the wheels fall off. There's been lotta complaints about cabin noise, but really if your looking for an imperfection your gonna find it. I have two kids that I take on road trips with and they can't seem to stay awake inside the fit. Once the windows are rolled up, it's like a soundproof studio inside, not extremely quiet but you can hear yourself think.

Great review. I just bought a 2013 Fit sport and I am really loving it so far. I use the freeway to get to work everyday and honestly I don't feel a lag or anything that might concern me (my car being an automatic, I thought I would have concerns with that aspect)...thankfully. I'd have to say that this car should definitely be grouped with the top picks for class/price range. Great pro/con list that should be very helpful for those considering this awesome little car.

Thank you, I was quite shocked to be reading soo much hate this time, I know there are a lot of people out there that love this car. I am still one of them it's just I wanted everyone to see what Honda needs to do with the 3rd generation Fit. It's still a great car, and to be honest I am much more picky vs the average consumer. I'm also confident that if I replaced the Dunlop tires with better ones the road noise would go down.

6 reasons why I got the fit last year instead of the SI or GTI.
    1- the price
    2-unleaded over premium gas prices
    3-turbocharge and high performance maintenance
    4-versatility, magic rear seats
    5-better MPG
    6-insurance cost is lower
    Hope it helps.

Here in Mexico we get the one made in Brazil while Honda makes it's Celaya plant. It has disc brakes on the rear wheels and it is a bit shorter because it has a smaller nose, which makes it a teensy bit lighter (15lbs or so). Mine had a 5 speed auto and I still managed to squeeze an incredible 13km/l | 30mpg city. I had it for three years and I crashed it twice, but it didn't really get as noisy as yours, and mine was the 2008 model. I switched it for a 2011 Accord coupe V6, and I still miss it.

I also bought a new 2012 Fit Sport Manual (silver) in Dec 2011 and I very much agree with the pros and cons stated. It's a great looking HB, fun to drive city car with good economy, reliability, and space efficiency. Ikea folks are also surprised at how much I'm packing in that thing. Yes, it is lacking in power, taller cruising gear, tech, cheap interior, soft brakes, nervous HW steering, and not that quiet. Btw after upgrading from the stock tires it got quiet again and with better wet weather grip. It's been a fun daily driver to fling around corners, but uncomfortable road trips and safety concerns are leading us to trading up to possibly the new Fit, but probably the Subaru Crosstrek, since it's actually a little bigger, safer, AWD, still reliable and still gets similar mpgs. The Subie probably won't be as fun in the corners and it looks ugly, but I still have my old 5th gen Prelude SH for fun...

I owned one of these for a short time (with the stick) and I agree with this review completely. The only drawbacks were that it was too buzzy and revved to high at highway cruising speed, and the seat could've gone back a tad bit more for me to be comfortable. I'm 6'0" tall and I was just a little too leggy. As a performance enthusiast, I can't believe what Ford is doing with the Fiesta ST! 197hp in this class is amazing!!

Pretty great review. Touched on a lot of points that most people care about when selecting a vehicle.
I'm looking at hondas again after trading in my '08 Si for a van.
just a point about economy. The si was of course a stick and I averaged over a four year period 29mpg. The car was rated 21/29 so I don't know if Honda under rates them or if you actually know how to drive a stick you can get great mileage.
    again great review.

You're spot on about the clutch....The clutch on this and i think the 8th gen civic too has a Clutch delay valve in the master cylinder, designed for "smoother" engagement, but right, it makes it super vague feeling! A 01-05 base civic clutch master cylinder is a direct swap with just bending a line a little. Did it on my 12 Fit sport, much better!!!

Thanks. Some good tips. Regarding lack of tech. You may want to do some research on pulling out the entertainment system and replacing it. I did the research for a CRV and found I could add all the tech I want, blue tooth, nav system, android and apple car play mirroring, rearview camera, blind spot cameras, dash camera, etc, etc, etc. The unit I found replaced double DIN systems. If that system is single DIN you may not get all the functionality you want, but a lot more than you have. Cheap cars of all types are not loaded with functionality.

$12 bluetooth AUX adapter solves one problem. Funny you mentioned the Focus ST, I considered trading my '13 Mustang GT on one but changed my mind, no dead pedal in the Focus is annoying. RV-like turning radius, and torque steer. Fiesta ST is much more fun IMO and solves aforementioned problems. Neither has anywhere near the practicality, reliability, or space of the fit. Glad you went with 5MT Sport not the auto! I love my '13 Sport 5MT and drive it way more than my Mustang.

Hey Sofyan, Of all the small "cheap speed" cars that you have driven lately which one would you say is the closed to the original VW GTI? The new GTI is much heavier and expensive. The Fit looks that it might be in the same formula, especially if they had an SI or Turbo version of it, or maybe a 1.8 DOHV engine. What do you think. Your reviews are excellent. Very insightful and complete, but never too boring.

    • @theredline

After watching the video again, he may love the vtec range a little too much which would certainly drop the mpgs. Jumping from 80 to 100hp may give you the "fun little go cart feel" but those longer valve movements mean more fuel consumption. I'm a dad going back and forth to work. I have no illusions that I'm going to be the first on stopped at the next red light.

I drove this car and an FR-S withing days of each other, and honestly the Fit was way more fun to drive.

+Tofu If you've ever driven an older mustang V8 from the late 90's you know that they are way too much engine for the chassis, and that makes them pretty fun even though they handle poorly. The FRS is the opposite; it is way to much chassis for the engine. It would be like having a mountain bike with titanium frame and a trick suspension... with training wheels on the side of it. The body/suspension drives like it was made for a car with 2x the horsepower and 3x the torque.
The Fit's steering is very direct, so much so that it reminded me of a 4 wheel steering Prelude I once owned. And it's manual transmission was just as smooth as the FRS with throws about the same. It was shocking to me how much fun it was to drive, even though it isn't fast. I took it onto the highway because I had read that they are "buzzy" at highway speed, which it was, but by that time I didn't care.
I also drove one of the new generation Fits (2016) and it wasn't nearly as fun as the 2009 I tested which really is a shame. I was considering a new F150 for 4 times as much, but now I think I will look for a 2012-2013 Fit Sport with a manual for a fraction of the price.

One of my family members have the exact same car.
From my observation, the standard synthetic fabric actually stays looking newer than the leather option you have after heavy use.

It sound as if I am being harsh but when you really own a car for a year, it gives you a chance to really get to know it. I never said I didn't like the car, I simply stated this is what I believe Honda needs to fix with the next generation. You know my style is honest and blunt. I will not sugar coat this review just to please everyone. I'm sorry if you felt I was too harsh but I am not changing my opinion on it. I was just being honest but I also acknowledged the fact that I am very picky.

That would depend on the vehicle, you expect to hear the engine and exhaust in a sports car, that is part of the appeal, in a regular passenger car, no matter how inexpensive, you expect a quieter level so you can talk or listen to your music, it makes for a more pleasant environment, my sister's Journey and ho-hum kind of vehicle is very quiet indeed and we can even talk to the passengers in the 3rd row w/o raising our voices.

If I owned one, I don't know how long the "I really like this" feeling would last. I mean the fit seems great on the showroom floor, and it seems like a great everyday driver. I can't imagine myself driving this EVERY day though. Too small I prefer something big when I'm doing faster driving, and prefer something smaller when I go to the gas station lol

have you not tried putting sound deadening materials on your fitty to lessen the noise when driving?
    plus better tires, of course.

2009 EU fit (jazz) fixes that rear seat belt buckle thing. They have bungee cord-like loops that prevent them from falling through.
Also the 2009 EU fit (mid spec not max) gets climate control, heated seats, folding electric mirrors with heating, disks in all four corners, less interior chrome, no cruise control, manual rear windows, smaller 1.3L engine and a different car computer screen (dot matrix).

When you say it's no longer the only choice, what other cars do you mean. Saw your review comparing the fiesta with fit. What other cars would you suggest I place in my consideration list?

I know what you mean about the utility of the vehicle. I know that, in comparison to a LOT of other vehicles, it is a cheap car . . . but every time I see one, I want one. Especially one in blue. Thanks for the review!

Not necessarily, despite how loud my Fit is on the highway, I have been in noisier cars that were used and people still bought it. The average consumer won't notice it or their noise level tolerance is much higher than yours or mine. Everyone is different, some people may also enjoy the noise, or would have loud music playing to drone it out. Did you know that the first generation Fit was much louder than mine and it still sold quite well.
