Beautiful!! And let's not miss the opportunity to applaud the artistry of Timskidoo! Also known in many circles as Tim Philharmonic :) Best flutist's accompanist EVER!

Let's not even focus on how great this is. She's absolutely talented and incredible. What's most incredible though is how she messes up, then picks herself up and just shakes it off. THAT is true musicianship! This woman is perfection!

When did she mess up ?

@@Smood47 Well, this response is late, but since you asked:
12:38 - Right at the "recap", especially if you compare it to the opening at 9:50 - that's the way it's supposed to go. Then again at 14:16 - that's supposed to be a D# but she plays D-natural. If you look closely, she squints her eyes in bewilderment, like "what the heck was that silly mistake?" And that's just her. There's a handful of wrong notes from the pianist as well. In fairness, the piece is deceptively difficult. In the end, Tyler's point is that she's a true professional. They both are. I still love their performance.

@@tfpp1 This is really interesting! I don't know the work and have not played it, but see what you mean by the second or so of "ad lib" at 12.38 and the D natural squint! But it is a testament to her musicianship that I had previously listened to this several times and it was so well handled that it entirely passed me by. Bravo Amy Porter!

@@stephenmitchell367 Absolutely! I still return to this performance for my own enjoyment, so I hope people don't misunderstand my comment.

Amy will make a very great JAZZICIAN; don't you think?
I think that most classical performers can make the greatest Jazzicians with minor adjustments to phrasing, rhythm and feel/ mood.
The technical ideas can come from their classical knowledge and training.
In this regard, Hubert Laws, Eddie Daniels, James Newton, Kent Jordan, Gerald Beckett ... come to mind.

Nobody mentiones piano player, Mr Tim Carey, who played very well this piano part, which is very difficult in this tempo for piano. He was a bit nervous in interpretation, but with a reason...

Nice playing, Amy. And your pianist is excellent. I'm always looking for players whose work I enjoy and I'd love for you to play my music. Please take a listen to Vayu, This Invisible World, Blessing, and Aria, all on UA-cam. Best wishes in your performing career! CW

Such a wonderful performance. It's interesting to know that this beautiful sonatina was composed just one year after Paul Hindemith's modernistic flute sonata, which apparently the Nazis didn't like at all. There is a world apart.
P.S.: I am not too happy with the Hindemith sonata, either. I wonder if this makes me a Nazi? ;-)
