      Turning 30 in a month; is there a higher or lower success rate for older candidates in Rescue Swimmer School? Almost joined 6 years ago, and I hear the calling again. Anyone have personal experience or know of people in late 20's who made it through?

    • @maverickmo8976
      @maverickmo8976 4 роки тому +1

      @@joejuliano2898 I know for Pararescue from talking with some myself that they would rather take someone 29 or 30 years old than someone fresh out of school because the older person knowd themselves better, has more life experience and is generally more mature. Plus, many triathletes peak around 35 so its a perfect time to join. 27 is the average age for those who graduate Pararescue and you can say that it is equally difficult as far as the swimming portion if not harder from what I know. Both of them you have to be extremely comfortable in the water, you need to train like a free diver, getting use to being able to handle higher levels of C02 in your body and lower levels of 02. Its part physical and a lot mental. DO NOT TRAIN BREATH HOLDING IN WATER ALONE. Train outside of the pool somewhere safe, lying down where you wont fall if you pass out. The better you get at bteath holding outside of the water the better you will be in the water. When you get in the water and your face touches the water your mammalian diver response activates and allows for you tol hold you breath longer underwater than you could outside of water, this is why you train outside of water and because it is safer. The more use to high levels of C02 in your body, the longer you can go without that diaphragm spasms and burning in your lungs, when you get that burning feeling its not because you lack 02 neccessarily, its a response triggered by a build up of C02. But the more use to you get to high levels of C02 the closer you will get to fainting for lacking of oxygen without knowing you are running out. Thats why its important to train C02 tabpes and 02 tables.keep in touch brother. I also want to do it so, if you want to help eachother let me know. I am also close to your age

    I'm not a pro at swimming, but I have no problem in the water and I like to freestyle swim. Would this be a problem? Also, what ASVAB score do you need to become a Rescue Swimmer?

    • @poprite
      @poprite 9 років тому

      You need to score a 65 on the AFQT part of the ASVAB which consists of Arithmetic Reasoning, World Knowledge, Paragraph comprehension, and mathematics knowledge. If you did not reach that score then they will also look at your VE+MC+AS=162 and that contains the Auto and shop information, Mechanical comprehension, and the Verbal ability (world knowledge and paragraph comprehension) part of the ASVAB.

Marines and Army aren't anywhere similar to the Navy and Coast Guard. Each branch has its jobs, and each branch deserves endless thanks... regardless of what you or others think. Its the biggest misconception that Marines and Army are the only badasses (not saying you mean that, but it appears thats what you imply, but hey i could be wrong.) Without the navy, coast guard, air force, marines, and army, we would be fucked... This is a perfect Scenario on how heroes go unheard man lol.

    in a male dominated world it will be difficult to accept that women are just as good, and can qualify as anyone else for those spaces. so the answer is extremely simple. put a group of the best selected women in training by themselves, never lowering the required standards, this will ensure that these women compete with themselves, and become the best without the additional strain of male dominance.
    then after qualifying throw those women in a group of recently qualified men and have a top shutter competition, and add a great prize to it, something significant, and get companies involved to sponsor that prize.
    this is the only true method of truly understanding who is who, and if men and women can stand side by side in this space.
    having done that then combining training in the future will become extremely easy if proper attention is payed to the requirements of women to men , in this environment, to me it is that simple.
    I have worked with women in my past environment where they have the ability to stand, and stand firmly at men's side in every environment, so make it happen, and the possibility of making money doing this becomes extremely easy if understood, and again without lowering standards, so give them their space, and then combine spaces and test, there is no loss to anyone, no loss at all.
    the cost of starting with twenty-five plus, and ending with five or less to me does not make sense, and there will be failures, this is not the only method to test for dedication to job, there are many other modern methods, many.

      I still believe girls aren't biologically as strong, but hey there's still some special few out there who can effectively contend against guys. For true equality to exist, we shouldn't lower any sort of training standard
