Jim you’ve got more knowledge than a 40 acre college. Your advice has saved me from making some serious mistakes in off roading . Thanks Jim for taking the time to educate the rest of us and keep us much safer and well prepared. Cheers.
hi over many years I have stuff most things and now I get a bit shitey with the off road people flogging all the junk that cost to much and is on the most part junk, the most important thing is to weigh the 4x4 with all the gear you want to take then work out what you leave behind. have fun and take your time
Dose of the trots! Absolute PURE GOLD! Well said Jim and thanks for a great video with many wise tips. You're a breath of fresh air mate! Hi Jason thank for the kind words, I been all over Australia from the tip to the cold bit down south and your right try to keep it simple is the best way I seen so many people with all the toys have many more trouble than I ever had one of my base rules is I I cannot fix it I don't take it.

Hi Steve I'm a bit of a tight wad and don't like buying every thing if I cannot make it and fix it I don't take it, the more remote you go the bigger chance it will break and if you cannot fix it your in trouble I don't even run the big tires that so many do now if it's cost $500 or $600+ in Melbourne then it cost 2 to 3 times as much in the outback and you may have to sit a week of two before the come on the truck

gt tips jim. thanks for pointing out the cost of things - i see so many guys recommending this and that. freakn expensive. often the expensive solution is not the best. and the more people spend on expensive 4wd gear the more they have to work to pay for it and..so they have less time to get out 4wding. i have copied the url and sent it to mates. i really related to the dose of the trots in the outback reference...yes road trips, camping and gastro are not a good combination. i have a 2006 hilux and am doing the canning stock route this june with the getaway 4wd club. appreciate your common sense style and wisdom. i have subscribed. thank you.
good stuff I hope you have a great trip I would love to do it again, and don't for get don't even wash your face with water out of a well pump it through a filter, I now use a boat bilge pump to get my water more power and work's better. Have fun and I keep my ere out for your trip video's. Don't forget my trick of laying a long chain on the ground and lots of tent pegs it will pull you out in a clay pan. Just remember keep it simple with gear that you can fix in the outback.
Great tip on the Shackles! I stood by as an attachment point broke on a boat that was being snatched out of the water by a Landcruiser Tray, the 1kg Shackle on the end of the snatch strap launched over the Lancdcruier narrowly missing a 16 year old kids head by 300mm and landed way forward of the tow vehicle faster than you could blink. It would have been instant death. It was only after it happened, everyone realised how close we were to a fatal incident. With you Tube End Caps, try gluing on the inside of the cap, 80mm of spongy foam type stuff, it will protect the end caps, and more importantly, what is inside :)
