How is the ground clearance on the 2024 WRX? It's 5.4 inches, right? Is that really enough? My 2019 Mazda 3 sedan (for example - 6.1 inches) used to scrape while entering and exiting simple driveways, and that was always a huge concern for me. Had to be ultra careful.

I miss my 2015 WRX but I gave it up around 80-90k miles because the CVT started to buck and I even had Subaru replace the transmission under warranty and when I got it back it was not any better. It got to the point when I would merge into traffic on the highway or interstate the car would rev after accelerating and it would not go anywhere and I felt like I had zero control over the car. Im in Australia and I bought the top of the line wagon. I was expecting to hate it due to it being a CVT but after driving it, its nothing like any CVT I've ever driven. My car would not be as confident inspiring… at half those speeds! I’m not so sure the filming will translate that (speed & control) to average city folk. Clearly Subaru knows what they are doing. Thanks for another excellently edited/filmed video. Cheers!
I still like the old 2000s Impreza STI better then the sedans. IMO, when I hear WRX, I picture the old school Impreza body style with the huge spoilers.
The looks kinda grew on me! I hope to see it on some racing games soon. I'd prolly paint the fenders body color though. I also do kinda wish Subaru would've taken this opportunity to test out the ZF 10-speed automatic.
I think subaru may perfer to test things on Outback. 10-AT would be great if they are really willing to put that in. Current CVT just suck in Canadian winter before you can fully warm it which could be impossible in short trip.
Great review as always! I’m at the age where nostalgia plays into my life and am always hoping for an Impreza that grabs me the way the 22b did. Still chasing the dragon.
And you will be until you die. The 22b was a one-off homologation special. For a cool half a million you could buy an updated prodrive version of one though lol
Sure would like to see some comparison reviews with the base trim. Even a pic of the base interior would have been nice. Apparently it’s the best way to buy the WRX for value vs tech bloat.
Very true. I bought the base manual due to smaller wheels and thicker tires. Makes for a more comfortable ride but still grippy-fun. I just didn't want all that tech. as i have that in my SUV. Still comfortable on a long drive, and I get a laugh at those burble-booms from the muffler.
Yes, the VW GTI is a smaller and more compact vehicle (along with the Golf R). However, that's an advantage over the 2022 WRX. Honestly, if I wanted the space typically available in a Mid-size car, I'd _buy_ a Mid-size. Nearly every car brand has absolutely decimated the Compact Car Class starting a handful of years ago. This version of the WRX is bigger than previous models. Not everyone wants that. The so-called compact Jetta GLI is the very same size as the mid-size Passat from just a few years back. Thankfully the GTI and Golf R are still *actual* compacts. Rather surprised that the Mazda 3 Turbo sedan or hatchback wasn't included as an alternative. That one in both styles is also AWD. A bit more upscale than the WRX. But the price difference isn't huge.
Thanks for sharing Andrea and Zack. Subie needs to get rid of the fake vents on the rear bemper and the budget black exterior trim... make it body colour and it would look so much better.
CVT shifting is not only pointless IMO, but it reduces the performance of the vehicle by faking gear shifts when it has no gears. It would be faster if it just held the RPMs it needs, but some people really want to hear and feel shifts. *shrugs*
I agree. But I guess that most WRX buyers, given they buy ~80% in manual transmission, prefer a more traditional gear change and would opt for it instead of getting the best efficiency from the CVT. I’d bet that the lacklustre fuel consumption is mainly due to nerfing the CVT rather than all the other changes such as the wider profile.
@@markhamer5112 They should at least give the user an option in a menu, with a memory to always start the vehicle in the last setting it was in. So for people who want fake shifts can get it, but those that know better can disable that.
I like it but agree the back looks like an old civic. I would have liked to see a all digital instrument cluster. Am i the only one who thinks what’s the point on onboard navigation these days when a vehicle has Google and Apple Maps? Great video as always guys
In Australia, they have the wagon (rebadges levorg) but the performance is the same. pretty good and no cladding. Funny enough, the wagon needs the cladding!
Perhaps some day Motormouth can explain the hatred auto-journalists have for CVT's, even ones that go the extra distance in refinement like Subaru's does?
I actually don't mind CVT's we have a Honda Civic and it has a very good CVT. I can only speak for ourselves as auto-journalists, we are not against them but I constantly get feedback from viewers and followers on Instagram that would never buy one. If a vehicle has a CVT, the won't even look at it - Andrea
I ordered a new 2022 WRX Premium. I will be bringing paint to the dealership on delivery day so I can paint the plastic cladding before leaving for home. Would hate to be seen driving it otherwise. I have had 2 previous WRX's, a 2003 and a 2011. Loved them both. The 2003 was ugly but in a good way. This one with the plastic takes ugly to the butt level. Buyers, put aside $2000 for a pro paint job on the fender flares and portions of the back bumper. Remember, all that crap has to be removed, sanded and replaced and the paint alone will be $500.
I love the new styling! The black cladding is a nod to it’s WRC heritage. These were raced!! Off road! But the rear tailights leave room for improvement; the Imprezas look better.
Guys I been wanting to build my own wrx but we’re I live we don’t have a Subaru dealership. Does anyone know if I would be able to order a wrx from a different dealership?? Like Toyota or would I have to find a Subaru dealership
Subaru has never been about styling. The only Subaru that looks pretty was the underrated SVX coupe. I have lost interest in WRX since they dropped the wagon/hatchback body style. But I have no issue with CVT, since I have owned cars equipped with them. Even if I buy this kind of sports compact, MT is the way to go. GR Corolla is what WRX wagon used to be. On the other hand, one can basically written off Golf R from shopping list after played with VW's new poorly executed UI in full glory.

My car would not be as confident inspiring… at half those speeds! I’m not so sure the filming will translate that (speed & control) to average city folk. Clearly Subaru knows what they are doing. Thanks for another excellently edited/filmed video. Cheers!
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed the review. We were going really fast on that gravel road, it just ate up those bumps, very impressive.
Impressive indeed!
Throw it sideways, then i'd be impressed
What Toyota will this be in their range, possibly the Corolla Cross ST, if there will be one?
I still like the old 2000s Impreza STI better then the sedans. IMO, when I hear WRX, I picture the old school Impreza body style with the huge spoilers.
I have Recaros , i guess Canada dont get them for the top trim
Needs a hatchback version.
For what?
More noise?
Less security?
To look like everything else?
AWD, manual, sporty sedan with 270+ hp.
Unique in todays market at its price level.
You guys left out the gas mileage u got.
Also what is the 0 to 60 time for cvt?
As a current WRX owner I don't know if there is enough new upgrades in the new model to make it worth it to get this new one
There isn't. I drove a 22 wrx and didn't like it as much as my 17 wrx and hated it when compared to my 21 sti
Why would subaru make a push button start optional on their headline sports sedan?
is there a head gasket problem with 2022 wrx
Very informative video! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
@@andreaspencer9813 You are welcome. Andrea.
What about the Kia Forte GT as a comparison?
The looks kinda grew on me! I hope to see it on some racing games soon. I'd prolly paint the fenders body color though. I also do kinda wish Subaru would've taken this opportunity to test out the ZF 10-speed automatic.
I think subaru may perfer to test things on Outback. 10-AT would be great if they are really willing to put that in. Current CVT just suck in Canadian winter before you can fully warm it which could be impossible in short trip.
That ZF transmission won’t fit onto a Boxer engine
Kinda torn between this or civic si.
Love everything about it. If this world wasn't so messed up I would by one tomorrow. Great job as usual thanks.
I saw it in photos and hated it. in person its a different beauty.
Thank you for the review!
Mazda 6 is discontinued in Canada, not sure about USA.
@@gs98999
Sorry, my mistake. Meant to say the Mazda 3, not 6. Although the 6 is still available in America. Have edited my original post.
What's up with the STOP sign turned 90 degrees clockwise at 6 min 30 sec?
It's on a swing arm so they pull it down when they want people to not enter the bridge
Could you please do a video on impreza 4dr n 5dr.. literally nothing out there
Why they not shifting gears ⚙️?
Oh never mind
Thanks for sharing Andrea and Zack. Subie needs to get rid of the fake vents on the rear bemper and the budget black exterior trim... make it body colour and it would look so much better.
Looks better from the side thn the front or back (civic) 🤦
In your future videos, Can you please mention 0-60 and top speed. Thank you
What about testing the new Subaru electric car?
Soon
@@Motormouth... yes 👍🏾
In Chile you can get it as a hacthback (Station) cvt only
my 2022 subaru wrx gt doesnt have heated seat at the rear passenger seats. why?
USA specs are different than Canadian ones
Haha what happened to car number four in your alternatives? I'm guessing there's not too many that compete in this area though.
This is the second coming of the Legacy Spec B. That's a good thing.
Wow -- true. Honestly that is the best way to look at this vehicle. I'm not upset.
I like it but agree the back looks like an old civic. I would have liked to see a all digital instrument cluster. Am i the only one who thinks what’s the point on onboard navigation these days when a vehicle has Google and Apple Maps? Great video as always guys
Let's see if recent reliability issues surface on this model!
Does it have a spare tire ?
Yes, a temporary spare tire
I saw the window sticker on one in the US and it said “tire repair kit”. Maybe the spare is just in Canada
So my impreza sport just got T boned and I’m looking for a new car. I can finally say ima own a WRXim going for the sports tech
I am starting to come around with the looks.. At the end of the day, we'll keep our 2020 STI.. 😆👌
NICE!
I’ve seen this in person it’s just strange looking especially the Rear End it looks as if you forgot the paint the bumper
Nice review! There is a reason however that 85% choose the stick.
What is the 0 to 60 with cvt in seconds?
Well the manual does 0-60 in 5.7ish. So i would guess the cvt takes 6 seconds or more. Over 6 seconds and it isn't a sports car in my book.
Sti?
They killed the sti at the end of 21 model year. Subaru say they might bring the sti brand back in future possibly as an electric or hybrid. LOL
@@ianholmquist8492 Subaru is not going to bring it back
@@theliveingshitpost2316 that's fine by me. My 21 sti is worth 7k more after 15k miles than when i bought it brand new. I won't be selling it though
@@ianholmquist8492 good
I love the new styling! The black cladding is a nod to it’s WRC heritage. These were raced!! Off road! But the rear tailights leave room for improvement; the Imprezas look better.
CVT owners, please leave your sweet comments of your wise purchase in five year. I patiently your opinions.
No heated steering wheel is a total deal breaker for an AWD daily driver sedan in Canada.
lol
Great review and totally agree with the look, I think my Civic and Tacoma had a child. Thanks, Andrea and Zack looks like you had fun!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the review, we did have a lot of fun!
Guys I been wanting to build my own wrx but we’re I live we don’t have a Subaru dealership. Does anyone know if I would be able to order a wrx from a different dealership?? Like Toyota or would I have to find a Subaru dealership
Great video, guys! I've just started to watch your channel and love your reviews. Please do a review of the Hyundai Elantra N-Line! Let's go!
Thank you so much, really glad you you are enjoying the reviews.
BRZ looks pretty awsome
